I use my shotgun scouts to keep enemies from reaching my tac marines who will basically one shot every normal infantry unit every time they fire.

It's crazy, they are like snipers with bolters. Seriously, did you ever watch them fight? It's crazy.

I'm of the opinion that being able the change weapons and upgrades on standard units would be a major improvement to the game.

I'm not sure, I think I like that you have to commit to one upgrade or another. I liked this about CoH too.

I abuse the hell out of the commander loadout switch option with my Kommando--I usually buy all three of his weapons and change them constantly. Do I need to assassinate a hero, deal with an infantry blob, or take down a vehicle? By the time the Kommando's walked a screen and a half I can have the right weapon equipped.

It was great in CoH because of the army mechanics. Dedicating a 120 manpower pioneer unit to have a flamer? No problem. Dedicating one of your 3-6 grenadiers to carrying a shrek? No problem.

In DoW2 if you give a unit a gun that's 1/4th to 1/5th of your army dedicated.

By the time I hit T2, I usually have one squad of scouts with shotguns to protect the flanks with their crazy knockback attack, one squad of assault marines with their special upgrade, one heavy bolter squad, and (Maybe, depending on if i'm worried about vehicles getting rushed out.) one tactical squad ready to get their hands on a missile launcher to try and scare off any errant vehicles that come my way.

Once you have all that, all you need is a plasma cannon to deal with protracted combat in case one of your opponents decides to lay siege to your VP a ways off from it, and you can choose a VP and hunker down and start saving up for dreads. Nothing short of a massive two player assault is going to dislodge you. And even then, if you play as the Tech Marine, the combination of turrets putting down suppressing fire, and mines everywhere tends to obliterate them and seal the game as a win. If they try and siege you and start setting up plasma cannons/bolters/whatever for a rush, all you have to do is position your plasma cannon to be able to fire on them, and send your squad of scouts in while infiltrated, to act as spotters.

Go play CoH. Its clearly the better game. Run along now. DoW2 is too simple, thats why you find it so unfair and don't understand why you have trouble with things.

    ....

Seriously? Last I checked you could exploit territory advantages in CoH, too, while your enemy played with MGs. Last I checked, the game didn't stop there. You also had a dozen ways to clear that MG (while in tier 1) if you wanted to plan out the attack and implement it successfully.

Flamers. If you dont like flamers, put a dev squad in green cover. These are two incredibly easy ways to deal with a squad in a building.

They did such a good job with the nids... playing them online I often find myself... creeped out I guess by the various wails and screeches coming from the fog of war. You actually feel like you're being hunted, especially on the jungle map. Pretty rad. :^:

Turrets are such a problem in tier 1. There are some places you can put them on the 1v1 swamp map where you can't even flank them because they're backed by the base turrets, and can cover the south VP.

Thank fuck for walkers. Just hope they don't have a walker themselves backing up that turret.

Why does the Techmarine build his turrets so much faster than the Mekboy can?

I hate turrets in 1vs1 so much.

On the desert map, you can build a turret and the south and north VP right in the corner and you are unable to flank it or jump over it :(

More screenshots D: please. Some of us can only read about the game at this point.

    Questions:
Do all upgrades show on the units visually? Can vehicles squish infantry? can garrisoned buildings only fire in certain directions and not 360 degrees? is there persistant terrain scarring? are units still invulnerable during sync kills?

I actually like that map, micro battles all game long on the close VP and req point, while trying to free up enough units to take the map. I do hate it when I spawn on the north side and someone puts a heavy weapons team in the building next to the close power, I've lost so many units rallied past there.

Another gripe I have is Guardian squads being beaten by SM Dev squads in melee. Poor poor Guardians. Such an incredibly fun game though, in both 1v1 and 3v3.

Most upgrades visually change units, yes. From adding big shootas to shoota squads or a power sword to your Force Commander. Some things, like adding melta bombs to your Assault Marines do not change anything visually, which makes sense. They're just grenades, afterall.

Garrisonned buildings have windows which units can fire out of in an arc. If theres a window facing a direction, a unit can fire in that direction from inside. If the building is surrounded, they will take up as many windows as they can to fire out of.

Units are invulnerable during sync kills, but attacking units are smart enough to stop firing on sync-killing units and focus on other enemies (if around) until the sync kill is over.

I'm kinda suprised at just how good they get in teir2 especialy with the vehicle repair ability they're definatly worth keeping around. Oposed to the throw away unit of the orriginal DOW that I usualy deleted to free up squad cap. They will always suck in melee though. Early game best used with cover and guide/fortune if you have it.

I don't understand point 2. If you're cap out the map and wipe him out, he has few resources, needs to build up units, cap all the victory points as they tick pretty fast when you hold them all, and get the correct counters and position them in a way that will kill your units. You, on the other hand, need to hold 3 points with a full army.

If you manage to lose in that situation, I don't think its the games fault.
The guy just complained that his "perfect" tactics of throwing a bunch of grenades at a squad didn't work, then immediately made a new post about some other game that is clearly better. I don't think you can (or should try to) reason with him. Just like Ubergeek.

Hey, I never ever claimed to be using perfect tactics, I just pointed out once there were almost 10 races they really stopped trying to balance out the races. That's -all- I ever pointed out. You guys like to blow things way out of proportion if someone disagrees with something you like. His argument and my argument (from like a -year- ago) are nothing alike.

I go to bed and when I wake up the two of you are bitching about something from over a year ago where I simply stopped playing.
