Surprise! A Broken Xbox 360 Thread!

I come home tonight with the intent to watch some netflix on my 360. Well, my 360 had other plans. At first, hitting the power button on the console and controller would do nothing. The controllers light ring would blink twice and that was it. I checked the light on the gigantic power brick to find it red instead of yellow. My quick action brain worked fast and I unplugged everything plugged into the 360. After plugging everything back in, the light on the power brick came back on yellow and I considered myself in victory. I turned on the console and everything started back up as normal...only this time no picture, just sound. I turned on my PS3 which goes through all the same equipment and it worked fine. I tried different plugs and re-unplugging/plugging back in which all yielded the same results, no picture.

Am I sol or does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks peeps!

power supply has probably passed over to the other side.

do you have any (local) friends who have 360`s who would let you borrow their PSU`s to check it

No picture, but you get sound? Re-check all your connections.

If you get the normal booting sounds from the 360 when you turn it on, and if you don't get any red lights on the front of the 360, there's a good chance your console and power supply are still OK.

Try alternative connection methods, like plain old composite (yellow-white-red RCA plugs.) It'll be ugly, but it should at least display something (but make sure the switch on the output connector that goes into the Xbox is not set to HDTV, otherwise there won't be a composite signal)

I'm thinking that when you re-connected everything, you may have been a little frantic, leading you to either miss one cable, or you might have pulled something out of its socket, only slightly. Check every end of each cable until you're sure.

(Edited because I originally wrote some things that I later found out were wrong or misleading.)

By the way, it's possible that the red light you got on the power supply earlier could have been caused by a power surge of some sort. Unplugging and re-plugging it cleared its "surge" status and let it go back to normal.

Yay, thanks shutz. You were right, in my panic phase I hit the hd switch on the output connector.

    Back in business! <3
