Hello, I am thinking of getting an 8800GT to play L4D and TF2 the rest of my specs are:
Pentium 4 3GHz CPU.
1GB OCZ ram.
500w PS.
100G Sata HDD.

Could I play L4D at medium graphics?

Thanks in advance.

    Yes.

2GB of RAM is dirt cheap nowadays.
May look into that as well to increase your performance.

I am running L4D at full awesomeness 1680x1050.

    with
    Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz <--- important
    2GB DDR 2 800 MHz <--- important
    EVGA 8800 GTS (512MB) <--- important
    ~470watt PSU <--- important
    320GB SATA HD <
    not as important

    probably should be in Moe's

2GB of RAM, a Core 2 Duo and an 8800GT will serve you just fine.

The guy wants to buy an 8800 to play those games with his current system, he didn't say anything about buying new processors and ram.

To the op - yes, that will be fine. Although ram is dirt cheap nowadays.

...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.

A lot better. I run L4D at max settings with my 9800 GTX+. Keep in mind I also have a Core 2 Duo and 4 GB of RAM so I'm not bottle necking my video card though most Source games run fine even with older processors.

TBH, L4D is pretty scalable. I run it great on low with my laptop.(specs below) While it is not preferable it does run and def. gets the job done.
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 TK53 1.7GHz Dual Core Processor
    160GB (5400 RPM) Hard Drive
    1024MB DDR2 SDRAM
nVidia GeForce Go 6150 graphics card

Well rule of thumb is your Half-Life 2 settings dictate most other Source game settings. Probably most true with Episode 1.
