NPCs can also take anything they need out of containers that don't belong to the player. So if he's stashing a Fat Man in a desk at Springvale, then comes through and shoots the pistol out of the raiders hand...Well, you can see where this is going.

Has the PS3 version of the patch been taken offline? I’m not getting the option to upgrade when I start the game.
Is there a new patch for the PS3 version of this game?
I just got to the part where:
you follow the giant robot around while it lays waste to any who oppose it...
when all of a sudden the game freezes. Just stops. Dead. As I'm sitting there staring at a static screen, I begin to think I have heard about this particular issue. I do some Googling and discover, much to my chagrin, that this is, in fact, a known issue. The issue is that at some point, at almost the absolute end of the game, it freezes randomly, and the only way to work around this issue is to power down and start the mission over again. This scenario happened twice. The second time I got a little farther, but it still managed to freeze.
[rant]
DID ANYONE AT BETHESDA SOFTWARE BOTHER TO QA THEIR SOFTWARE?! You honestly can't tell me that they couldn't have paid a fucking intern $10.00/hour to sit and play through the entire game on the PS3. If they have any problems (e.g. THE FUCKING GAME FREEZING AT THE VERY END!) they enter an issue for it and FIX IT BEFORE IT GOES TO PRODUCTION!
I'm at work now, but when I get home, I'm going to find a number for Bethesda's customer support and scream until I find someone who will cut me a check for spending $60 on this piece of shit.
And I don't want to hear, "Why don't you just buy it on XBox360 or PC?" You know why? Because I don't have a 360 and don't want one and personally don't care for PC gaming, not to mention the somewhat lofty system requirements for the PC. I shouldn't have to suffer through lack of DLC, patches, buggy software, etc. just because I chose one console over another.
[/rant]
So...does anyone know if there's going to be a patch to fix this problem?
I can;t blame you for this because you obviously haven't had chance to finish the game but when you eventually do, you'll see, they didn't bother finishing the game anyway so I doubt QA was high on their priority list.
The same thing happened to me on the PS3 version. I just used the autosave and it managed to play fine after that.

Why you gotta be such a downer man? It's like you're around every corner waiting for someone to mention the ending so you can jump out and proclaim how bad it is! Yes! It's bad! Stop!
Nope. It needs to be called out as much as possible to as many people as possible so Bethesda eventually get the word that its not good to fuck off your audience with lazy endings/excuses just to sell add-ons that undo the lazy endings.

So I was watching Zero Punctuation today and I thought that maybe, just maybe reading and seeing negative comments about a game is well, annoying and old. Especially when a lot of the people that are spouting these opinions are in no position to offer any solutions, and just want to whine.
Yes, the ending to Fallout 3 sucked. It's already been established, and iirc was even acknowledged by Bethseda, and is slated to be corrected ffs. It's a game, it's not your life, and if spending 60 - 80 dollars on a game is such a crippling purchase for you that you must cry so much (as much as possible? Really?) if it doesn't walk on water maybe you shouldn't bother to buy games at all, really.

Ok, I shouldn't have to say it again, but they're not fixing the ending for everyone. They're actually isolating a section of the market from the fixing. Purposefully.
And it was bought based on bullshit spouted about a good ending. Literally referenced the ending and all its brilliant permutations.

If you (DW) mean that you bought the game because of stuff about the ending, then may I respectfully suggest that you're looking at this particular game in the wrong way.
The joy of it for me is the sheer possibilities presented by wandering around. I've been playing it for almost 20 hours and I'm in no hurry to finish it. I'm sure I might be disappointed when I finally get around to the ending, but I don't think I'll feel cheated. I don't think there's any way to avoid getting your money's worth out of this thing.
If you're trying to speed run it to get to the end then you're doing it wrong.

Just finished a 'no death' complete run through of Fallout and am starting one for Fallout 2 and eventually 3. I won't lie, I whored my way through a section or two of the 'Cathedral' using the 'open end combat' mode because TWICE my game ended due to a cheap ass critical from a mutant with a laser gun which killed me in ONE shot through Psycho and Hardened Power Armor. After that I said, 'Fuck this epic confrontation with the Master, I'm just going to arm his bomb and run away laughing'.
And so I did.
The military base though, was a free for all of glorious destruction as my Brotherhood allies and myself cut a swath through the mutant, the alien, and the heretic.
For Fallout 2, I only plan on fighting the Enclave in the underground Navarro section. One, I love the Enclave Drill Sergeant too much to ever kill him. He's the Liberty Prime of Fallout 2...
And Two, without the Sniper perk Enclave troopers are even cheaper with random, instant death critical than Super Mutants. Don't even get me started on Horrigan. He is getting the full wrath of Sgt Granite, a dozen turrets, and a Gauss rifle to the eyes.

Once again, I find myself wanting to throw myself into traffic rather than do this, but I agree with Darkwarrior on a couple of points.
This thing about Bethesda fixing the ending with DLC you have to buy? It's not a great idea, it's complete and factual bullshit. A great idea would've been having a decent ending in the first place. I enjoy the game plenty without having a good way to end the main quest, but fixing the ending after release by charging people more money for an expansion pack with a better ending? If you want a solution, then Bethesda should stop pulling this nickel-and-dime trash. This is basically the horse armor fiasco all over again except Bethesda has rigged the game so that paying for the extra content is better than putting up with the current ending. If people aren't pissed off at Bethesda for pulling this shit, then they're fanboys. This is the exact kind of crap the market does not need if we all want to avoid games that are little more than an ongoing series of pay-to-play content packs.
And the part where Bethesda is flat-out screwing over the PS3 owners? How the hell is that ever justifiable? It's not Microsoft's fault for offering the deal, it's Bethesda's fault for not having the scruples to turn it down. GTAIV is at least a complete game. When the exclusive content for that gets going, PS3 owners will still have a full game with a real ending. Fallout 3 will basically be stuck in shitty ending mode forever when it comes to the PS3. Exclusive content is one thing, but screwing over an entire segment of the market because they picked the "wrong" system is idiotic.
People should be bitching about this stuff non-stop. Just the fact that Bethesda is using a DLC pack you have to buy in order to fix the ending guarantees I will not be buying any of their extra content.

You're not paying for a fixed ending. You're paying for the expansion pack which will probably have a ton of cool new content. Besides, knowing Bethesda the ending to the expansion pack will likely be just as poorly done as the one we have now. And I see your point about screwing over PS3 owners, but as I play it on PC I can only sit back and laugh at your misfortune.
I won't bother to bitch about it because it won't do any good.
But I'm not buying it either, so if they use that to measure how successful their tactics are then it may actually accomplish something. Not that I suspect it will, because I imagine thousands of people will gobble up the DLC anyways and give Bethesda a nice wad of cash to go home with.
Which is why they do it. Despite our protests, it works. We're just the vocal minority and are easy to ignore.

I'm still pissed over the PS3 thing, so while I will 'eventually' get all the extra stuff one way or another, I'm waiting a good six months or so to make absolutely sure they have no plans for PS3 stuff. You never know, they may change like what happened to Bioshock and Final Fantasy XIII's exclusivity.
My apartment at Tenpenny tower has a couple corpses in it.. they used to be guards, they were shooting at me for some reason or another and chased me into the room. So I went all Texas justice on them and shot them for trespassing.
I stuffed each body and the associated limbs onto the bookshelves and they've been there ever since.
I killed the stupid robot too because his quips got on my nerves. He's too heavy to move so his corpse lingers in the corner where he died.
You...You're a monster! Robot butlers are heaven sends! Water AND jokes!
But now I can sleep in absolute silence, so it's an even trade.
Hang on...how did you manage to get stuff into those bookselves?

So, I recently added the "more spawns mod"; the game just went from pretty good to holy crap, this is excellent! I just walked into Springvale High; Instead of 3 to 4 bored raiders hanging out in a large empty school, I found a goddamn army with enough firepower to occupy a small city. I felt like I was lucky just to get out of there alive.
Makes you wonder why more game designers don't automatically add in a feature which allows you to increase the spawn rate to your liking. Seems like a feature a lot of the 360 and PS3 people would love.
Also, while we're bitching, maybe next time could we please set each save under the character name ( like in Mass Effect ) instead of dumping everything into the same shitty list? I would have thought enough people had already complained about that crap with Oblivion.

Oh come on. Since when do we expect patches for shitty endings?

Huge performance issues. The game is not efficient and breaks down rapidly when under stress on less than premium hardware.

I play with increased increased spawns and every encounter with a large group requires at least 30 attempts. I quick save and then keep trying many different ways to plow through the fuckers with various guns, explosives, tricks and fancy footwork. Fucking awesome shit.

Yes, the ending to F3 sucked and was completely unfinished, but at some point you have to move the fuck on and enjoy what's available.

You are paying for a patch that camouflages itself as a expansion pack.
Yes, ten more levels, more perks, new enemies, new equipment, and new quests is clearly just a "patch."
Yes, the ending to F3 sucked and was completely unfinished, but at some point you have to move the fuck on and enjoy what's available.
It still sucks that we have to pay for the DLC.
Yeah, it sucks that we had to pay for the game in the first place. It also sucks that I had to pay for my XBOX 360. For that matter, why do I have to pay for heat, electricity and food? Why can't everything just be free? Damn you Bethesda!
So instead of providing a decent counter point, you go off and blow it up into something massive, then try to make me look like the stupid one.
Look, its not a case of "Oh the game was perfect (Which it wasnt) but the ending sucked but move on, you just shouldn't have bought it". The fucking developers out right said that the ending was incredibly detailed with massive amounts of changes based just on your actions in game and that alone is plain false advertising and something that people will partly base their purchase on, the ability to impact the game.
Not everyone gets off on increasing spawns and mediocre interaction. It was exactly the same with Bioshock, if you don't see it as the best thing ever you're just a hater who should just ignore its faults and love it regardless for whatever little it does well. Fuck if you have an opinion right?
I normally get through games really really fast, but so far I still haven't finished it and I have been playing for 30+ hours. Even if the ending is going to be shit, who the hell cares. Its the journey that counts, maaan.

until you get to where you feel you are about halfway through the game, then all of a sudden you see credits rolling and be all like " what the shit is this shit mang?! shit! "

Sometimes I like to present my opinions in a negative way as often as I can to a bunch of people who have positive ones or indifference and then get shocked when they don't agree with me?
The claim that there were multiple endings is true. There were as a result of the permutations. Does it make it less cheap? Nope, but it's not the end of the world dude.

Honestly, dude, I think you run into as much trouble because you phrase your opinion with such raw vitriol as anything else.

The same thing happened to me on the PS3 version. I just used the autosave and it managed to play fine after that.
Nope. It needs to be called out as much as possible to as many people as possible so Bethesda eventually get the word that its not good to fuck off your audience with lazy endings/excuses just to sell add-ons that undo the lazy endings.
Twitch (I stream most days of the week)
Twitter (mean leftist discourse)
Except for people with PS3s.
Or who don't want to buy add-ons for games they've already paid for. (Unless they're free in which case D'oh!)
Now, blow me ;P

The joy of it for me is the sheer possibilities presented by wandering around. I've been playing it for almost 20 hours and I'm in no hurry to finish it. I'm sure I might be disappointed when I finally get around to the ending, but I don't think I'll feel cheated. I don't think there's any way to avoid getting your money's worth out of this thing.
If you're trying to speed run it to get to the end then you're doing it wrong.
He may be a major tool and a great many other things, but this is a good idea for a mod. A remix of that Oblivion quest.

Gay happy or the good kind of gay?

Hang on...how did you manage to get stuff into those bookselves?
You are paying for a patch that camouflages itself as a expansion pack.
Situation excellent. I am attacking.
- General Ferdinand Foch
Huge performance issues. The game is not efficient and breaks down rapidly when under stress on less than premium hardware.
I play with increased increased spawns and every encounter with a large group requires at least 30 attempts. I quick save and then keep trying many different ways to plow through the fuckers with various guns, explosives, tricks and fancy footwork. Fucking awesome shit.
Fat Man.
Or better yet.

Developers say this kind of shit all the time.
Theres idealistic design decisions and outright lying. This was the latter.
Hahahahahahaha.
