    Because that's just awful dude. First of all it doesn't even really that much like MLK Jr. Second it looks less like he has a dream and more like he's about to whup some ass.

    I think we need more egyptian-style monuments in DC. It's kind of weird that Washington has this bigass obelisk and everything else is greco-roman.

    It looks more like MLK's body guard...

    $10 says Obama's statue will be him sitting on Lincoln's lap in the Lincoln Memorial.

    I'm very well aware of the relationship between Rome and Egypt but it just doesn't seem very balanced to me. And alexandria was settled and built by the greeks.

    Pope Urban set up numerous obelisks around Rome as wayfinding instruments in the city plan because they're visible from afar and getting shit from Egypt was meant as a display of your wealth and power.

    It would actually be a pretty glaring omission if the election of the first black president wasn't given some kind of permanent commemoration. Frankly, it appears that your drive to be an iconoclast is clouding your sense of historical perspective.

    That first one is a fine looking statue, Jeep. It makes him look scholarly and like a speaker, broadcasting his message of peace and togetherness.

    Yeah I liked that one best, too. The crossed arms thing is a totally unnatural pose for Dr. King though. I don't know where that sculptor came up with that, but it's wrong.

    You know I don't think I've ever seen any statues with the arms crossed like that anywhere. It's an unnatural pose for a statue period - most of them are gesturing toward the horizon or have their hands raised in greeting or something leader-ish - not looking like a pissed-off bouncer. The worst part is, they'll never be able to build a decent memorial now because they've already decided to build the shitty one and you hardly ever tear monuments down.

    Also, the pseudo-unfinished look is lame as hell too.

    Other than the last one, which is not a photo that I would base a sculpture off of, the rest of the photos show him in the act of preaching (or speaking, it's hard to tell the man was a preacher at heart).

    Not standing there like a badass with an attitude problem.

    The first picture, he looks concerned.

    The second and third pictures, he's clearly doing a speaking gig. While he wasn't a confrontational man, he was animated and spoke with great volume and force.

    The last picture makes him look deep in thought, there's pictures of Kennedy like this. Neither are confrontational. I mean for fucks sake, there's a picture of Ghandi in the background.

    The shitty statue on the other hand, makes him look like he's gonna punch out the next cracka that comes near him.

    I would like to see more middle eastern styled monuments. Like this:

    A monument builder (or the designer of any government structure of large proportions) would do well to look at the Alhambra and Mezquita, as well as the Wikipedia articles for Mosque and Minaret for inspiration.

    For Obama, it could be a lighthouse styled after the Tower of Jam:

    I think that the aesthetics are good, and I felt that that comment on Kamina would be a humorous rebuttal to his response. I also prefer my monuments a little more abstract, like Washington and most wars.
