the most important sense is touch

if you lost that, your life expectancy would drop twenty years at the very least
you'd have no sense of pain and no spatial sense of where or how your body is
    Proprioception and nociception != touch.

    ditch sight

a world without music or eating food for pleasure? count me out

    you're losing smell over sight

    are you high

I could not live in a world without scents

you'd prefer that to a world without books

or movies or TV or comics or anything on the internet or driving or video games

so you can smell a rose

that's bullshit, you're bullshit, this whole court is bullshit

anyone who doesn't say smell is retarded

Sight would be the last sense I would give up. Because many can be substituted using visual means, such as sign language.

Sense of balance would be first to go, mine is tenuous at best already.

This thread is already off to a good start. I have come across many a wonderful post.

I would give up my sense of smell. Food wouldn't be as flavorful, sure, and I would lose out on perfumes and whatnot, but your sense of taste isn't entirely decimated along with the loss.

Aren't taste and smell, like, the same thing? Like when you get a nasal infection you can't taste a Goddamn thing?

That said, I'd probably give up sight if I had a choice. Sure, I like seeing things, but I like music too much, and my vision is already getting blurry. I'll miss video games, but I'll just invest the money spent on computers and games into a grand piano instead.

Smell. Most the time I really use that one I wish I couldn't.

Though I would sorely miss the smell of cooking.

Taste and smell are heavily correlated, but I dont think I have a very good sense of smell to begin with. I have never had problems with food tasting bland when I had a cold or sinus trouble. People say it happens but I don't understand it ... I tend to mistake the scents of foods for vastly different foods and completely inedible products for something cooking, roses aren't particularly odorous (why would you want to smell roses when there are little bugs hidden in the petals?) ...

Healthy food isn't inherently nasty. Fruits are delicious. Grilled chicken and salads are delicious.

I understand tomatoes. The taste does not accommodate the texture. Sauces and purees and salsas are good with them though.

I retch at fat. I think of whale blubber and if I try to pass it down I start gagging and retching and crying.

We're opposites, in a way. I like high sugar, she likes it low. She likes healthy stuff, I can't really keep it down.

HI5, Muse, I also hate fat. Not that extreme, but I make sure to slice off all the fat that I can on my ham.

    you think as I do

you guys are seriously underestimating the worthlessness of taste
    for you

but we're talking about which senses are most or least important to each of us

so I don't really give two shits what sense you value least when it comes to considering which senses I value more or less

Speaking as someone who has a very diminished sense of smell as of late, you won't want to give it up. You lose so much sensory information you don't even realize you had, it's really distressing.

What kind of idiot ditches sight for taste.

You use taste maybe 3-4 times a day. You use sight every single waking moment of your life. Sight enriches my life, a wonderful vista, paintings and art, the faces of the people I love - reading emotions seeing them smile.

You would give all of that up for the ability to taste food, most of which is probably horrible anyways.

That is so alien a concept to me. I mean, of all the main senses I would be willing to give up, if I was forced to, taste and smell could go immediately. I mean shit, my friend has no sense of smell because she was born with it
