Have a new macbook and am planning on installing winxp through bootcamp/fusion. Was curious how much space people are allocating to windows. i think the total memory is 160GB. not really planning on installing too much, just some stat programs etc.

thanks

If you're just installing some small programs, 20GB wouldn't be too bad.

I usually make a 60GB partition for mine, but I install a bunch of games so I need some extra space.

It depends on what you're using it for. Are you going to be installing a lot of games/apps on the windows side? Another thing to keep in mind is whether you'll be using NTFS or FAT32. If you use FAT32, you can only allocate 32GB for the Windows partition, but you can copy files to the Windows partition from OSX.

If you use NTFS, you can allocate more space to the windows partition but you cannot write to the drive from OSX.

    Hope this helps

I gave it 50, but I'm constantly uninstalling stuff to install other stuff. However, that's 'cause it's my main gaming system, so your mileage may vary.

hmmm so is it better to do fat32 or NTFS?

i wasn't planning on playing many games but i don't own any really.

as of right now i can only think of a few apps i would install but i am sure that will change with time

NTFS is pretty much required. Don't format it with FAT.

I went for 15 GB with Windows XP, which has enough for one game and some productivity apps. I should probably have gone for at least 20.

Maybe, but you need a copy of a retail Windows edition for boot camp, which that key probably won't activate.
