I've always been really interested in The Witcher, but my computer ran the demo like shit and I'm at the point where I'd rather play games on my TV anyways, so this is great news!
It's an incredible find in this day & age. You just don't get games like this anymore.
And apparently there's violence and tits.
There is no right and wrong (like KOTOR). Everything is a somewhat dingy grey, and you can't always tell what the outcome of your actions are going to be. I mean, who knows what I picked up from that nasty witch...
Also, Gerhalt can be a really really scary man sometimes. That little speech he gives to the villagers if you side with the witch at the end of act 1 is awesome.

My friend and I had completely different outcomes by the end of act 1 and neither of us knew what we did to get them. There's a lot going on in this game and if the loading times are fixed {they used to take like 20 seconds just going into a house}, then there's no reason at all not to pick up this game.

As everyone else has said, the decisions you make are very real and have consequences. Most of the time in RPG's you are picking either the good or evil dialog choice. In The Witcher, you play a good/neutral character, and more often than not you are picking what you believe to be the lesser evil. I had a pretty hard time with the decision before you leave the first little hamlet:
It was obvious that the townsfolk were in on the Beasts coming, with all of their sins. But it was also true that the witch was indeed a bit of a whore like rumor told (offered herself to you for protection), and knew every sin committed to bring about the beast, a sin in itself. To me this decision was either A. Go with the villagers, and side against what was IMO the lesser of the two evils, or B. Go with the witch, and be forced into violence against the villagers (unnecessary killing).
In the end, I sided with the witch, but it was a hard choice.

Boobies had nothing to do with it? For shame!
he probably slept with the witch. In dark and dirty cave. With orphans one room away.
summon The Beast, which is a giant barghest, which is a ghost dog. It's been killing people, and everyone assumes someone summoned it and is controlling it, but no, it's all the nasty things they've been doing to each other, which you discover along the way
The Prologue is basically a tutorial, and Act 1 is more to get you up to speed. The meat of the plot kicks off in Act II imo.

Funny enough I think that the orphan boy was actually right next to you, when she offers herself. Its very awkward situation...
And yeah, sorry if I made it seem like your character is some kind of saint out to rid the world of all evil or something, thats just how I went about the decision making process for that particular scene (as sins played a real part in it all).

I generally prefer playing games on my 360, but I just got a new kick-ass PC after my last one died.

No, no, no. That was the just first chapter. The main character is no saint, either, but he isn't snidely wiplash evil or luke skywalker good.
It's unique to a village in chapter 1, just part of the plot. It's not a game mechanic or a running theme or anything.

Ok, carry on with the awesomeness and anticipation, I'm back onboard the hype train.
