I just played this game for the first time and I gotta ask one thing: why on earth is there nothing this good coming out now? that game is amazing, I hope to god Capcom rereleases it for 2009.
sure, I just played it on Saturn and it's a 2 player (although I'm to understand the arcade one is 4 player) brawler game in the style of guardian heroes and final fight...etc. Now, there about 7 classes to choose from and each class has spells or abilities that only they have. And Multiple of them. Now, they also all have street fighter-esque moves where you can do a special "dragon punch" or "specific cleric ability". things like that.
It's just an excellent beat 'em up with an inventory.
Not that there's anything wrong with that at all, but there's nothing more miserable than the troll fight when your three things of oil somehow manage to miss it and you're just forced to bludgeon it to death 8 times before the game pity kills it for you.
Also, D&D: Tower of Doom. That was the one with the Displacer Beast fight, right? Both excellent arcade games. XBLA badly needs every side-scrolling beat 'em up with full local/online/mixed co-op support.
My school had a working 4 player machine of this for a while. They replaced it with Marvel v Capcom not too long ago though. Probably because nobody played it.
However I played it a couple times, and always had a fun time. It was awesome how you had different classes to choose from. A really unique arcade game.
After seeing Bionic Commando Rearmed, 1942 and the other arcade titles Capcom has remade for XBLA and PSN, I really want this game remade, alongside with Tower of Doom, King of Dragons and Dimahoo.
Ah, memories of playing Tower of Doom in Grade 7 and 8 at a nearby pizza shop that had the Arcade machine.
At least, I think it was Tower of Doom. I just remember being the Elf Caster and my friends wanted me to cast Magic Missile all the time because it was big damage on bosses (imagine that!) I remember the Priest had a Turn Undead spell too, which we didn't get to use until the second or third stage. It's all so clear and yet vague.
These games would do so well as classic releases on XBLA/PSN. Who do we have to bribe to make it happen?

If they port this to XBLA, then it'll make me buy another 360!
Best class is the Thief, cause she's straight out ninja!

I remember finding a Tower of Doom machine in an arcade somewhere in Turkey. It was awesome. I put all of the coins I had into that. Good times.

We had a copy of Shadows at a local greasy Pizza Joint, and though I don't think we really liked the pizza that much, my friends and I would suck it up so we could play this game.
So good.

That game was so much fun. My brother and I spent SO much time and SO many quarters...
Like you could choose to go through the caves or scale the mountain, with one of them being a longer level, but the other had you fighting a crazy hard red dragon?

I thought the red dragon was the end boss no matter what.
I do remember a sword the Warrior could get to kick ass (or was it the Paladin?).

The Red Dragon cave was Tower of Doom.

I might be thinking of a different version, but I played a D&D arcade game that looked a lot like that one. The last boss was a strange guy who was partially earthmelded or something, you could only hit him with jump attacks. Man that was a long time ago.
The red dragon in that one was basically a quarter sink, stupid hard boss midway through the game.
They should give capcom back the D&D license, its been gathering dust for nearly a decade now. Both Shadow of Mysteria and Tower of Doom were great fun in the arcade, yes.
I never got to play the DnD arcade games but I did play a lot of "King of Dragons" on SNES. The levels looked good, the bosses were usually pretty awesome, and your weapons became bigger and more powerful as you found upgrades throughout the levels.
In original D&D (before AD&D 2nd) elves ere fighter/mages only. Like how dwarves were fighters only
In the "original" D&D, Elves (and dwarves) could level up in Fighter, Mage, and Cleric (the only three classes in OD&D), but they had level caps. The D&D you are mentioning is the Basic D&D boxed set, which was a dumbed down version of D&D with colorful art and simplified rules (TSR forked the game into Basic D&D and Advanced D&D around 1977). It had red paperback books, and Elves were indeed Fighter/Mages (with level caps). It also took place in the world of Mystara and is also the inspiration for these arcade games.

Also, Warlocks were imba in bgs and had to be nerfed.

The Red Dragon cave was Tower of Doom.
There was a Red Dragon cave in Shadow over Mysteria as well.

An arcade game released in 1996 (and later on the Saturn). Looks like Golden Axe with RPG leveling.

Yea. I remeber playing this in the arcade. It was worlds better then Gauntlet legends. (imho though)

Come on, Capcom, do it! I'll buy them all.

And the characters kept looking cooler as you leveled up, until they were more armor than man.
And two things;
one, its Mystara, not Mysteria.
two, you motherfucker, I came in here expecting to hear that it got greenlighted for a modern release.
Let's play Mario Kart or something...

Great thing about Knights of the Round is that it came out on SNES.
And if you have a 360 and you don't have Castle Crashers yet, you should.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
These are my top two sidescroller beat 'em ups, with Turtles in Time running a close third.
