So this game takes place in the same world as Shadows over Riva? I wonder if I can take my party to a whorehouse in this game as well in order to get "morale" bonuses? :P

I have a hard time to believe that you "love cRPGs" when there's less than 1 of them coming out a year. But anyway, you have the right to an opinion. I just think you could have played the demo for longer than 10 minutes before discarding it, especially for someone who "loves" the genre.
I have a hard time believing anyone likes Final Fantasy games, since they come out so few and far between.
Basically you are an incredible retard!

If someone said that they loved final Fantasy games and they stop playing Final Fantasy XIII after 10 minutes, well yes there's something fishy.

This game is going to be pretty decent. My only complaints in the demo are no real voice over, and no co-op or multiplayer.

But I like the art style and the character designs, simple and goofy but it kinda fits in with some of the names. And it's no too too goofy. But it is also pretty immersive. They have their own currency, weight system and a very different way of keeping up with armor points.

    Anyway, I like. :)

To be honest I'd rather not have multiplayer in an RPG. It destroys immersion and usually makes any game turn into a hackfest where all do you is kill monsters and get "phat lewt". While that's true for most games, if I'm playing by myself then I'm not pressured into looking for action, I can sit on my ass and immerse myself in the world all I want. I can read it's books, talk to it's citizens, explore the world just to see it, and actually enjoy it without having to worry that some other asshole is going to come along and ruin it all for me.

Well, what I meant was something along the lines of coop, but yeah in terms of playing a game like Drakensang online with some random guy I could see the fun being sucked right out of it. It be like waiting on another WoW raid while everyone else strips down nakey and jumps around you in circles. I think if the game at least had a coop mode that was maybe LAN only it would boost the replay value and the fun factor.

This isn't the first game to be based on the most popular Pen and Paper RPG in Germany. The Realms of Arkania trilogy was a great old-school RPG that I remember playing back in the early 90s. Here's a Wikipedia link:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Realms_of_Arkania:_Blade_of_Destiny

Good times. I wonder what edition of Das Schwarze Auge they are using for this new game.

Blade of Destiny is a truly epic game, it's how an rpg should be with first person exploration with SRPG style grid turn based battles, played that a lot with a couple of friends when I was younger. Fantastic game. Perfect Gold Box style game.

I remember that game. Not because of the gameplay or story, but because of its clusterfuck of a release. Sir-Tech's disk duplicators screwed up royally. Most copies of the game at release were shipped with a corrupted disk #1. People had to call or write to get a replacement disk mailed to them, or if they were really hi-tech (for 1993), they had to get on Compuserve or GEnie and spend half a day (at $4.95 an hour or whatever) to download the 1.44mb file over lowspeed dial-up.

Realms of Arkania: Blades of Destiny may hold the dubious distinction of being the first game to require a day one patch to be playable. And this was before message boards became popular, so the only way to find out about the problem was call the company or wait months for a gaming magazine to write about it.

I finally got the chance to play this last night, and I have to say it's fantastic. Everything the OP said is true, and more... I'm only in the first area and I'm completely hooked. I love the graphics, and the thing I didn't realize but that is awesome about it is the crafting system. Your character, depending on its class, gets certain abilities that allow him or her to find raw materials in the world, and then put them together with recipes on various workbenches. Alchemy, blacksmith, and bowyer. And all the materials make -sense-. I hate it when games are like... a recipe for a ring of power = vision dust + enchanted sparkles + shamrock. In this game, the way you'd make a ring would be to have the metal, and the jewelry-making tools, and a stone, and all of that. It all feels very grounded in the game system, which is a good thing.

I'm counting the hours until I can get home and keep playing. Definitely a keeper.

I went ahead and pre-ordered this. Besides the piss poor english translation this seems the perfect game to tide me over to till Dragon Age: Online.

I hope they can fix up some of that dialogue, it IS ok to use pronouns once in a while.

"Kristiana has asked me to kill the bear in the forest. To the forest we shall go to kill the bear that Kristiana asked me to kill."

I called my local gamestop yesterday and they said the closest store that had it was 150 miles away. I hope there's going to be some kind of digital download release.

EDIT: And there is, on Gamersgate. Just checked. Along with puzzle quest galactrix. SHIT! And I need to study.

Played the german version back when it was released here until I hit about the midpoint. It started out likeable, but the combat system is seriously lacking behind D&D and co. , stupidly boring fetch quests and the cliche story quickly turned me off. When I started to realize at some point that it played rather similar to an MMORPG, without all the good parts that make those enjoyable, I ebayed it off without regret.

So, in short, I didn't like it much.

I'm not far into it really, but I find it entertaining so far. Seems like a BGII type RPG with updated graphics. Cliches don't bother me, infact, they make me laugh my ass off.

It also features by far the biggest sewer complex I've ever seen in a video game - it's like 2.5x bigger then the city itself. And you fight exactly one type of enemy all the way through.

I had never heard about this game before this morning, when I happened to be browsing around IGN before work. They had a review of it which was mostly positive (I believe they gave it a 7.6 / 10) with some caveats on the rather generic fantasy world, cliche storyline, overly-complicated stat system that isn't well-explained, and the combat.

Lots of caveats, I guess. I'm hoping more people here will play it and give impressions now that the full version is out. I've never played the demo but if it's halfway decent, I might just pick it up since it's only $30. One thing I'm wondering about in particular though, is the combat: Is it like Baldur's Gate, where you play in pseudo-realtime but can pause whenever you want, or something else? How are the AI companions?

    Any info is good. :)

    *EDIT* I CAN"T READ!!!

I personally really enjoy the game. The companion AI is limited to aggressive or passive behavior and if you want them to use a skill you will have to activate that skill yourself.

If you didn't play the demo, how can you be sure if it's halfway decent or not?

I meant to say, I've never played the demo to experience the game myself, but if I get the impression that the game is halfway decent from you guys, I might pick it (the game) up if it happens to be at Best Buy when I go today. So far I've only got the IGN review to go on, which was kinda mixed, and a few impressions from the demo that people have posted in this thread.

Anyhow, thanks for the info. I still wonder how combat goes... is there a 'pause whenever you want' feature to give orders and such? I figure there must be or else activating your companions' skills would be kinda rough.

Edit: Just saw your edit. Oh well no biggy. :D

Yes, you can pause at anytime, cycle through everyone in your group, set up what they should do, then unpause. I so far don't disagree with anything IGN said, everything is very stereotypical, the only thing is, I don't care. It's almost like they are a paradoy of the typical RPG types you meet.

To be honest, I don't really care about stereotyping in RPGs either, as long as the game mechanics are intuitive and entertaining, and the story is interesting enough to keep me going to see what happens next. That it lets me make my own character is also a huge bonus, because that alone makes me feel more connected to the world.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure when I'll get to play this since Best Buy didn't have it. All the Gamestops in this town have completely stopped selling PC games without pre-orders, so BB is pretty much all I got. :/

Here's a bit of a screen dump. Everything is set to max except for AA, which is off if I remember correctly.

That little black mask I'm wearing is a CE bonus or something.. enter the following code when you talk to some chick in the first town. She'll ask you for the password. "3EXD6L"
    screenshot0kr1.png
    screenshot1os5.png
    screenshot2se5.png

    screenshot4mu5.png

The customization is pretty in-depth. As you gain exp, you can spend it at any time in whatever you like. You can save it up to increase your main attributes or spend it on maxing your your Etiquette, so you can talk to those fucking snobs in the city. Whatever dude.

You can also increase your weapon proficiencies, and at the same time, alter your "attack/parry" balance. I leave mine balanced more or less even, but you can make your dude more about the attacking than the parrying weapon by weapon.
