Microphone Woes

Im having some issues with my mic at the moment. I was using it over Ventrilo and games just fine, I was crystal clear. But one day I come home from work and suddenly ppl are saying Ive got a really bad static problem. When I check the setup in ventrilo it says I need to pick a codec, I have never had to do that it was always auto set. Every codec I tried was just horrible sounding. So I uninstalled Vent and downloaded the newest version, then I updated my sound card drivers. Now my mic doesnt make a sound. Vent still makes me pick a driver but no matter which i pick i cant hear myself.

I checked my sound options and Line-In was muted. But whenever I click off mute and go to try to use my mic it doesnt work. When I go back to sound options Line-In has auto-muted. But when I try to test my mic in Left4Dead I actually can hear something, but its VERY quiet.

So I dont know, on vent no one can hear my and on games like L4D Im barely audible.

Help plz ^_^

Thank you in advance.

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
