split screen system link on 360

My roommate just went out and bought a 360. This brings the house 360s up to 2, and now we are on the search for games that can do 2 to 4 players per console on system link. The only one I can think of off hand is the halo series. I just bought the 2nd one so we have one game to play on it. But I want to know if anyone has every tried others. Does Gears support this? We usually don't go on Live due to only 2 people having live accounts. Any suggestions?

If you don't mind an oXbox game, and you're into it, you can link with Phantom Dust.

Also, Crackdown has co-op system link I believe.

Seems pretty comprehensive and up to date to me.

With a LIVE account for each xboxen you should actually be able to take four people online in a good few games. Many allow the person playing split screen with you to sign in as a guest although they won't be on a persistent gamertag for achievements/trueskull and lack voice chat (even if you plug in a mic) in my experience. You can set it so that voice communication plays through the TV speakers as well as the headset in the dash preferences so you can both hear.

I think it's more the norm for games with both split screen and LIVE multiplayer to allow this than not, but I do recall running into at least one game where this wasn't a feature.

Games where it is off the top of my head include Halo 3 but only in the unranked playlists and I believe Gears - however I can't recall seeing anyone playing split screen in the second game yet (you can tell because they share the same gamertag) but I doubt the feature has been removed. I'm not really in a position to compile a list but I'm sure others will help you out.

Left 4Dead supports four player system link IIRC, and the gameplay is built around four players. Eight if you count Versus mode.
