I used to build websites long ago. Obviously not everything has changed, I have a pretty basic knowledge of the tags and what-not, but I was curious as to whether or not anyone new of a really good site (or sites) for brushing up on these things?
Or if you're awesome and have a tutorial yourself, I'd greatly appreciate the help.
Also, any recommendations on software/programs to use while trying to re-invent my potential career?
Still less than every Adobe CS4 program out there.
It only takes up 300 megs and it's code hinting and code assist is the best around IMO.
That's great, but it doesn't really negate my recommendation of Kompozer (which is what the salmonized text is meant for). The OP might be in the same boat as me and can't afford the memory cost of Aptana.

Ha, I truly didn't mean to negate your suggestion, so I plead ignorance on that count!
I'm just a huge fan of Aptana since I began using it. Great tag auto-completion, formatting, and FTP!
I run it on a Mac Mini 1gb machine. 'Tis fine, but can't run much else at the same time!

Aptana is fine if you have plenty of RAM. :P

aptana seems to be a fork of the eclipse studio. either way, i have no experience with them. they may be better, but i'm primarily on dreamweaver.

As to HTML, depending on how long you've been gone, everything *has* changed, in practice, if you are talking about a truly professional setting.
I recommend http://www.htmldog.com as a baseline for getting started:
THEN
The SitePoints series of books is absolutely amazing
http://www.sitepoint.com
I recommend 101 CSS Tips and Tricks by them, it was an eye opener, and I've been doing CSS for quite a while.
Sitepoint overall is a really nice resource... it's what AListApart would be if AListApart published daily instead of monthly.
we also talk about other random shit and clown upon each other
