But Isreal would never lie something just to make Hamas look bad......

Israel doesn't need to make Hamas look bad.

    Hamas is a terrorist organization.

And the legitimate Isreal military are killing civilians but it's ok because they aren't terrorists, right?
how proud are you of making that argument? you can tell me. it's okay. i won't ridicule you.
    i'm probably lying.

I just think that acting like on side is better than the other is pretty retarded. They're both all kinds of wrong and stupid from where I'm sitting.

Israel pulled out of the Gaza strip in 2005, as a show of good faith toward the peace process.

Hamas, which took control of Gaza when the Palestinian Government fell apart in 2007, has been firing rockets in to Israeli land, aimed at civilians (not military targets) and has been injuring and even killing Israeli citizens.

How should Israel respond? Keep in mind that Hamas' ideology has shown, in the past, that they are not willing to reason with Israel diplomatically; they actually refuse to recognize the existance of the state of Israel.

Well, Air Strikes when you know your opposition have a tendency to use civilians as human shields, would probably be a good place not to start.

Now that I've got the sarcasm out of my system. Realistically there is no solution for the situation unless Hamas loses power or one side exterminates the other.

And going in with ground troops when your enemy has civilians brainwashed the way Hamas does if ineffective, and would ultimately result in far more direct civilian casualties, as Israeli soldiers would be forced to deal with civilians attacking them.

(search the thread for "farfur" and watch the video I posted up)

    i've got it

israeli commandos should RIDE the missles into targets, make sure there are no civilians around when they get there, and THEN detonate the warhead

and after that just fucking run for the border, it's like what, five miles? my grandma can do that. pussies.

Much as I like a pars pro toto, is there a point where you guys are going to start differentiating between the nation Israel, the Israeli caretaker government and the Israeli military?

Hamas wants to get rid of the nation Israel, but they also just want to be violent, because that's their shtick. We don't expect regular armies to form stable and democratic governments, either. Even if the rest of the world would leave them alone they'd return to violence.

This is bad for the Israeli population and the nation Israel as well as the Gaza strip and the Palestinians.
Short term however it's good for Hamas, the Israeli caretaker government and the Israeli military. (And also for various foreign actors.)

Everyone here knows better than to confuse Palestine with Hamas. It's accepted that Hamas acts against Palestinian interests.
It wouldn't hurt the level of the discussion to accept the same about Israel's government and military

The current Israeli government and military are built on groups that were freedom fighters and even terrorists during British rule of the state.

Personally, I believe that Hamas is the best possible choice for the foundation of the government of a future Palestinian state, it is just that there are certain tactics that they must denounce before that can ever happen.

So you are saying that one group of freedom fighters founding a violent near police state is a good template for Palestine to follow?
Because in my view those roots disqualify both the military strain of Israeli politics and a lot of Palestinian politicians.

I'm saying that Hamas does a lot of good work in addition to their awful terrorism.

If they were to threat their terrorist branch in, say, the same way that Israel treated the Stern Gang (outlaw the organization, but grant all members amnesty, and then, a few decades down the road, give a ribbon to anyone who was a member if they care to wear it) that would be fine by me.

I'm not sure what you mean by calling Israel a "near-police state". I'm not sure how much time you've spent there, but in my own experiences it is far from a police state. Yes, there is hightened security these days, but that is only because there are ACTUAL attacks going on.

Well, to be fair, the area I had measured out in Google Earth, although twice the area of contemporary Israel, is occupied by man-eating bears and remains frozen for the better part of the year.

On the Pros side it does have about 100 miles of coastline on Hudson Bay.
