The game now routinely crashes when I try and fast travel to Old Orney. Anyone else getting this?
EDIT: Scratch that, routinely crashing when I go ANYWHERE.
It's either the driver I just upgraded to, the new patch or my savegame being seriously screwed up. Probably my save as I've been playing it for about an hour with the new drivers and a few days with the new patch.
EDIT 2: It was totally the NVIDIA drivers.
Anyway, the reason I went back to Old Orney is a found a BOS paladin with the experiential armor in the sewers. Unfortunately he has completely disappeared, which sucks.
Don't feel bad, I lost my save file from 70% through the game due to some fluke, and have to start over from one about 5 hours back
Which since I'm nowhere in the game again, any awesome mods I have to try before I get too far?
Did you start logged out of live, then later log in?
Or vice versa?
Non-live saves don't show up when logged into live, and vice versa.
Can fix that by copying from the regular save folder to the folder of the name of your live account in the save folder.
No, I made sure to have the Live crap working before hand because it was complaining about wanting me to specify a saving point (On a PC game?), so that's not it. It just decided to have the save stick me in front of the Vault exit with no guns, no clothes, and the Pipboy map blank

You can just use the console to spawn some Medic Power Armor if you want.
So I can into my first Deathclaw today.. I guess it was my level 18 badassery, but I 2 shot'd him with my combat shotgun and his head popped off like a cork.

Anyway I'm trying to get into the rat caves, but I can't seem to find a way in. The guy who gave me the key tells me there are rocks on top of the entrance. I have no clue how to move them. I assume I need dynamite but there's none to buy or steal around town. Walk-throughs aren't helping because I am assuming the patch or mod changes the quest.

That's very strange. It should just be an elevator that you can use.
You should probably patch the game, Fallout 2 has a ridiculous number of bugs. If you don't want to do that, just forget it, that quest isn't really important.
That's one thing about Fallout 2: Even when quests are glitch and unfinishable, it doesn't lock out anything else.
The trapper town rat caves do neither have rocks over the entrance nor are there any elevators involved.
There is a manhole inside a building, you don't need to remove anything from it to go down there, it should be easy to find since there is a corpse next to it and it's about as far as you can go.
(This is speaking from my knowledge of playing through both with unpatched and fully patched (official patches only) and it never changes.
Nothing covers the entrance to the caves in trapper town, you go round the side and there's a bunch of buildings full of rats and then a hole you can climb down.

open the console with ` and type TM to remove the hude (or set teh hud opacity to 0) also try TFC (when in 3rd person) so you can fly the camera around without your character for dramatic screenshots.

so i just did the quest, and yay for beth for keeping harolds voice actor, but is the quest bugged? i get all the opitions, either burn him with fire, kill his heart, use the stuff to make him grow or use the stuff to make him not grow.. but all i could do was just kill his heart? i tried to make him grow but nothing happend and it wouldnt let me retry, and everyone acted like i was still doing the quest, same thing with making him stop growing.. in the end i .. i.. i had to kill harold
Maybe it's the one by that 'farm'? I don't think that's a really in-depth quest, but it usually involves explosives and human excrement flying everywhere when the outhouse explodes.

did you talk to the two druids before going underground? The two will tell you about what would happen if you let the tree grow or shrink and will each give you an item. If you have them you should get all the options when you reach his heart

yes, i have both items, you cant not talk to them, the game sticked you to the spot when you try to go to the caves and you have to listen to them, i checked and i have both items in my inventory.. yet .. nothing.
In the first hour of the game, I have killed Mr.burke and pretty much destroyed Megaton with my sledgehammer. It was very accidental but they all got mad at me and then I had to put them down.
Anyway, now I have combat armor and a machinegun and I don't know where to go at all because everyone is dead and I haven't done a single quest.
Should I just head out into the wastes randomly or should I go back to a previous save because I missed something awesome in Megaton?
Megaton has a bunch of quests so you're definitely missing out, but it's not really that big of a deal when you think about how many quests are out there.
It's really up to you.
Next time, you can just run. The townsfolk will forget about the bad stuff you did after a while.

Yeah, it's because of the launcher. You can go into your steam folder, and rename your falloutlauncher.exe to falloutlancher.exeb (as a backup) and then rename Fallout 3.exe to Falloutlauncher.exe and it'll register normally. You'll have to revert all this if you want to change graphics settings and maybe also mod settings, so if you want to do it is up to you.

Yeah, somebody posted that. I didn't know it was a mod (though I suspected) so I kept hoping to see one in the sanctuary.
If I were to just start a new game and just follow the main storyline quest, how much exp. can I expect to earn?

I beat the game at level 12 or so, main story only. (though I did stop in the hotel to do the rangers quest, as it was en route)
The sidequests are more fun than the Main Quest most of the time anyway, and it's always fun to come across a new dungeon and storm it
I agree 100%. I'm just curious. I'm thinking about pausing my main good playthrough long enough to try a straight main story run.
