Fingertip Calluses

I have been playing a lot of bass guitar recently after taking a long break from it

It's ripping my fingertips to shreds on both hands

What is the best way to quickly redevelop the calluses I had before?

If your fingertips are being ripped apart, take it easy.
The only way to redevelop them is to just practice, but don't overdo it.

In the meantime you can put a thin layer of cyanoacrylate (sold as superglue or crazy glue) on your fingertips when playing to prevent the shredding.

Can you buy lighter strings until you build your fingers back up?

The calluses develop AFTER your skin has healed. They are a defense mechanism type, take a break and let your fingers heal, then start up again. It will only take 1-2 two cycles before they develop.

Just take a little break (not a long one mind you). Put some super glue on them.

The fastest way is to keep doing what you're doing, with short breaks to let the skin heal.

I get gnarly blood blisters from drumming. Once the blisters pop, I give them a 24-48 break for the skin to heal and it is nice and thick. The only way I get blisters again is if I somehow lose the callouses.

Rubbing alcohol on the fingertips helps to dry out the skin and build calluses faster. Little tip I learned from a guy called Eric Clapton.

The commando way theay rowers use is to pop them then dip them in Meth Spirits.

Apparently after you stop crying, calluses will form.

Since we have another rehearsal on Thursday I'll probably use the superglue technique for the moment, then just let the things build up after resting

    Cheers fellas
