My roommate picked this game up for 360 this afternoon, played for an hour, then went to sleep after an all-nighter. I've since played quite a bit, and approaching this as a guy who didn't purchase the game and is therefore not trying to justify any spent money, I feel safe in saying it's neither terrible nor great.

It's thoroughly okay. Not scary in any way, shape, or form so far, though, which is disappointing. I think playing SH1 as a kid forever desensitized me to anything less scary or something, I'm just not feeling it all.

Silent Hill 2 did that to me. Now, nothing compares.

I played the first couple of levels...excuse me....intervals of the PC version. I am enjoying it quite a bit so far. A couple of the jump scares worked on me, but the scares are very much in line with the original FEAR, right down to nods to some of the music and sound cues. The combat still feels fun. It's definitely a Monolith game in the vein of the previous FEAR and the Condemned games. Some of the models are items recycled out of those games, but on the whole it's pretty nice looking, especially in the post-processing department.

I wanted more FEAR and that's exactly what this is. Also, weirdly, I'm actually getting drawn into the plot. The only bad thing about the story thus far is that if I hadn't played the original game, I think I'd be kind of lost.

Ok the game is not recognizing my mouse 4 and 5 buttons. I have a Logitech MX518 and the two side buttons are not recognized, and yes I have installed the drivers and tried again. When I go into key bindings and try to set a button to one of those it doesn't take but the other mouse buttons do. Any ideas?

They didn't fix the mouse button 4/5 issue? Stupid lame.

For the demo, I created a new appliation profile in SetPoint to bind the mouse's thumb buttons to keystrokes. That worked out fine.

I picked this up on my way home. I'm debating whether I should play it tonight or not, though. I pretty much just discovered the joys of castle crashers, and even though I'm just playing by myself it's still so damn fun!

Maybe if someone was to make a Let's Play I'll be more motivated (hint hint):winky:

Probably more like they were lazy (durr consoles don't have extra mouse buttons lawls). There were a lot of people complaining about the demo refusing to acknowledge mouse buttons 4 and 5. I wouldn't be surprised if a patch comes along that fixes it up, but who knows, whatever.

Alright, then I can safely say that I refuse to play F.E.A.R. 2 till that patch comes out seeing as I map many functions to my mouse and it is JUST how I play FPS games and I'm not going to change my basic way of playing for one game.

I'm loving this game so far. While I do agree that the shotgun is no longer the thrasher of men and the reaper of souls its great for slo-mo rushing. Pop it and run forward point blank. It will mutilate at close range. Curious to see how the full auto shotty performs.

The game feels really good I think. Some of the stuff works on me quite well.
Intro: Apartment complex - after the pool
If you turn right after exiting the pool and walk to the end of locker room. Turn around. Little Alma walks up behind you and is looking at you almost curious and utterly creepy.
and the story is a bit better than the first this time around in the story telling. But GOD DAMN IT!
Hospital Interval - After Operating Theater (Serious spoiler open only after you get past the theater)
They killed another Jancowski. There goes my hopes they would use his brother by having him chase Spen's ghost around to explain if he really is dead or alive. And man...what a shitty way to go

In the documentation its stated that he he could be properly attuned to Alma and survives they would need to find a reason to give to him for what happend to his brother. This is in the Gamespot Dossier that you got for preordering.

It's not just that. Shit just happens with PC games. I tried installing Crysis onto my machine, but the DVD clicks when I put it into the DVD-ROM. Takes about 20 minutes to load anything on the game too because of that (common issue for the game too, you can google it).

Then COD4 would consistently crash on me when I clicked "join game" on multiplayer. Worked if I deleted my profile. Awesome.

I have a good machine. FX 60 processor with an 8800GTS graphics card. I can run Crysis on the highest settings for DX9.

I'm just tired of messing with it. I like when things just work, and consoles are starting to do that for me. :P

We'll see you back in the PC game department within six months, when your 360 red rings. ;) I love my 360, but the idea that it "just works" is so flawed it hurts.

That's why I own a PS3 too, and a Wii. I got my bases covered sir.

Well, shit, now I'm going to be that guy who stopped Helloween from doing another awesome LP of a horror game.

It might be amusing to do something collaborative. Or dueling LPs. Or something.

God, I would try a LP of a game like this, but it would be about 30 minutes every other day of me blasting the shit of out anything that moves and be rated a solid R for the constant stream of alternating manic laughter and cursing like a sailor who just found out that he had on some prescription strength beer goggles last night.

Oh, I agree. I very rarely buy console games.

But I'm a PC gamer at heart, and I've been a Monolith fan for over a decade. Gotta buy it on the best platform. IMO shooters suck on consoles.

IGN said that the PC is clearly the superior system for this game.

I'm a PC gamer at heart, been since the beginning of Unreal Tournament. But a game like this doesn't require a twitchy hand. Plus the difference between COD4 on the PC and on the 360 is night and day. I can't stand dying in less than a second on the PC because of hackers/good players.

As mentioned just above me, the auto shotgun is good, and the regular one isn't that bad, just a little different.

The AI is still totally amazing and fun to play against. At least, in my opinion. They stay on the move, create cover, and throw grenades.

And when I opened it, the manual was also crushed. It's like my copy was packaged and pressurized before being sent off.
