It seems like React! Games has picked up the license to Archon and will be releasing a game sometime in the future to various unconfirmed platforms.
I played this game to death with my brother back on the Commodore 64.
Looking at the dev blog, it seems like they're taking the approach where they're simply going to give it a facelift yet keep everything from the original in tact.
I don't know about you but I'll be keeping my eye on this one.
I hope it turns out better than The Unholy War. Not that The Unholy War was bad, mind you. But it left me wanting for more, when I played it on release.
Looking back i think ive realized i never liked Archon, i just enjoyed playing it now and then to see if i could actually win once.
Still, i would give it another shot.
I'm pretty excited for this. I played Archon I and II right into the ground on my Atari 800.
I remember the dark side had it so good. Use your doppleganger right and you're going to win.
Banshee's were downright evil against any piece but the phoenix. However, the Phoenix was easily killable by any grunt (orcs? I can't remember) on the dark side.
But oh yea, Doppleganger vs Djinn fights were long and epic.
I think I broke an Atari joystick a week playing that game. Somewhere in your head you truly believed that if you pushed the joystick harder in one direction, you would move faster.

So a new Archon sounds pretty rad. The way all the pieces interacted was v. v. neat.
Still, i would give it another shot.
