monitor won't display an image

About a week ago I downloaded a new driver for my video card, and after restarting my monitor would only display a black screen with gray or blue lines across it. A couple days later, when I turned the monitor on, it would show a box in the middle saying NO CABLE, and after a few seconds it shuts back off.

It's not just this monitor either. I tried another monitor and got the same result. I'd really like to solve this problem so I can play games again, and if anyone could help me you'd be my hero forever.

Are the monitors you tried LCD?

Does it display the stuff before booting into windows?

If it does try to go into safe mode (f8 at startup) and change the refresh rate to whatever the display likes (60Hz should work with any monitor). You can do this in display properties -> settings -> advanced -> monitor.

Otherwise I guess there's something wrong with your video card.

    Yes the monitor is LCD.

It doesn't display anything before booting into windows. It doesn't display anything, really, other than that NO CABLE thing.

I would guess you are right about it being something wrong with my video card, considering it stopped working after I downloaded those drivers. Is there anything I can do to fix it short of bringing it to a shop? I am a stone poor college student and I really just want my computer to work.

Does your computer have an on-board video card in addition to the one you want to use? If so, try plugging your monitor into that one...

You will then need to change your BIOS settings to use the other video card instead. Weird that it would do that, though.

Drivers shouldn't do anything to the card. There was some similar thread here not long ago...

I think most cards have a 3y warranty, so you could just return it and get a working one for free/cost of shipping.

    What card is it btw.?

It's a 2x sli dual dual nvidia geforce 7900 gt. I wouldn't think that the drivers would do anything, but that seems to be exactly what caused it. After installing the driver and it prompted me to restart it just didn't work anymore. I did read that you are supposed to uninstall your previous drivers before you install new ones... I don't know if that has anything to do with it though. Every solution for this problem I have found has involved changing settings on the computer, which is not an option for me.

An SLI setup huh? That means you have anywhere form 2-4 ports for your monitor to hook into...

Time to start playing musical chairs!

It's perfectly safe to unplug your monitor from your video card and plug it into another port while both are turned on. Just do this until you find a port that works. If none work, you might be truly hosed.

Pull one of the cards, if it runs, you found the problem. If not, swap the cards. If it runs, you've found the problem. If you are getting the bios success beep or code on the motherboard (if it has the lcd display) and you arne't getting any video, it has to be a problem with one of the cards.
