Was Thor beating the crap out of Iron Man this year? I had just finished reading Civil War trades when I read that, and it really made me feel better about the whole thing.
Loved the end of Ennis's Punisher run, so that probably does it for me.
Being such an X-Men whore I'd also have to put the end of Astonishing up there and the tiny Colossus story in one of the Manifest Destiny mini-series issues that had everyone trying to cheer him up, because that was fucking perfect.
hank pym's asshole behavior being absolved was cool too
I was curious about this one. So it was a skrull that hit Jan?
No he's still an arsehole but he's not a fascist arsehole.
RIP Hank Skrull: Devoted Soldier, died for his people. Never beat his wife
God fucking dammit. Hank did that once, while he was crazy. To is super hero wife. Spider-Man, who is super powered, back hands Mary Jane, who has no powers, across the room because he's a dick and he gets a free pass.
Didn't he think he was a clone? There has to be some kind of clone exemption pass for that.

And Hank was crazy. Evidently there is no exemption for duress.
well... Ultimate Hank used bug spray on her after the beating... but he felt really bad about it.

If he was a more interesting character we'd get past it, but he's a fairly bleh kinda guy with a meh super power. If i think of Hank Pym 3 things come to mind: beats wife, grows big, invents super villains.
actually, I do appreciate it, because I missed that issue.
kitty...

I think my favorite version of Pym was in the Marvel Adventures Avengers. In it, he combined his two kind of lame powers, size manipulation and control over ants, into one awesome power; controlling giant fucking ants.
If every Hank Pym appearance had him overwhelming enemies with a wave of giant insects, I think he'd generally be better regarded. Though I actually really enjoyed his portrayal in Beyond! and West Coast Avengers, where he was just a super-scientist with a bunch of shrunken shit in his belt pouches.
Even though the story did not have as many "Holy shit" moments as I would have liked, I would say the end of Secret Invasion #6 made me giddy with anticipation. The fight in #7 lived up to my expectations as well.

I would like to read about gigantic ant controlling Pym. I think that his real problem is that he's never really been a central enough hero to have any kind of defining story written about him, Hank never gets to spot light anything he's just important enough to play flunky to everybody else or screw something up for a plot device.
Personally if i was in charge of finding something to do with him i'd probably have him realise that he's at best a mediocre super hero and instead retire from it to become a full time scientist and turn him into a support/ troubled mentor character for Stature, vicariously living off her successes as a hero.
I may be biased, but the ending of the BP Secret Invasion tie-in was brutal. Everyone on Earth knows you can't conquer Wakanda. Now the Skrulls know it too. Someone should've informed the them that they'd need to send a Super-Skrull battalion like they did for NYC.
Also, issue 13 of The Initiative, the one with Butterball, was the best. The addition of Christos Gage to that book was a great move.

i haven't read 12 yet, though
Do it, you'll be glad you did. The last two trades have been excellent.
Oh, I know
I had put off buying volume 10 because I thought volume 11 was coming out and then that took like forever and then I just keep forgetting
All of it.
The last page if I had to choose one, though.
The build up was just so amazing, and then you get the name of the issue.
oh god
Was pretty awesome. Beautiful art.

but seriously folks, Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men is the only comic ever to make me bawl like a baby.
Huge spoilers ahead
Let me know if this is too big and I'll take it down. I tried to condense it as much as possible.
I can't tell whether this is sarcastic or not, so I'm just gonna act tough until I figure it out.

So many great moments there.
Also "My god has a hammer"
Also Rulk punching out Uatu, best moment of the last decade.

Giant Sized Astonishing X-Men, and the assorted glorious moments spread across Fables and Y: The Last Man.
Teeg's issue of Criminal. The last line was so fucking brutal it was gold.
what, 12 or 11?
because 11 was absolutely amazing, and was everything Fallen Son should have been done in the space of half an issue
