WPN824 troubles

Roland of GileadRoland of Gilead Registered User regular
I'm having some problems. I have 2 WPN824 routers. One is a version 2 and one is a version 3. I bought the new one(v3) because of the advertised repeater function. After a mind numbing conversation with netgear tech support I was told that if I wanted to use the repeater I needed to buy another v3 router. Is this true? Is there no way to make them talk? If so, isn't there a way I could plug the v3 router into the computer in the other room and use it connect to the v3 router. So it's not repeating the signal it's just making a normal wireless connection like the little USB thingy that's plugged into it now. The v3 router has a way better antenna setup than the USB guy and should get a better signal.

Thanks,

Thats all version 3 info. It didn't say anything about making a version 3 router act as the repeater for a v2 router.

Yes, it tells you how to make a v3 router into a repeater. What it connects to is irrelevant except that it needs to know its MAC address.

Wrong the v3 router specifically says in the setup page that it can only be used as a repeater with other v3 routers as in not v2. Netgears tech support also told me this over the phone. I was hoping maybe there was a way other than the ones illustrated by netgear, because their answer is buy another v3.

Well then you bought a bad product. There is no mention in that link that you need another v3, or even another netgear, in order to setup repeater mode.

you can see if dd-wrt or other firmwares will work on it, or go buy something else.
