Heeeeeelp
I have a laptop running Vista, and just recently acquired an external monitor.
I'm also running UltraMon, a program used to extend the taskbar.
Here's the problem.
When I close my laptop lid, the primary monitor switches to my external.
I want to leave the secondary screen as a secondary screen always, even when I close the laptop lid.

I got exact same problem on my Dell XPS laptop. Also when I choose the setting where the laptop display turns off in a few minutes after inactivity it wont do ti if the second monitor is plugged in.
Assign a shortcut to induce a screensaver (mine is ctrl + f12), and then leave the laptop open.
Doesn't mess with the monitors, and the screen is blank.
Works okay I guess.
Would like to find a better solution, but a temp fix is good for now.

I think it has to do with certain laptops not acting the same way when the screen is closed. I gave up on UltraMon because of issues it had with my Dell Latitude at work.

It just turns the laptop monitor off.
But, it then switches the primary display to the external monitor.
I want it to not switch the primary display.
