Just fucking forget it, this is one of the worst fucking final boss battles ever.
It's bad enough the accuracy of the Lancer and Tank shells are so terrible that just being a little bit off will miss the target, and it's also bad enough the boss regenerates after every turn, but noooo, now there's a more powerful second form that gets like 10 turns to completely decimate Welkin's tank with no chance at all to retaliate.
It's goddamn impossible.
Use a smoke round to get a shock trooper and a scout to one of the platforms with the armored towers and a lancer and engi to the other, this should make killing the armored towers alot easier. When your ready to attack him move your shock and scout behind him for a double team attack. Alternate them with another shock to keep him spinning around, if you have someone with double attack or the potential that negates counters they should be your lead off attackers. Also even if you dont have the cp to attack him you should be sure to destroy the towers from my experience he seems to do more damage if he's getting any juice from them. Also hes only getting about 20% health each turn it may seem like alot but just keep going you will get him eventualy.
The final boss battle isn't bad once you figure out that
shocktroopers are the path to victory, you only need to use them and maybe the Eidelweiss to win.
Vyse + potentials (double shot AND challenge lover) with neutralize, defense boost, and piercing attack will take the good old God Emperor down in two or three moves.
Widdle down the towers, save your CP, and bum rush THE EMPRAH with a 20CP barrage

This game is completely amazing. And also a complete pain in the ass. I've failed this gate guarding mission three times, and just to fuck with me the AI did it the third time the same way it did the other two when it could've just finished the gate.
Even with that one godawful potential when she uses her last bullet, Catherine's always in my lineup. Problem is, now she's 2nd string to Marina. Just wait 'till you get her last potential.
She's like the dark, lone-wolf hand of God.

Marina was kicking the shit out of everything in the field. I'm so thrilled with her. Catherine was basically defending my camp single-handedly. Except for the tank that came at it.
Soooo you bought the game. It is very very neat. I amplaying with subbed Japanese voices, but so far I am surprisingly not thrilled with the voice acting. Is playing with english VA better?
I think the long wolf thing makes sense. Hell, how close are your snipers gonna be to your people anyway when doing their work?
Especialy with their terrible movment range. But who needs to know how to run when they can reach out and touch a red shirt from the other side of the map.

Time for you to do skirmishes and earn a few A-ranked missions!
Also, I tend to keep a scout or a shock trooper near a sniper just in case they run into a spot of trouble. Or I leave them at my base with another defender or two. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. But it's just that snipers have such awful movement so I don't move them around much. It'd be pretty awesome if I could get dual sniping or something if I had two snipers near each other.
Shocktroopers was indeed the answer. Boss is beaten, waiting until tomorrow to watch the final ending cutscenes.
Go to a skirmish and get someone the splintered unicorn first?
dunno if their extra info shows up if they're dead, tho

Man. I'm doing the mission to take the bridgehead...
I thought I was really damn clever when I put my sniper up in the nearby tower. Now, she DID get a few guys taken care of, but eventually a tank firing on her from the distance made its mark. It was like out of goddamn Saving Private Ryan. Only I was able to recover her body and get her to safety.
It took a while to take the second enemy camp, because there was a sniper threatening my guys and a couple of tanks nearby. I eventually made the breach and was making my way down the main road and through the rubble of buildings on the side, but then a tank that wasn't very active (and I was barely paying attention to) got a shot at mine and blew it up. Game over.
But fuck that, I know what to do now at least! Retreating units and calling in backup rules.

"Decent Action Points"?
I don't get why these snipers with no armor and a single rifle move around so slowly. they're not even moving stealthily or anything. at least they seem to be missing way less now. also the new sniper rifles look badass

Why did I click that spoiler. >.<
Not that it surprises me.
Okay, so this game wasn't kidding at all when it comes to shocktroopers being suited for upclose and personal stuff. I literally charge Rosie up into the enemy's shit and take out small groups of enemies with her. Run in, cover, point blank headshots. Repeat as needed.

If you don't plan on moving your sniper, just ascend, snipe your target, and descend back down to cover. No need to leave your sniper up in a prone position, as they don't return fire during the enemy phase (they probably should have given them a pistol or something for that task).
Also, I REALLY wish Shocktroopers had more AP, at least for their first movement each turn. I'd use them so much more if they weren't so movement-challenged.

Sigh, I'm following the correct strategy for the desert boss, but I still can't get a victory out of it. The miss rate of anti-armor weaponry is annoyingly high. I guess I should just grind levels.

Rosie: "Jane! What are you doing!?"
Jane: "HA HA HA HA HA! DIE DIE DIE IMPS!!"
Also, if you thought Cezary was a douchebag before....
If the anime can measure up to this, it's going to be stellar.
Yeah, he's definitely a huge douche, but it allows for Marina to show how badass she is. And even the manga knows that she and Catherine make a great team.

Was I the only person who had a shitload of trouble with the final battle? The worst part about it, is on my 5th try or so I realized I was being retarded, and beat it in 3 turns without anyone taking any damage whatsoever.

I know exctally how you feel, I tried it about 10 times, trying to kill him with the tanks. I said fuck it evuntally, and fooled around trying to kill him with bullets....
The next time I did it I turned 1 it, I hit myself in the ballls for being so blind, I figured I had to use the tanks to hurt him, because you know, he is the final boss, and typically final bosses are super buff.

On one hand I understand that people are having trouble with the final boss
On the other hand you have to admit it's really fucking clever of Sega to flip the whole idea of using "gamer knowledge" on its head
It's all like "We're Sega! We're known for having really traditional, predictable final bosses!" and then this one shows up and you're all like "Oh I'll just use this because this is how it always work wait a sec OH NOES DAMN YOU SEGA FOR BEING STEREOTYPE BREAKING :x"

As always, it's fun to look at the VAs of the cast and compare their work here with their other roles.
Welkin's VA, Dave Wittenberg, voiced Gaspard from .hack//G.U., Teddie from Persona 4, and Allen from the Xenosaga series.
Most surprising for me is Rosie's VA, Hedy Buress, who also voiced Yuna in Final Fantasy X. Didn't recognize the voice at all.

I think a lot of credit goes to the VA director. While all the voice actors are veterans of to doing video game voices, this game easily has some of their best work, if not their best.
That.... was pretty much my response. Also, the protagonist is Ichigo/Guy (Tales of the Abyss)/the Red Ranger. Not that he says much. Teddie/Welkin is far more interesting.
Also, while we're on the subject of Persona 4, I bought it because Chance told me to in the last thread. Thank you very much, sir. Totally worth it.

Yeah you really can't give P4 enough props. I got it just before the holidays, and my little bro gave me Nocturne like, a week and a half ago (took them a while to send it up from the states, a belated Christmas present). And even though I've resolved to play Nocturne first, I know for a fact that when I finally get down to brass tacks with this whole "must quit smoking" thing, I'll be playing P4.
For days. Here's hopin' I can get on that after this weekend...

also I like wendy's lines, which mostly consist of maniacal laughter.

And I should try using Marina, I didn't like her lone wolf attitude since I don't know how close allies can be to affect her.
And we've established that Catherine O'Hara is pretty awesome!

Easy solution put some one into your line up that lacks the second paragraph and have them try to solo a tank.
Goddammit, I'm holding back the tears. The way they make you continue to care about Isara after her passing is just wonderful.
