For much of the day I haven't been able to get to any PA site. The traceroute looks like this:

A bug in our load balancer software tricked it into thinking it was unlicensed and it stopped passing traffic.

While we have a work around in place, we are still working on an actual solution.

We were until we moved to a hardware unit. The open source ones were okay, they just caused headaches to maintain. We had two problems
    1. We would run up against the limit on the number of available file descriptors
    2. There was no active/active or active/passive setup

I was thinking about rolling my own kernel, setting up CARP, and creating my own solution, but when we did a cost/benefit against my time it we decided on a commercial product. I'd rather spend my time improving the site, not working on L7 intelligent load balancing.

I never realized PA had that much clout, what can you guys get for free if you wanted?

    Belgium.

Little known fact; Penny Arcade is the worlds first webcomic with a nuclear arsenal.

Never underestimate the power of geeks in large numbers.

Or the smell. The smell of geeks in large numbers.

You ever hear the story of how in a mock negotiation he got the other party to destroy their nuclear weapons while he kept his?

Turns out the trick works with South Africa too.

I assumed there was scruffiness. False alarm!

PA is apparently a very suave juggernaut. A suavernaut, if you will.

Khoo shook my hand at PAX and I didn't wash it for three weeks afterward. I didn't need to, it was magically repelling all dirt and grime.
