I'm looking for something that will enable me to do DVD to Zune conversions, especially something that will enable me to do episodic stuff like Anime or TV (something that can easily handle subtitles would be nice). If there's something free out there, great. If not, and it's not too expensive, recommend that for me.
Quality is a big factor of course. A nice UI, and conversion speed would be nice too. But quality over conversion speed.
I really don't know of many programs that do this well, but you may want to watch compression because you can scale down and compress movies quite a nice bit since the zune's resolution is only 320x240 or something like that. Don't have to have huge movie files for great picture quality.
If I were you also, I would break up the movie in 2 parts. TV shows shouldn't be a problem, but it makes it easier on the Zune if it is in 2 separate parts.
If you're not against buying something, go to imtoo.com and snag their converter. I've used the dvd-zune converter quite a lot and have found it to be very easy to use and it does a good job. If you want free, try using handbrake. It has a little learning curve, but you'll get used to it and it will do what you want it to do.

Handbrake is a fantastic option if you're looking for free. I use it to convert movies for my Palm all the time, as well as to play on my modded OXbox. It can likely create whatever format you need for the Zune, though it doesn't seem to have a Zune preset. Find out what the Zune requires, and I can tell you specifically if it can do that.
Well, it depends on which generation Zune the OP has, but all of them support WMV, with MPEG-4 and H.264 supported in all the models after the Zune 30.

I have the Zune 30 and uh it's always supported MP4. Like from the very first firmware version, I believe.

By the way, I use TMPGenc for regular video conversions, but it doesn't do from DVD. Another friend recommended Handbrake a long time ago but I could never figure it out. I'll try it again.
