It's a weird situation in general. Sex is still DONE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS NOBODY TALK ABOUT IT IT JUST HAPPENS OKAY. But it's not that unusual to see people openly reading relatively explicit stuff on trains, not to mention the porn game characters and marketting all over the place in certain areas.
And I'm sure Hard Gay isn't really doing a ton to bring down the "gays are scary and are coming FOR YOU" mindset either.
Fair enough. That explains all the "special moments" you have with your girlfriends, too. I suppose that's for the best, given how remarkably a series about teenagers shooting themselves in the head for power managed to slip under the radar. Toss the tiniest bit of sex in, and people notice, as Mass Effect aptly demonstrated.
This makes me wonder about the trip to Port Island.
Was the thing about "getting drunk off the atmosphere" meant to be a cover for teenage drunkenness, or was that completely intended to be taken at face value? It seems like a weird thing to do in a series like Shin Megami Tensei, but at face value it's pretty retarded.
.
About Port Island:
There's some Japanese rumor about how a bar can have so much alcohol in the atmosphere that people can get drunk just by being there. Whether Naoto's comment about the bar not serving alcohol anymore was added for the American release or not is anyone's guess.
Yeeeaaaah, that part was weird. But I didn't know about that rumor. That kinda puts things more in perspective. That said...
The game is rated M and all, so I don't think Atlus would put in a random "don't drink kiddies!" message in there. That, and they didn't really hide the few times Kanji is trys to sneak a few drinks.
But eh, who knows?
It's not alcohol in the Japanese version either, though I think the reason Naoto gives is different. I don't recognize what she says at any rate, and it's not 酒気帯び運転... so... whatever. *shrug*
How're you guys all constantly broke? I swear, I never hit below like 200k after about july or aug.
But then I never used any items and maybe spent a grand total of 100k at the demonic compendium.
Yeah, same here. I ended my first playthrough with about 400,000. I don't really think Compendium prices are that unreasonable anyway. Especially when you start getting the discount items.
Yes, thank you. I think Yosuke's a great character. He was in my party my first playthrough, and you all know I wouldn't do that if I didn't like a character! I just think that denying his doucheyness (the mild homophobia, the mild sexism [he very much has a 'women are here to look hot for me' attitude]) is denying...a very large part of his character.

Again, how often do you hit the TV world per dungeon? I do it three times on average. Do you do more? Also, do you try to update everyone's equipment at all times? Or do you play favorites?
As for NPH, I actually used him and Ellen specifically. When Ellen came out, it was an EVENT! Newspapers, television, creepy religious leaders; everyone cared! When NPH came out, the world was, at the most, "Oh. Neat." It demonstrated the change of the last decade or so, societally. How Japan reacted to such circumstances would have given me some idea about how common Yosuke and compnay's actions are.

Same here. I bought a few persona for fusing / social link use per dungeon, upgraded all my equipment when I had the chance and haven't had a money problem since June. Items are more of a last resort for me - I think I've used around 5 revival beads and a few goho-Ms and that's it as far as items are concerned. This game raised my normal item-phobia and magic rationing to extreme levels.
A lot of it depends on how efficient and how often you hit up the part time jobs and other stat stuff. If you gained most of your stat gains through books, you'll be a lot poorer (but a lot faster) than those who gained them through envelopes and crap. Also, an addiction to the beef bowls doesn't help your wallet much.

I believe its possible to trick yourself into thinking you're drunk if you anticipate the sensation and believe you are becoming intoxicated.

As for the first, as little as needed. I'd say it got to the formula of 1 day to the middle boss, 1 day to the boss boss and then 1 day to kill the boss.
But that makes sense, Everyone except chie, yosuke, and yukiko didn't get shit cuz I never change my party. I gave naoto a gun when I got it from a golden chest, but thats it. Now it all makes sense. Man, that Daidaro(sp) is like EBgames for armor and weapons with his buyback values.

Its a good thing Rise gets that skill at 72, I can't stand paying for something I can just rest to restore
I probably bought less than ten things total from Deidara's shop. But I ended up being broke most of the time since I'd just buy value medicine and medical kits instead of grinding if I hit a tough boss. Tanaka cut into the wealth quite a bit, too. And I happily paid 40~60k to refill SP once or twice. Then once the prices got more reasonable I'd just refill SP all the time.

Totally. We used to do that with my cousin when he was younger (like, 10-12). We'd give him so combination of sodas and tell him it was wine/beer/whatever and then laugh and laugh and laugh as he'd act like he was getting drunk.
It really doesn't seem that Kanji could be homosexual to me, as in he doesn't really show any attraction to males beyond one incident. I'm only going off the american version, but his shadow seemed more to be expressing his somewhat feminine preferences in hobbies and his anger at how everyone perceives them as abnormal, especially girls. He stated before that when he tried to indulge in sewing how all the girls laughed at him, which is what is causing his concern and resentment, and since he does seem to like girls he takes this particularly hard. He gets along with boys better (thus his "preference" for male friendship) because they don't have any interest in such things, and thus it is easier for him not to think about wanting to do them. And if he doesn't do them, he doesn't get looks of revulsion.
My take on Naoto and Kanji:
Except for Naoto, he doesn't seem to respond to males at all in a sexual fashion, which could indicate that at some level he knew Naoto was a girl. He also responds well to Yukiko a time or two (especially when she slaps him), including the nosebleed during the camp bikini scene to the girls in the beauty pageant. At worst, he's a lesbian in a man's body.
In short, is isn't that he is actually gay, but that he feared that he might be due to his hobbies (and the original encounter to Naoto, which left him really, really confused).
As for Yosuke being a bit of a douche and constantly teasing him about being gay, that is lessened by the fact that Kanji simply isn't gay at all, he just has some stereotypically feminine hobbies (and as someone else pointed out, his biker regalia. Hellbent for leather). His teasing really isn't meant to be taken at face value any more than Teddie constantly bothering Yukiko by talking about "scoring". American perception of Yosuke might be somewhat colored by the ridiculous sensitivity towards sexual topics here.
Edit: Spoilered the part about Naoto, because for some reason it wasn't immediately apparent as soon as Naoto opens his mouth to people other than me, my family, and all my friends.

So with that in mind I think its less "ATLUS doesn't want you to know about teenage drinking!" and more "Rise and friends are kind of dumb when it comes to partying and are getting wasted off of orange cola."
Kanji says it outright a few times: It isn't about liking men or women, it's about fearing rejection in general. He was confused about how he felt about people in general, but he gets himself sorted out, and it was clear enough to me that he was certainly attracted to girls more than he was to guys, if he was at all.
Well, just got the true ending. I hope I have a reason to play through this again sometime cuz what an awesome game.
So DDS, DDS2 and DS.... Are they worth picking up for the 50-60 bucks each they go for on amazon and ebay? And is there anything missing there considering I have p3 FES and Nocturne already?

DS shouldn't cost you more than $20. It didn't sell that well, and GameStop sells it for $8.99 used, if that.
Yeah Elitistb... might want to spoiler that with a note about what you're talking about. (Never hurts to have another reminder out there, I say...)

Anyways, I'm pretty proud of myself on completing the Heaven dungeon in a single day. It took three SP healings from the Fox to do it, but it was done. And I made a small profit at least, not counting materials. I'm gonna lose some of that with buying more medical supplies though.
With the Daisoujou w/ Mind Charge Fusion Forecast today, I can prepare for the Trumpeter request to complete the Empress S.Link, though I will also need one more level to be able to fuse it. Had to turn away Naoto at lunchtime to be able to go do fusion, but that's probably okay - I need to finish up Magician and Lovers first.
I knew Namatame might have been up to something, seeing him around town all moping suspiciously like that. But he did seem to know something the rest of us didn't know... we will see how it all resolves in the next month.
On a side note, I was listening to the Satomi Tadashi theme (from Personas 1/2) earlier today, it's rather interesting, those lyrics. (Didn't play Persona 1/2, P3:FES was my first real exposure to the SMT series.) I wonder whether or not it will somehow make a comeback in some form in a future game or spinoff.

They make a little reference to it in P3, since the pharmacist says he's considering 'coming up with a theme song'.
Whoops, I completely forgot what enemy drops the item I need for this quest. I went through a whole ton of story after getting the quest and forgot what she said. Anyone remember what drops Culurium? It's for Desk Refurbishing Part 2.

I thought Culurium was for Extracurriculars Part 2, with Ms. Sofue. It's gained from the robots at the top of Void Quest. Besides, you can ask the person who gave you the quest for big hints on where to find the items in question.

Wasn't Culurium needed for Queen Tut's quest? Desk Refurbishing 2 requires a Reflecting Board, which I think is found in Rise's dungeon.
Culurium's dropped by the giant robots in Void Quest, if I remember right.

Yeah I thought it was Tut's quest but I had the game on when I wrote the message and I checked the mission. Maybe my eyes glazed over and Desk Refurbishing is right above Extracurriculurs but I'm pretty sure I saw it right. I had to check the description to make sure I spelled Culurium right. Maybe they screwed up and put the titles for those missions in the wrong place on the quest list. Thanks though, I was after the wrong robots. I remembered robots and thought of the 5th dungeon, not the 4th.
Blarney, I know I can ask and I did but I forgot and now I'm already doing the last grinding before I fight the boss. I don't want to waste a whole day for some stupid quest.

Seriously do not click the spoiler if you haven't reached that point!
I'm sure i read somewhere that there is a dungeon that moves the story forward to December automatically when completed. Nanako's dungeon is that one, right?.

No. You read wrong. Finishing the Dec dungeon moves things forward.
NAOTOOOOO! You tease. You are absolutely terrible.
Aside from the Naoto farce, which could have been the single greatest moment of the game, I didn't think the true path was all that much better than the normal. The scene after beating Izunami was nice, and I'm always a sucker for the scene where everyone lends you their strength. But someone besides Teddie should have given the post-credits speech...
And the build-up to the boss wasn't nearly as good as it could've been. This was a problem with Adachi, too. Persona 3 gave you some proper buildup, even if the fights themselves weren't necessarily tremendous. These just give you generic midbosses.
In any case, this leads me to my final True Pairing list.
Alki-Naoto: Inarguable
Kanji-Rise: This one faltered a bit during Kanji's max s-link scene, where he talks about how Rise called his sewing creepy. If she wasn't just teasing him, then she becomes my least favorite character in the game and I hope Kanji threw a chair at her. But I will give her the benefit of the doubt, becase their other interactions are adorable.
Yosuke-Teddie: All the signs are there. You think Yosuke cared about Teddie's clothes that much just because of the cost? No ways. It was because Teddie looked good in them, and Yosuke never wanted to lose that. And he gave Teddie a phone (Didn't have the Courage to tell Teddie the true purpose, so he had to say it was for the mission). Also, Teddie was really short in that final picture. Was he always that tiny, or was he just bending over or crouching?
Ai-Kou: Rich people need to stick together.
Chie-Yukiko: : ( Just because everyone else in the group is set up, so they can't be left out. I didn't think Chie's dating S-link was that good, and putting her with Yosuke would lead to some serious domestic violence. Yukiko's probably runner-up for the main character, and she'd actually go decently with Kanji, but he goes way better with Rise or Naoto. Giving it some thought, Kanji would go pretty well with Ai, too. Kanji is just pretty awesome. I might use him my next time through.

MC/Naoto is 100% arguable and really doesn't make much sense at all unless you've done the S.Link. MC/Rise is much, much, much more plausible than either MC/Naoto or Kanji/Rise (which...makes no kind of sense at all. He's not very fond of her, and she spends all her time making fun of him o_O)

Goddamn PAL renamings.
$34 though. Not too bad I think.

Gave me a hell of a time searching for it though.
Plus my family is fairly Christian.
Yeah, Nocturne isn't a very Christian friendly game, especially if you go True Demon.
Aye. The True Demon route looks to be pretty awesome though.
So, any tips on playing the game? Though that wouldn't be for awhile seeing that I'm still working on FES.

-Never get rid of your first pixie, or at least whatever you fuse her into. It's valuable later.
-Don't take Fiends(the skull faced bosses) lightly.
-Yuko is the best.
(This also applies to P3)
-Daisoujou is your lord and savior so get one as soon as possible.

Which also reminds me about one of the best things in Nocturne.
No matter how powerful an enemy is, even the bosses, you eventually become strong enough to make just about each and every one of them serve you.
Seriously do not click the spoiler if you haven't reached that point!

No. You read wrong. Finishing the Dec dungeon moves things forward.
