Judge Dredd returns to the screen once again.
“Judge Dredd” is once again headed for the big screen, giving one of the most popular British exports to the world of comic book characters a second try at live-action movie success. News of a new “Judge Dredd” film being green-lit was announced this weekend on the message boards for 2000 AD, the British science-fiction anthology series that has been the character’s home since 1977.

“We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen,” wrote Rebellion/2000 AD CEO and Creative Director Jason Kingsley.

DNA Films (”28 Weeks Later” and “Sunshine”) is expected to kick off production of the new “Judge Dredd” in 2009. The character previously appeared in theaters in a 1995 film starring Sylvester Stallone that was ripped apart by comics fan and non-fan audiences on both sides of the pond.

My questions:
Will it involve this guy once more?
assante.jpg
because if so you've sold me a ticket.

Will it feature such intense and overwhelming acting?
What do you think SE++?

the comprehensiveness of some articles on fictional characters and stuff is pretty mind-blowing sometimes when you compare it to like, articles on physics or medicine

I loved the War robot thing.

I'm also so sad and pissed that nothing is coming out of Hollywood that isn't a remake or based on an already succesful comic book/book.

Very few exceptions right now. How the fuck are we supposed to get our original ideas mad now? HUH

judge dredd just seems like a hard property to make a film about

you can't possibly take it seriously

it needs a lot of dark humor to work

so, punisher war zone i guess is a good example?

Judge dredd 2 might be alright but it wasn't that good in the beginning. Why do they think its going to get any better?

There are days I wish hollywood would just get ripped to shreds by some sort of earthquake and the world would be a better place.

i wish people would stop saying "hollywood" like it's some kind of single machine entity churning out terrible movies and raping your childhoods

when a good movie gets produced by the major studios, nobody praises "hollywood"

but when something terrible gets churned out, it's the fault of "hollywood"

That's not the point. Just because the entire area that "makes movies" is responsible for both good AND bad movies doesn't mean that there's no problem with the problem of late, which is making sequels and remakes instead of creatign new ideas.

The problem is the overall creativity has gone down lately and yet Hollywood (and the RIAA) bitches they are losing money to piracy and blah blah other arguments here.

I love the shit out of those movies. All three of them.

My favorite part is that there are running gags they use which aren't necessarily obvious unless you watch all three movies back to back. For instance, Marty yells "What the hell is that!??!?" quite a few times.

Also, the second movie gave me my greatest ever idea for a halloween costume:

There's a very subtle thing they decided about what business attire would be like in the future. When Future Marty comes home from work in the second film, he is wearing not one, not two, but three neckties. Someday for halloween I swear I will put on a grey suit and three neckties and just tell people I'm a businessman from 2015.

Honestly because of the weekly nature of the comic, good arcs are rare. I used to get 2000AD religiously but it just feels piecemeal and bitty at the moment.
