    except that you're forgetting that ID is really just creationism rebranded
    so they make a false distinction between macro-evolution and micro-evolution, then say micro-evolution (minor evolutionary changes within a species) happens, but that macro-evolution (evolving enough to form a distinct species) is impossible

    Two things.

    1st, the development systems of babies is still something of a mystery, so you can't presume what is medically acceptable for adults is true for babies.

    2nd, the people who are pissed are by and large parents of autistic children who are mad at the world and are looking for some explanation as to why their children turned out this way. The belief that vaccines could cause autism was actually a well-spread idea. What this does is rob those parents of their explanation that absolved them of fault. No longer can they rationally rage at a clear mistake that someone else did. Part of the reason why they are upset is because they believe that they will be to blame for their child's autism.
