WHAT IS NEW YORK COMIC CON?
New York Comic Con is the East Coast's biggest and most exciting popular culture convention. Our show floor plays host to the latest and greatest in comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, movies, and television. Our panels and autograph sessions give fans a chance to interact with their favorite creators. Our screening rooms feature sneak peeks at films and television shows months before they hit either big or small screens. And with dedicated professional hours, New York Comic Con is a market place, bringing together the major players in the entertainment industry. New York Comic Con is the second largest pop culture convention in America and the only one that takes place in the comic book, publishing, media, and licensing capital of the world -- Gotham City.

WHEN IS NEW YORK COMIC CON?
Professional Only Hours:
Friday, February 6 -- 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Open to the Public:
Friday, February 6 -- 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Saturday, February 7 -- 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM
Sunday, February 8 -- 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

WHERE IS NEW YORK COMIC CON?
New York Comic Con is held at the Jacob K. Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan. The Javits Center is located at 655 West 34th Street. See our Travel page for directions and information about New York City 's buses and subways.

So, Comic-Con is less than a month away. I might actually go this year. I have some friends in NYC this year, so I might be able to stay with them. The outrageous hotel prices were a big factor in not going last year, since I found tickets are way cheaper than I had thought for years.

Bryan Lee O'Malley is going to be there, and having a release party for Scott Pilgrim Vol 5: Scott Pilgrim vs the Universe.

Other guests include
Gabe and Tycho
Grant Morrison
George Perez
JMS
Bruce Timm
I think the Robot Chicken guys are going to be there too.

So who else is going? I know from Keith's SE thread that Keith and some other people are maybe going, but are any of you guys going?

My last trip to NYC was a complete disaster, a near-total bust. I hope this one turns out better.

New York is too far away for me but Heroes Con in North Carolina will have Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Ed Brubaker, Steve McNiven, and George Perez so I really need to be there.

If there are going to be people from the boards going, I'd potentially be interested in meeting up there and possibly sharing a hotel room. I have family in Jersey I could stay with, but hanging out with people and being closer would definitely be better.

I'm not sure if I am going. Friday is my wife's birthday. She has only a passing interest in comics. If we go, I think I will only do one day of the con, and the other day do something in NYC.

As I understand it, Matt Fraction and Brian Michael Bendis are going to be at NYCC this year as well.

I heard horror stories about NYCC's first few years, but last year (the only time I've been) was a fantastic experience. Grant Morrison's panel was definitely the highlight; I didn't expect him to be as funny, charming, and just generally pleasant as he was. I was actually bummed out about this year's NYCC, because I was thinking "man how are they going to top last year's Neil Gaiman and Grant Morrison". And then I found out that Morrison will be there again this year, and all was well.

So, I'm definitely going (made much easier by the fact that I live in the city). If any of you decide to go, I highly recommend going to Morrison's panel, assuming he has one (last year it began with the words "Time. Fuck time. Time is a four-letter word."), and if you decide to go to the panel, get on line early (last year, a friend of mine couldn't get in because the line was gigantic; I tricked the convention by already being in the room from the previous panel).

Also, I got a sketch of Hal Jordan's head from Darwyn Cooke and an amazing sketch (in crayon, of all things) of the protagonist from Kickback by David Lloyd, so that alone was worth the price of admission.

Darwyn Cooke also drew me Hal Jordan's head! And yeah, Grant Morrison's panel was awesome. I also waited in line for like 2+ hours to get his autograph. A word of advice regarding that to people who haven't been to cons before: if there's a major creator that's doing autographs and you want one, expect to have to get there a number of hours early. They cap the line and there were many people who got there 30-60 minutes ahead of the scheduled time who got turned away simply because so many other people had gotten there earlier. I missed out on Geoff Johns because of this. :|

I just bought my tickets, so I'm definitely going. I live in Jersey, so I'll be commuting, but I'd like to meet up with some of the fine folks from this board. I'm even canceling two classes that I'm teaching on the Friday so that I can attend all three days of the con.

I will probably be there Saturday and Sunday. I kind of don't want to go all the way to NY from Philly by myself on Friday.

All I know is I am not asking Gabe for a drawing of Venom like I did in San Diego last year. That forever will be the one thing that makes me hate him. Haha. I am cool with Tycho though.

This will be pretty fun since I have started reading a lot more comics (Runaways, Ultimate Spider-Man, Green Lanturn).

He didn't have to stab me. He did enough stabbing with his drawing to my heart. :|

Hey, Venom might not be liked by all, but I still like him. Plus, I was trying to fill a sketchbook with as many Venom drawings as I could. The book is pretty big though, so I doubt I will do a whole book of Venom.

Are artists against drawing video game characters? I would love to get Protoman or Guile sketches.

They need to put up the TV/Movie panels already. While I don't hate the current panels listed, they aren't wowing me in any way. I swear Robot Chicken is at EVERY con possible. Same with Venture Bros.

Top Cow will be bringing Milo Ventimiglia to promote our new book with him called "Berserker". We'll be debuting Berserker #0 and doing a panel on Saturday with Milo, his production partner Russ Cundiff, the writer Rick Loverd, and artist Jeremy Haun.
There will be an exclusive signing with the guys following the panel (you have to attend the panel to get in on the signing).

Probably a silly question, but tickets will be available at the entrance to the con, right? The website doesn't make mention of it, just online purchasing, and if I'm going to travel from Toronto to New York I wanna make sure I can get in.

Also, ya, Bryan Lee O'Malley and new Scott Pilgrim. The single greatest reason to go.

Am I better off just buying what trades I want at my local comic shop or should I wait for NYCC? I remember either at NYCC 08 or SDCC 08 that they had some deals going on at the show.

OK. I got my tickets in the mail (3 weekend passes, 2 envelopes because it was 2 orders). I got 5 weekend passes all together. All of them have the little Comic Con sticker on the bottom except one. How would they know which tickets are the ones I paid for and which ones I got by accident?

I just called customer service and the lady was quick to just get off the phone. I was like I ordered 3 weekend passes and received 5. She said to just bring the extra to customer service or whatever when I am there. I was like can't I just use them? She said no, because I didn't pay for them. As if I am stupid and don't realize that all the fucking tickets look the same.

So, should I try to bring an extra person and use this ticket or just keep it as a souvenir?

We can still see him if we show up early. They hand out extra spots in the line at 7am and also have sort of raffle inside the con. Also, you could probably go stalker mode and accidentally run into him, but I'd advise against it. On that note, do you think I should bring a silver sharpie and have him sign my copy of Arkham Asylum or just have him sign in black like everyone else on one of the lighter pages inside?

Last year, the convention was pretty awesome, even though the site was kinda wank back then, as well. The thing that really irritates me is that this year, the site doesn't have a grid of "here are time slots for the different rooms, and here are the panels that will be happening in those time slots in those rooms" like all normal conventions have. There's just a massive list of panel names linked to their descriptions. So, for example, I still haven't quite figured out if Grant Morrison is going to have a panel, or if he'll only be there to sign shit.

Hey, has anyone figured out if Morrison is going to have a panel at NYCC this year?
