REPO was an off-Broadway production that is now a movie which'll be on DVD on the 20th. It looks like Frank Miller and Blade Runner had a massive orgy with Neuromancer and Sweeney Todd.

Needless to say, I'm hard.

I missed this when it was in the theater here.

    It looks horribly awesome.

Yeah, I swiftly got the same flipping sensation upon watching this

I mean, in my opinion, horribly awesome and awesomely horrible are really close, only you laugh harder at one of them.

I saw it in theaters. It's a pretty bad movie. The songs are alright, but they aren't extremely catching, and the story is inane.

I saw this in theaters too and was extremely disappointed, I wa shoping it would be horribly awesome, but the songs aren't catchy at all, and I had forgotten all them by the end of the movie and the rest was just boring.

The way I see it, they casted Paris in an attempt to make fun of her and they're not letting her in on the joke. More than just being a rich heiress is reflected in the story, she's portrayed as being addicted to vices and wanting to be a singer, but failing misserably because her addictions ruin her public image and no one holds their opinion of her as high as she does herself. In the end, as a great act of humility to her vainess...
...her face falls off during a performance and Ogre buys it off of their equivilancy of eBay so that he can wear it himself.

I thought it was a pretty good. Any complaints made about it can generally be made about any opera, which is to say personal opinions on musicals come into play. A lot of people just don't like them.

Yes! People are talking about this movie! I worked on the VFX for this film, which includes the graphic panels, 3D projections, gore, etc.... Was so much fun while on set, was a shame it didnt get a proper release.

Just so you know, Darren (the director) and Terrance (the writer/graverobber) are currently touring with a shadow cast.... A group of die hard fans that dress up and re-enact the scenes as the movie is playing. They didn't plan on this, it really just happened... Its a fun experience, but a bit awkward when you think how into the movie these people get.

I do admit... not a great film... but its fun in so amny ways and keeps you entertained :D

I liked the look of the movie quite a bit, and the grave robber was entertaining and probably had one of the catchiest songs, but man, the rest of it, yes even Giles was just....not good.

I think what bothered me was the comic book panel flashbacks. It just struck me as lazy writing.

I'll give it that, the panel scenes didn't match up with the rest of the movie right. I don't know what kind of budget this had, but considering it didn't get a proper release I'd say they probably had to cut in places to stay concervative.

Did they plan on it being a longer movie originally, or was it missing parts from the get go.

Really the problem was that they wanted to do an -opera-... And Darren was adement that he would stick to that definition.... So no dialogue. The story however was WAAAAYYY to complex to explain everything through song... but they tried to anyways. Really, this is only the middle part of the story. The script originally included before the plagues that destroyed civilization and included after the events of the opera. They decided to only do the middle part because that was the most interesting part of the story... It kind of blew up though because they couldn't properly give back story or explain what was happening. It was kind of a necessity.

My wife wanted to see this so badly when it first came out. But it turns out, there was nowhere in a 300 mile radius playing it. Seriously, we live in Northern Indiana and I think the closest we could find was maybe Columbus, Ohio. Maybe. We were both kind of disappointed because, as has been said in the thread, Anthony Stewart Head made us want to watch a movie with Paris Hilton in it.

Guess we're getting the DVD this month.

i finally saw this movie. it is so unbelievably terrible. ok maybe not so unbelievable since the trailer alone made it quite obvious what youre getting into.

the thing is though its the kind of terrible that becomes awesome due to the 'i cannot believe this is happening' factor. i totally went out and bought it after renting.

i mean the moment the daughter busts out into how being 17 is better then 40. epic.

My initial reaction was that this was absolute garbage, just atrociously written and only maybe one or two songs worth hearing.. But after listening to it around 20 times, I think it's actually rather catchy, albeit lyrically lazy. The plot is also hopelessly muddy and most elements are inexplicable. But give it a chance to grow on you.

Paris Hilton does a fine job in the film.

She basically plays herself, so it works.

Also, at the end of the movie:
    Her face falls off.

Personally i thought it was Giles and the guy who played Luigi Largo try to prop up a largely awful movie. The story goes pretty much nowhere and ends around the halfway point and some of the songs are bloody awful (whoever wrote that one with Shilo singing about being 17 should have been bloody shot. I felt so very happy when Giles backhanded her at the end of it).

That said Giles can bloody sing and he gets a couple of really good songs and Luigi seemed to get all of the good non-singing lines "Is this De-caff?! I will shoot you in the face!" All in all it was a good concept let down by mediocre execution.

After my first viewing I was disappointed, but after I watched it a second time I loved it. The beginning is a little weak with the songs and what's actually going on, but it picks up and gets really awesome quickly.

    My biggest complaint is
when the Repoman goes after Rotti and Shiloh knocks him out. He gets up to go to the stage and freaks out, but everybody he kills is in comic panels, and we don't really see it. Horseshit! That's the moment I was waiting for the entire movie.
The movie is what it is and if you can accept that it's good.

Uh, no. It's a bad movie. I don't go into a movie called Repo: The Genetic Opera looking to have some insightful thought provoking 2 hours. But I do want to be entertained with good songs, which there really wasn't much of that, passable acting, and some semblence of a story line.

Instead, we got "Let's throw blood at everything and over react to an annoying extent. When Paris Hilton is the most subdued of the cast, you got issues.

I caught this on the Repo Road show, and Terrance and Darren were both there along with Alexa Vega. The movie was a riot, and lots of folks were in costume acting a fool during the show. The Q&A afterwards was fairly awesome, Alexa called out Terrance on his deleted sex scene with Paris Hilton too, which provided some hilarious commentary.

This film is truly a niche film, and I think in many ways, it's becoming the new Rocky Horror of the times. Folks in costume, people dancing in the isles etc., The movie on it's own merits isn't great - but rolled with the big screen experience, this movie shines.

Also, Alexa Vega is ridiculously hot in person. Not like Spy Kids pedo hot, but more like organ harvesting opera hot.

I saw this last night. I enjoyed it for the most part. I liked the Mag/Shilo duet but the rest of the music was mediocre at best.

Movie gets an A for effort though.

Worst song: The 'I'm 17 now leave me alone angst' song they had Alexa Vega do. I mean... she's not terrible but the song was horribly written and the music was even worse. I almost turned it off when i got to this point.

Although Joan Jett showing up as herself to play guitar for no reason, was pretty sweet in that song. Despite the lyrics sucking I liked the energy in the song, and I was hoping for more of that tempo throughout.

I don't get all the love for Graverobber, though. He's okay, but hardly the awesome character everybody makes him out to be.
