Hey guys, just looking for some advice on a new cell phone. I'll be picking up a Blackberry within the next few days and I was wondering for the people who have used them which they prefer, the Curve, or the Storm. I have Verizon, if that makes a difference.
I've heard people are mixed on the storm; the touch screen not being as good as the iphones and it being slower than the curve.
Just looking for some general help though, thanks.
I went with the Curve when I upgraded last month mainly because of reliability. Haven't heard of anyone having a problem with one that wasn't directly related to accidentally immersing it in beer.
I'd recommend waiting on the 8900, aka Javelin. Since I'm lazy, here's an old write up about it, and it's rumored to be coming to the US in February. You can probably get a more recent set of reviews on a Canadian-run mobile phone review site, since it's been available there for some time. It's the features of the Bold inside of the form factor of the Curve, and nearly everyone I've read talk about it is in love with it.
What does the Pearl lack in terms of features compared to the other phones Blackberry offers?
I ask cause it seems like I can't do some really simple things on my Blackberry that I was able to do on a really old Nokia. Or, those things are done in a different, strange way. Like, I can't browse my phone from my MacBook through BlueTooth and such.
My brother and a few friends of mine have the Blackberry's with full keyboards and, at least on initial inspection, they don't seem to come with any software that my Pearl did not.
The Curve is awesome and I love mine but I want to state that you are not getting anything near an iPhone. You are getting a phone whos main selling point is how awesome the email is on it, not the web browsing. Just keep that in mind.
i have the storm.. it's in the Beta stage at best right now (i'm on my fourth OS since I got it, and there are still loads of bugs)
also, there's very little software out there for it, since the majority of Blackberry software depends on the trackball and doesn't work well with the touch screen
the Curve however, is kinda "old"... it's rather plasticky feeling, and a bit sluggish... if you can, hold out a few more months and get the Bold

This is right on the money. I have a Curve 8310, and while serviceable, the web browsing (I use Opera Mini) is pretty much limited to reading pages and clicking on links - I haven't found any way to view Shockwave/Flash, and even plain ol' Java stuff seems a little unreliable, although that could just be the browser. Also, the Roxio manager software that comes with the phone is god-freaking-awfully slow, at least when transferring to the internal phone memory and not an SD card.
That said, between the free GMail & Google Maps (works with the built-in GPS for free, but get an unlimited data plan first) applications and the PDA functions, I don't have many other complaints that aren't directly caused by ATT's crappy service.
Personally, I really dont like Blackberrys. Ive used the Curve, and I dont really like it. I hate the track ball thing, other than that its a decent product. As for the Storm, I hate it more than the curve. Typing on the screen is odd because you have to push in the screen which slows you down, response is a little slow. Other than that, the people I know who have it like it.
Personally, I really like my Palm Treo 755p. Its thicker than the Curve, but it has a touch screen which is fairly responsive. The phone can be slow when you switch major applications though. If you dont mind waiting a while, the new Palm Pre is coming out for Sprint soon and might be making an appearance on Verizon a couple months after that.
But if you're set on a Blackberry, I prefer the Curve over the Storm.

I dunno... my wife has a Curve, and I love the little trackball nub on it. Even though my phone has a touch screen (HTC Touch Pro), I find myself wishing I had a trackball. ;-)
The storm itself... yea, the screen is obnoxious. I haven't used it for more than a few minutes, but I really felt like either it was not responsive enough, or I was going to break it every time I pushed a "key." You need to get your hands on one and try it for yourself.

Yeah, I think Im alone in my dislike of the Curve. Everybody else I know really likes it, or at the very least is happy they decided to get it. I just prefer the Palms calendar system, texting system, and touch screen.
It struck me what pissed me off the other day about the Storm's touch screen the most. To confirm anything I'm clicking twice. Once to tap the screen to select and wait for the blue highlight confirmation, and then once again to click the screen in and confirm. It's impossible to do anything with any sort of swiftness on the phone, not even mentioning the program delays. I would recommend the Curve so you're not furious at your phone for two years. Word Mole is not worth it.

1. Word Mole is awesome! It's hilarious how in the morning I can find multisylabic words while after work the best i can manage is "hat", "cat", "cow", etc.
2. I actually think the clicking screen is a huge improvement over a normal touchscreen
3. But the device OS is seriously not ready for primetime yet...

Still dont know why they left that out.

A full keyboard. Honestly, thats it. It has predictive typing to help out with this, but it can be a pain if you type in more than one language.
