I saw a movie with my girlfriend early last year (I think it was an 08 release, but it could have been late 07), which won an academy award for best original song or something.
Basic plot synopsis - set in London, this guy plays guitar on the streets, meets a girl from another country (scandinavian?) who hangs around with him, agrees to sing and play piano on a record with him, they slowly learn about each other and fall in love, and at the end we see them do this all night of recording with a band.
