Just one thing. The Pulse Rifle is badass... but only if you upgrade the damage. It goes from 5 to 9 points of damage per bullet, and the thing can hold 200 at max capacity. It is an amazing panic weapon and room clearer. Node it up! :P
He should definitely power up his space-scissors first though
what were the controls for the cannon like on PC? if youre just on a keyboard/mouse, why would it make your hand hurt?
it was quite terrible for the 360. admittedly yours was the best ive ever seen for the asteroids portion of the game in terms of letting any pass by.

I was getting cramp from the way i was hlding the mouse like that. I dunno really...just started to hurt with all the precision movement.
I will say, in the previous set (I think it was) I frowned when you looked at either the Conact Beam or the schematic for it and dismissed it with a "..hm"
You got the schematic for the contact beam and were just 'oh cool', but you didn't realise you had just picked up the hand of God himself.
Seriously, the most satisfying weapon to use in the game, period. And incredibly useful. Powerful alt fire that is designed perfectly for the little compy bastards and a primary mode that is like 10,000 CCs of holyfuck

Drop the Pulse rifle, you've put minimal nodes into it. Whack it in the bank. Grab the contact beam and the first time you fire it a smile will appear on your face.
Because holy shit I just blew a hole in the universe.
There will now be about 10 posts from people saying "noooooooooooooooo, don't do that, buy the Force Gun/Ripper/Line Gun/Rocket Launcher" but they are wrong.
edit: pro-tip for firing the contact beam though, pressing the trigger starts it charging, releasing the trigger when charged unleashes the power of this armed and fully-operational death star.
It took me a few rounds to figure that out.

I like how the biggest scare was seeing Kendra on the videolink.
I think the contact beam is rather awkward to use, but the line gun is so good, it feels like you're cheatz00ring. Pick whatever you like, though. I will enjoy watching the necros gnaw on your bones.
Ok, Contact Beam is the best weapon, buy it now. Ripper comes second though
Also planning to rent this some time this week, any special tips for not being scared off my chair?
Force Gun is the best when maxed out. The weapon particle effect changes from like a puff of smoke to an unholy burst of impeccable light that sears everything around.

Shall I put the ammo in the bank or flog some of it?

I think someone else made the same claim in this thread, but watching these LP's is having a contagious effect. I've been playing Resistance 2 the past couple days and I pick up a Mr. Shotty (I even call it Mr. Shotty) everytime I find one, and whenever I see "Checkpoint Reached", I can't help but go "Checkpoint!" like you did in...was it The Suffering LP? I'm pretty positive it was.
It's good fun, though. I'll be picking up Dead Space for myself soon enough (And be the only one among you guys to get the PS3 version, so lonely) and I can't wait to go through it.
Ive never played this game, but the other weapons sound so awesome.
The Ripper a thing that fires some sort of blade, most likely a lawnmower gone mad, in spaaace. Along with this death star sort of gun.
And yet you choose to have your secondary weapon be a old, generic pulse rifle, the staple of red shirted mooks everywhere.
For shame Helloween, for shame.
To be fair, about 3/4 of the replies in this thread were telling him to buy it.
Because it's such a fun weapon to use, damnit! It's the only freaking machinegun in the game and every serious movie standoff against aliens involves screaming something badass over the sound of gunfire. The Contact beam is for wimps. It's not like the game is difficult to the point where you need to min/max weaponry, lads.
To machine gun or to hand of god. That is now the question. I must admit though, im tempted to try a new gun.
BUY THE RIPPER
The game itself is telling you to! I think it knows what it's talking about!
The game is out of its mind! I just beat chapter 7 and half the enemies are dropping Flame Fuel. FLAME FUEL!
The Pulse Rifle is king! Upgrade it and watch the Black Choppies melt away!
I think helloween is lacking in the swarm fighting department. He needs a weapon that can do group damage like the secondaries on the line, force and contatct beam. (I have since upgraded all the weapons and used them for 30 kills each and while the pulse rifle does great damage quickly its really pretty boring especially since its alt fire is pretty much useless)
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
All you guys have made me regret putting nodes into my rifle with all this talk of the other guns. I've upgraded it's damage twice and it still feels weak as hell. If i could swap all it's ammo for the cutter I would. Grr. I'm reluctant to sell it as it'll waste money and as I just hit chapter 7 i think i'll probably need it.

On hard, for my first playthrough, even.
The PS3 and 360 versions are identicle. There's only a slight (very slight) bit more clarity in the 360 version, though I think that has more to do with how the systems output their hdmi signals. I do like the Obisidian suit color scheme a bit more, but I don't know if I'd download it now that it isn't free.
Have not watched your LP yet, but since I finished Dead Space not long ago and loved it, I thought I should drop by.
I think one of the biggest strengths of this game is the weapon assortment. I'm drawing this conclusion from the fact that you can read through about a hundred pages of conflicting opinions on which weapons are the best. :P
There is no agreement, even months after release, which says a lot. Everyone seems to have their favorite, and what works for one person may not work for another. Personally, I am in love with the Plasma Cutter.

Advice!
You know, I don't think there's one truly bad weapon in there. They all have their strengths and appeal to different styles of play. Personally, the pulse rifle didn't click with me until I had it fully upgraded and then it clicked in a major way. I think the only weapon everyone can agree on is the plasma cutter.
Edit: You don't have to sell it! Put it in the bank and try out another gun for a while. The goal here is to play through the game at least twice and have all the guns fully upgraded.

I never, ever regretted picking up the pulse rifle. However, my aim is pretty good so I also never had trouble hitting necros right in the joints, so they were always coming apart across the room for me instead of right in my face. Hitting necros anywhere except right where they need to be hit is basically throwing away bullets. The pulse rifle is a pinpoint weapon and isn't as forgiving as weapons like the line cutter or ripper.
On the upside, even on the highest difficulty setting I could clear out more than a half dozen necros of varying types without having to switch away from the pulse rifle, reload, or let the necros get within more than a couple yards of me. 100 round magazines at maximum damage can go a looooong way.
But yeah, compared to the visual pizazz of other guns, the pulse rifle is relatively boring. It's much more of a bread-and-butter weapon than a "holy crap that monster just came apart" weapon.

Lylat Wars motherfucker
Yea, weren't you getting horribly reamed by those arm-runners when you came up from the first elevator? I think you got tackled 3 times.
Chapter 5 will be the greatest installment of a LP.

The Pulse Rifle is great but only with significant node investment. The contact beam is holyshit from the get-go.
