Recommend On: NES Games

Wassup duders.

I have a refurbished original Nintendo. Also, I have a birthday. Nothing really comes to mind for gifts, so I thought maybe I could talk people into getting a couple of old NES games cheaply.

I have:

Kid Icarus
Megaman 2
Mario 3
River City Ransom
Basewars
Super C

So, fire away PA.

The Guardian Legend by Broderbund. Way ahead of its time. It's a Shooter! No, wait, it's a Zelda game! No, wait, it's RPG?

On a similar vein, Crystalis and Star Tropics 1 and 2 were fun.

Dragon Warrior 3 soaked up a lot of my time, too.

Zelda, Crystalis, Battletoads (if you're a masochist), Blaster Master

    Edit: I second Startropics.

Edit 2: Also Castlevania 3. By far the best of the NES Castlevanias.

Battletoads is a lot of fun for precisely 2.5 levels, and then you wish you were dead.

The original Final Fantasy, Crystalis, Kick Master, Bionic Commando (although, the remake on XBLA is fantastic; just get that instead, if you have a 360).

Megaman 3 was also pretty damn good. I think the series went up to 5 or 6 on the NES. I remember 4 introduced the Mega Buster charge ability.

Dragon Warrior 3 would be a worthwhile purchase if you can find it. I'd say DW4 but since it's been released for the DS with all of those enhancements, you'd definitely have an easier time finding it there than on the NES.

Battletoads if you want a serious challenge. Blaster Master, too, mostly for the lack of save function and the game is pretty tough in it's own right.

I like Double Dragon 2 more than 3 for some reason. Your mileage may vary.

Oh, Top Gun is an asshole. I still tried my hardest to like it and somehow came away with good memories, minus trying to land. I mean you were LUCKY if you did it right.

The rest of the list is great and you are crazy. F 13th was the first game to make me almost cry in fear, it still pretty scary to see old Jasons life bar appear. when hes close.

LOL Friday the 13th. Couldn't beat all 3 "stages" of that game without a game genie. Mark and Chrissy could never die because the ran the fastest and that made them way better than any other counselor. I hated the random drop for the key because you needed one to find Jason's mother in the caves. Sometimes you got it right at the start of the game, and sometimes you'd have to kill for half an hour. Argh.

    Street Fighter 2010.

This is one of the most underrated games I've ever seen on the system.

Yes, they used the "Street Fighter" name as a shameless way to try and plug this utterly unconnected story.

Yes, the main character's name is Ken for that same reason (from what I've heard).

If you look beyond that, however, you get one of the more entertaining, challenging, and diverse platformers on the entire system.
