Also, while we're on the subject of Persona 4, I bought it because Chance told me to in the last thread. Thank you very much, sir. Totally worth it.
Nice! I have done good in the world!
Yeah you really can't give P4 enough props. I got it just before the holidays, and my little bro gave me Nocturne like, a week and a half ago (took them a while to send it up from the states, a belated Christmas present). And even though I've resolved to play Nocturne first, I know for a fact that when I finally get down to brass tacks with this whole "must quit smoking" thing, I'll be playing P4.
For days. Here's hopin' I can get on that after this weekend...
I fucking hate this smoking addiction.
I don't know about that. Whenever I get low on sp I put a persona with invigorate on go to the first dungeon set everyone to defence and have a smoke out front while mashing x. Love BC ps3.
In other news I think mustad is my favorite scout now even more so than alicias broken ass.

Then I soloed it with Welkin in 3 turns and felt like a smug bastard
It's hard to imagine how.
If I charge with the Edelweiss it gets pretty well fucked in short order, even if I spend a turn having Rosie destroy all the AT Guns and Landers
Upgraded everything I could on my tank, gonna give it another go now.
Here's the quick and dirty:
With a fully upgraded Edelweiss on your first turn have the it take out AT cannon on the roof to the right then simply back Welkin behind the building so there is no line of sight between him and any enemy and then end your turn. This causes the AI for Jaeger to move his tank down the road until he is right next to the southernmost enemy camp. Next turn simply move the Edelweiss back around the building slightly past the sandbags so he can spot Jaeger and open fire until the Lupine Armor is destroyed, then end your turn. Now this is where you need to have fully upgraded armor, because Welkin takes a lot of pot shots, but with the roof AT cannon destroyed it shouldn't be enough to destroy him. When it comes to your turn again, simply drive welkin up behind Jaegers tank for an easy radiator shot.

Man. I'm doing the mission to take the bridgehead...
I thought I was really damn clever when I put my sniper up in the nearby tower. Now, she DID get a few guys taken care of, but eventually a tank firing on her from the distance made its mark. It was like out of goddamn Saving Private Ryan. Only I was able to recover her body and get her to safety.
It took a while to take the second enemy camp, because there was a sniper threatening my guys and a couple of tanks nearby. I eventually made the breach and was making my way down the main road and through the rubble of buildings on the side, but then a tank that wasn't very active (and I was barely paying attention to) got a shot at mine and blew it up. Game over.
But fuck that, I know what to do now at least! Retreating units and calling in backup rules.
If you don't plan on moving your sniper, just ascend, snipe your target, and descend back down to cover. No need to leave your sniper up in a prone position, as they don't return fire during the enemy phase (they probably should have given them a pistol or something for that task).
Also, I REALLY wish Shocktroopers had more AP, at least for their first movement each turn. I'd use them so much more if they weren't so movement-challenged.
I have this issue about being able to see what the enemy is doing. I really fucking hate surprises.
I don't mind Shocktrooper AP. I actually consider them to have the "normal" amount of AP to move around, and Scouts have excessive AP. So far, Shocktroopers have let me down the least in terms of trying to kill specific targets. And they're also the one class (aside from engineers) who I haven't gotten killed yet.
I did have one close call in that map above. Somehow Rosie survived a shot from a Lancer and a Sniper.
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
Nice post about the manga, but the link doesn't appear to be working for me (it says 0 files found). Do I need to sign up for that hosting site or something?
Edit: Ah, seems to be working now. Thanks!

Okay, I have a question about this mission I just did. It's the first forest mission, to attack the supply camp.
I got a little overzealous and figured I could take the General that arrived out before taking the camp. Unfortunately, I never got the chance, because once his HP dropped to a certain point he and his troops left because they got their supplies out.
I still got a victory for capturing the camp. But is there an alternate 'ending' to this battle where I capture it and the Empire doesn't make it out with all of their supplies?

In short, no. The first time I did it I captured it, and they say they just got out in time. Next time through I killed it with a shocktrooper - same dialogue, as I recall.

Damn, mission 6 was freaking amazing.
Huge desert, and it was a perfect opportunity for my snipers. Or, it should've been, but this time even Marina was fucking up. When setting up to capture the enemy camp at just below the halfway mark, I ran Freesia (scout) up to see who was there aside from a sniper on the roof. There was a lancer. I took a few shots, and then ran Wendy up into it to finish him off. I was out of turns, so the enemy moves. The sniper comes down the stairs, takes a shot a Freesia, and the both of them take out the sniper in return. I thought the camp was mine. But then a shocktrooper arrives as their reinforcements.
The next three CPs are spent as follows; shocktrooper throws a grenade at Freesia and Wendy, killing Freesia and taking away Wendy's cover. He takes cover, and spends the next two rounds gunning down Wendy. FUCK.
Rosie is my closest teammate, so I run her in to rescue those two and eliminate the shocktrooper. She also captures the base (which I desperately needed at this point).
After a slow advance and redeployment, I start taking out the tanks guarding the middle of the map. I figure I can move Alicia up the left side, evading the enemies, just to scout things out. A sandstorm kicks up. I thought it'd provide her cover in her advance and I get her all the way to the camp I'm supposed to capture for victory (no way is she taking the enemies out though). I set her down.
Enemy turn comes up, and somehow two tanks fire on her and hit directly (in a sandstorm, from huge distance!). I was pissed, because I couldn't afford to deploy another scout at this point because they don't fight so well. I had to make a damn rush to cross over on that side safely, taking out the rest of the tanks except one. A redeployed Wendy makes it to Alicia JUST in time, and I use her as a one-man army to take out the sniper and shocktrooper guarding the camp.
Unfortunately, moving Wendy up there triggered a sniper out on the other end of the area, and he was taking shots at my snipers (multiple turns). Plus, I couldn't land a hit on an entrenched Shocktrooper to knock him out of crouch position with my lancers (the tank was concentrating on the other tank).
I moved Wendy up to a sandbag set that made an L with the sandbag set the Shocktrooper guarding the base was using. After a fire exchange of little damage both ways, I get sick of this shit. I move one of my lancers up, destroy the sandbags the enemy is using, and he stands up. Wendy headshots the motherfucker and captures the camp.
Don't know if you were out of them or not but grenades are perfect for getting enemies out of cover. Using lancers and tanks should be your second choice for getting people to stand up, mostly just because of the acuracy issues.

There was an issue of getting people close enough without getting shot to shit. Grenades are barely out of what I would consider an optimal throwing range sometimes. It's like you have to pre-emptively take out sandbag fortifications or just take the hits and hope you don't die running away.

Yeah I guess it has been a while since I did a run at it from low level with low armor so don't know just how bad the interception fire would be. You may want to try the defence up order out if you have it. The caution order tends to break the challange right in half with a sickening snap.

Oh, that's why their personnel file mentions they're from a far away land. I like both of them a lot
The relationship to Skies of Arcadia is that both games are made by a company within Sega called Sega WOW Overworks. Some team members that worked on Skies remain, and Aika, Vyse and Fina's inclusion in Valkyria is a nod to the dev's Dreamcast classic.

Okay. Mission 7 really makes me regret having spent all the money I did for this. How in the fuck am I supposed to win, exactly, when the AI is just massing up CP and repeatedly moving people around to slaughter the ever-living fuck out of me?
And I certainly appreciate the fact that my tank and ALL my lancers were missing their near point-blank shots. That was retarded and uncalled for.
Mission 7
They can't attack you if they can't see you.
They swarm in from the right side of the map. I put Edelweiss on the left side of the Batomys - essentially using the enemy's tank as cover. I had one lancer + engineer team hidden behind a tall L-shaped wall there, and another lancer + engineer team hidden behind another L-shaped wall at the southern edge, sort of towards the west of the map.
Selvaria and her crew streamed down towards the east side of the Batomys and just sorta' stood there, and the Batomys (for some reason) didn't move for a few turns. When it finally pulled ahead and shot the last wall, my southern lancer/neer team had 20cp built up to finish the job.
Once you wrap your head around it, it's pretty easy. But it is paralyzingly intimidating at first. And then at second, when the reinforcements show up.

I'm going to dump a couple / few scouts I never pull out into combat. The bulk of my initial starting force in the map is going to be lancers. I want those guns dealt with fast.
I'm going to leave a slot open so I can call in a reinforcement to my south-west camp, since it's the first the enemy goes for. Probably Wendy, since she's a trooper. One of my other starting units is gonna be Rosie, so I can send her out on an Imp killing spree as usual.
This doesn't necessarily solve the problem of the second set of reinforcements. But it'll make this phase go by quicker, maybe.

While I like hearing the advice of other forum goers, if you're truly stuck, gamefaqs does have an A-rank mission guide (I think they call it an S-rank guide because the JP version uses S-rank, the US version uses A-rank).
I lucked out and saw that I could blow up the ruin walls to delay the tank early on, and saw that it was some sort of path, so I figured the Batomys would be heading that way. So I spawned two lancears near the Edelweiss and took out as many turrets as I could. I also kept an engineer near the lancers to resupply them as needed. I rushed out with a scout and shockT to clear out and capture the SW and SE camps after I felt that the Batomys' turrets had been sufficiently neutralized. Whenever I had a chance, I just used a lancer to take down a ruin wall so that it'd provide the blockade. Soon enough, the ragnite radiators would vent and I'd climb up with Walter or Largo and take out one radiator using 3 shots because Walter had tank killer and Largo had some kind of damage boost (I forget the potential).
Eventually after clearing out the ridge with a ShockT spawned from my SE base, i drew him back to chill at the SE camp to later be used in clearing out the ridge once the second wave of Imps showed up.
All while, I kept blasting away at the Batomys once it became vulnerable. At this point, my engineer had died (I rescued) and I was forced to use Edelweiss to take out Batomys.
I saved and reloaded quite a bit to make my Lancer's shots count, it's a little irritating, but it felt good to have my plan go so well.
I keep 3 saves at all times, one for book mode right before a fight and then two saves which I alternate between for battle actions that I think may be risky. I only start using this alternating save/reload once I've tried a mission out and failed utterly miserably because being so cautious and slow does take away from the initial excitement of running through a battle for the first time.

Ugh, I hated that godamn mission. Every turn had a new sniper coming out of the far base, so by the time I was able to actually get anyone over to that base, they had 8 (EIGHT!) snipers sitting there. I think it must've been bugged or something.
Here's what I had in mind for it.
I wish the AI would've done that on my game. I wouldn't have minded at all running everyone behind my tank, launching a mortor or two, and murdering the lot of them. They don't fight back or fire on approach either.
While I like hearing the advice of other forum goers, if you're truly stuck, gamefaqs does have an A-rank mission guide (I think they call it an S-rank guide because the JP version uses S-rank, the US version uses A-rank).
Yeah just toss one in like a basket ball and watch those wacky heatsinks go pop. Should save you a ton of cp.
Man, what, agh! Well, aghghghghhggggggguuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh
guh guh guhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. whatever, I got an A-rank!
