    I'm so horrible at likeness. I'm very, very sorry, Sharky T. I tried, but it is seriously lopsided and bad. Very fun to do though, I learned some interesting things.

    If it makes you feel any better, I used the Gimp's measure tool instead of my sighting stick (pencil) to get the_monarch's proportions down.
    so much trouble with the goddamned nose...

    What's wrong with eye dropping is that you dont learn as much as you can from the pic. But as you said, if you are just fooling around and its not really your intent to use it as a study, I'll try not to get all snobby on you. :P

    On the topic of eye-dropping, a lot of concept artists eye-drop colour from photos. I think it's ok to 'cheat' (if it is cheating) a little if you are doing it professionally and have a close deadline. But if your goal is to study fine art, then theres not much to be learnt from eye-dropping.

    If you think that's bad, we had a dude come in from Rising Sun to give a talk on how they do concept art and backdrops/map-painting for the new Harry Potter movies. Guess what they do? They google image trees, water, smoke, fire etc, flip horizontal (erase the copyright logo:))and place it into the backgrounds. And they might 'sometimes' paint over them a little.
