So, I want to rebuild my entertainment center. I've got a 32 inch widescreen TV. it's a slimfit CRT so it's not as huge as other CRTs but it's no flat panel either.
I've also got a ton of DVDs that are currently in stacks on the floor and looking very unseemly. Also have a 360, a Wii, a PS2, a DVR and a couple dozen or so games.
I've seen a couple of friends use wire shelving lately and I admittedly kinda like the look. I have to admit I kinda like the utilitarian look. I've been eying this lately:
Where I can just play with the shelf heights to get the TV in there and have plenty of shelf space left over for the DVDs and the game consoles. I thought I would ask around though and see if anyone else knows of some good wire shelving units. Modularity is a big plus.
That stuff is generically called Metro shelving and it is used a lot in food service. If you live in a reasonable sized city, you should have a restaurant supply store you could go to that will have a big selection of the pieces. You can buy the shelves and poles separately to build exactly what you want. If I remember right, you can get the shelves in depths of 12", 18", 24" and 36" and in 2' to 8' lengths. There are also some accessories available, like baskets and shelf dividers, that they'll either have or could probably order for you. I used to work in a supply store that sold this stuff, but I don't really remember the pricing on it. You might end up paying a little more to go with a custom setup, but you would be able to build exactly what you want.
gah, that was half of my problem right there. Finding the right keyword to search for. Wire shelving only gave me so much. I found Nexel's website which I thought was the source of it all, but yeah, they were a little pricier for a custom setup.
I'll search on Metro shelving now and see what I can find. thanks!
but it costs more than twice the plain shelf that I linked to above in my OP.
Have you checked out the 'other products by intermetro' link at the top to see if you can piece together what you want?
Sadly, yes. 4x 74" posts alone are 80 bucks. I'm not a huge fan of the chrome color, and quite frankly, I don't think I need 6 shelves. but I don't think I can beat the value of my original link.
I certainly like the other models, but I don't like the markup. plus, I'm going to have to pay monster shipping. Whereas I can just drive down to Home Depot and pick this up.
