7. Gears of War 2 (2942)
8. Fable 2 (2751)
9. Braid (2729)
10. Metal Gear Solid 4 (2966)
11. Little Big Planet (2520)
I think 2966 for MGS4 should be 2666 or 2566 for it to be #10.
Alternatively, if it's "points" total is 2966, shouldn't it be higher than Gears 2?
It's a conspiracy...!
THE PATRIOTS ARE TRYING TO CONTROL THE FLOW OF INFORMATION
Fallout 3 as #1 doesn't surprise me at all, but I don't think it deserved it. It's a very good refinement of a very old formula, and in a year where we had something like Little Big Planet that did something totally new and did it extremely well, I don't think that's good enough. Oh well!
I vehemently disagree with Fallout 3 as #1, but I can't complain, because L4D is #2 and Braid is in the top 10.
I loaded up Braid for the girlfriend the other day, and I'd forgotten just how good it is. I've not played it since it came out and was quite happy just to sit and listen to the music
I would never have thought LFD would be high on the list after playing the demo.
However, after buying the game, (after giving into peer pressure from you guys) and playing hour after hour of it online....hell yes it deserves it's placement.

By nature of the system, games which more people played will have an advantage over ones people did not. Fallout 3 was one of the "big" games. Just how those things tend to fall.
A decidedly good year for multi-platform titles. I am pleased with the results.
Fallout 3 was a pretty great game, as was Left4Dead and Grand Theft Auto IV (I really don't get the hate for the game I see in places, I had major fun with it). I kind of think Metal Gear Solid 4 should have been a little higher up, but then again, having played most of it, I think it services more as a cinematic than as a game. Which is great since I like the cutscenes, but I can understand why some people wouldn't like that.
Everything else seems properly placed. I understand Super Smash Bros. Brawl being as high as it is, being so popular, but I was actually pretty 'meh' about it. Which was surprising because I worshiped the first two.

*shrug* I liked it a lot, myself. Yes, I probably would have liked it better if some of the cool, early stuff was left in, though. Diff'rent strokes, diff'rent folks, etc.
I don't agree with any game on this list. It just goes to show that people will eat up any shitty game as long as it has some advertising and buys good reviews from ign.
I forgot to vote, but here's my list:
1) Chrysler Classic Racing
2) Silent Hill: The Escape
3) Monster Jam: Urban Assault
4) Space Invaders Get Even
5) Interpol: The Trail of Doctor Chaos
Maybe someday people will start playing good games instead of corporate drivel.

Well, I played around with my "least favorite favorite" script a bit and scrapped that metric, but I think I came up with something different that gives a decent indication of a game's average "quality"... I took the total Borda-esque score and divided it by the number of votes it got.
Top 25:
Score/Votes/Original Rank/Game
17.99 488 1. Fallout 3 (PC, 360, PS3)
17.70 87 26. Persona 4 (PS2)
17.32 117 15. Valkyria Chronicles (PS3)
17.08 388 2. Left 4 Dead (360, PC)
17.00 2 167. Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ (DS)
16.64 115 18. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (PC)
16.56 161 10. Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3)
16.25 4 144. Soul Bubbles (DS)
16.24 266 4. Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii)
16.05 205 5. Rock Band 2 (360, PS3, Wii)
16.00 2 168. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (PS2, PS3, PSP, DS, 360, PC)
15.90 185 7. Gears of War 2 (360)
15.83 6 130. Scene It? Box Office Smash (360)
15.65 161 11. Little Big Planet (PS3)
15.62 8 119. Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility (Wii)
15.50 129 17. The World Ends With You (DS)
15.50 18 88. Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir (PC)
15.48 325 3. Grand Theft Auto 4 (PC, 360, PS3)
15.45 204 6. Dead Space (PC, 360, PS3)
15.38 8 120. Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria (PC)
15.36 33 61. NHL 09 (PC, PS2, PS3, 360)
15.30 23 79. King's Bounty: The Legend (PC)
15.29 7 126. Armored Core: for Answer (PS3)
15.28 18 89. Madden NFL 09 (XBox, 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP)
15.16 122 20. Sins of a Solar Empire (PC)
There are some anomalies, like Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ showing high with only 2 votes, but I think it shows that FO3 deserves to be number 1, and that P4 and VC were highly ranked by the people who played them. I have the rest of the results if anyone wants to see them.
Some people love anything with Kojima's name on the box however bad it is.
Same with the name "Rockstar". Also World of Goo is not nearly as high as it needs to be, other than that and GTAIV I approve of this list. Good times!

Someone should make a thread about games releasing 2009 (this year, for those just waking from a coma). Someone who's good at these things and not me. I'm gonna get back to my lemsip and bowl of Vicks.

Something I find somewhat interesting is that Rock Band 2 did better on the polls this year than RB1 did last year, despite Rock Band 1 being groundbreaking and new last year, and Rock Band 2 not really doing much new, but rather simply refining what's already there. Nothing wrong with that, of course, considering it was, at worst, a ton of new awesome tracks for $50/$60 and a lot of very much appreciated tweaks. I'm going to guess that it's rise in ranks had more to do with more people having access to it, and more people having more time to sink their teeth into the game. Also I think GHWT's move towards the "band game" drove a lot more people towards Rock Band, whereas having a good "band game" and a good well rounded "guitar game" like last year provided for more differentiation between the two, and thus more incentive to own/play/enjoy both for different reasons.
Anyway. I love these polls. Again, I generally agree with the results and I find it unsurprising that so many of the ranks were extremely close, especially just after the top 5, and then again in the teens rankings.

I voted Rock Band 2 quite high on my list, despite the fact it isn't out in the Uk yet (at least on PS3), but RB1 came out this year and I figured it was the same in principle!
I think Braid should have been higher, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with the list.
And yeah, considering that if you played less than 20 games that came out this year (like me), every one you vote for is in your top 20, it really weights it towards ones that everyone has played. I wish I had time to fit in Lost Winds and World of Goo this year, because they look like my kind of game.
Happy with the respectable #15 slot of Valkyria Chronicles.
A bit saddened to see L4D and Dead Space so high, but at least they aren't #1.
Surprised to see Rock Band 2 at #5, I put it at #4 but I expected a lot of people to not vote it as high this year because maybe the wow factor from RB1 wasn't there anymore.
Fallout 3 is pretty great, I put it at #5, and it's #1. I can see why.
But what the fuck, people? Burnout Paradise (my #3) at 27?

Wow. Sonic Unleashed at #129. I feel kind of bad for him.
I voted Advance Wars: Days of Ruin #1. #36 ain't shabby at all.
I probably put the most time in it except maybe FFTA2 and the PA tournament was jolly good fun. Waylon is the man.
Scratch that, mcc is the man.

Yay for Rock Band 2 at #5 and Castle Crashers at #14, they were my faves with Gears 2.
This list also reminds me, I really need to buy Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead and Dead Space.
Yeah, I should probably do that, not completely sure why I've not bought them yet... :?

As ever, those who dislike something are always more vocal about it than those that do like it.
Hell, I'm just as guilty of this as anyone else.

I'm more than satisfied with P4's 'cult' performance. That means that everyone who played it knows it's GOTY, and a lot of people just missed out.

I hated the artwork too (I am nearly alone in this), but the game itself was pretty damn entertaining, if only for a few hours.
