I definitely want to rock PAX on Saturday as Dawn.
I'd really like to sew the hat myself, and I was thinking of using fleece. I've never sewn fleece before though, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for working with it.
I'm also pretty sure I've seen little pokeballs that had candy in them at Hot Topic, but I failed at Google. Anyone else seen these?
I have been making my costume for months and Im wondering if everyone else is going to wear theirs all 3 days, just 1 day, or 3 diff costumes. Having a little anxiety about it.

So I've been toying with the idea of showing up as Crimson Viper from SFIV one of the days of the expo. The only real issue I'm encountering is her hair. My hair is the right color, and pretty long, but not THAT long. Does anyone have any suggestions as to a good place to pick up some very long hair extensions? I would rather take the time to style my own hair than use a wig, but I'd like something that can be removed after a day or two.

NO. DO NOT, under any circumstances, bring a weapon to PAX. As it has been discussed at the old thread, Washington State law says (roughly) that if someone feel threatened by an item, it is a weapon. Vauge, I know. But we're all smart enough to know that bringing an actual weapon to PAX is a really bad idea. No real guns, sharp swords, etc. So if its real, it is just better to LEAVE IT AT HOME.
Can I bring a prop/fake weapon to PAX?
Potentially. A good rule of thumb is that the more fake it looks, the safer it is to bring to PAX. Paper mache, pvc pipe, and foam can all be good prop weapon materials. Also, here are some good guidelines when thinking about bringing an prop to PAX:
- No sharp edges. If it can cut/peirce the any part of a cucumber, it's too sharp.
- No pointy parts. It has to be about the same dullness as the corner of your keyboard.
- No projectiles. If it can be shot, thrown, or otherwise launched into the air, no. Just no.
- No really big things. If you can't carry it around for 25 minutes or its too large to fit though a 8ft x 3ft doorway, it's not a good idea.
- No replicas. If it looks exactly like a weapon, most people will think it is one.
Relevant here especially is "No replicas. If it looks exactly like a weapon, most people will think it is one."

So my best bet to bring daggers that aren't going to get me in trouble but don't look like Sh*t is to replace the steel blades with the plastic blade from the costume knight sword?
Apparently people on a cosplay forum I'm on have done that, I need to find out how though.

Your best bet is to not bring daggers at all.

Well no duh XD, Notice I said "So my best bet to bring daggersthat aren't going to get me in trouble..."
Not to piss on your box of fireworks, but the impression we got from people involved running the event and from Seattle as a city is that they don't won't anything that looks even remotely threatening being carried around in public. It does seem draconian but nobody wants to be harassed by the police while wearing something silly. Play it safe, come completely unarmed.
I skimmed through the thread but I wasn't able to find anything regarding a specific day for TF2 cosplay?
I dressed up as a scout for Sakura Con a couple years back and we organized on the forum and met up at the predetermined date/place/time for a photoshoot (it turned out to be more of a Valve group than solely TF2, which was great!) It was a lot of fun swapping weapons (scout with a minigun?!) and things like that, and we eventally broke up into smaller roving groups which I thought was more fun than being a solo character from a game that is so heavily team-based.
Did I just miss a post somewhere or could we maybe decide on a TF2 day?
You did not miss this information. The problem we have so far is that we're not sure what events are going on and when this year, and I haven't received any feedback on preferred dates/times. I would suggest Saturday as the day for a meet-up because that's normally the busier day and there's more people able to make it for the weekend. After about mid-day is normally a good time as well because most events take a break so people can get some lunch. That means people won't miss anything, there'll be more people around to join in and there'll be better light for photos. As for a meeting place, outside the con's main doors where there's a lot of public space or inside the foyer, which hardly seems to be used and would be good if it's raining. There's also the park area out back where everyone goes for a smoke. Before any of this is set in stone, we need to get in touch with Enforcers or some floor personell to make sure that the group, however large it ends up being, doesn't block floor traffic or cause other problems. Mostly these things are common sense, and people at PAX, if they have one thing, have a sense of FUN.

Meh whatever, I probably won't have the costume done by PAX anyway.
My husband and I went to japanese night at safeco field as mario and luigi, so I think that we might show up as them for pax. Not very original, but I don't think people will mind too much.
SO I'm coming way late to the party but I think I've got myself set. As a tallish Bald white dude my options are limited. SO:
Friday: Agent 47
Saturday: Dr. Manhattan
Sunday: Blue Spy.
I Get to use the same suit 3 times and still count it. Also if any TF2'ers are planning one day to get together I'm game. I just have to know ahead of time to switch things around.
Speaking of Blue Spy, anyone got a line on either making or buying a black or dark blue Balaclava? (the sock the spy wears on his head). All I seem to find are fleece and no way is fleece a good idea over labor day.

Getting either color without a mouth hole is EASY.
Black w/ mouth hole is easy-ish, Blue with mouth hole is not.
For the past 2 years we have come dressed up as warhammer fantasy characters, we have had replica flintlocks, swords, daggers and last year I had a huge nasty kris dagger... absolutely no problems at PAX or going to/from. We have even walked right by cops. Don't threaten anyone with it, and make sure you pay attention to where it is and who it might be poking and I think you'll be ok. At least we have been in the past.
This year we are doing warhammer 40K characters, so all our weapons are going to look completely unrealistic anyway. Well, except for my grenades and I am going to repaint those so they no longer look like surplus... which they are. They don't have the BOOM, they are just the container portion but STILL.

The stance we're taking is that it's better to be safe than sorry. Nobody wants their weekend ruined by having to deal with the police or having their stuff confiscated. Naturally you're all free entities and can do as you wish, but please think twice about what you're taking. I know most of you aren't stupid, but err on the side of caution: the repurcussions may extend to beyond just yourselves.
Ok, i've hit a small wall. I want to build a Spy Electro-sapper. I'd like to avoid cardboard if possible. My thought is to start with a mental box and build into it. Maybe even use it to carry swag as I'll be carrying it anyway. So i thought: metal lunch box. But i'm just not sure that's they best option. Any ideas?

Since I'm going as BLU Spy to PAX this year, I've been looking for a pattern for a balaclava. Does anyone here know where I can find a good one?
EDIT: I realize some are being thrown around right now, but ones able to be built specifically around my head are much more effective, plus they have the advantage of being easily modifiable.

At Sally's Beauty Supply they sell hair ext but kinda pricey...
cosworx.com has long ones for about 8 bucks. Pretty thick too!
Or go to Costume Display for some wigs and make your own extensions out of existing wefts.

Fleece...has very little stretch, i'm sure it'll be fine if you handsewed the hat. If you're lazy, test out some scraps on a sewing machine. Not sure if you need to change the presser foot (sp?)
xoxoxoxox
On another note, I finished my main costume...so I'm free to do prop commissions if anyone's interested. Just putting it out there for the locals...
Thanks for the info on the hair. Over the past week, and via frustration at finding reasonably priced extensions, I've decided to go ahead and have a wig commissioned. It'll be a bit warm, I imagine, but hell, I'll be sporting a modified business suit along with Viper's mane, so I might as well side with convenience.
as much as I'd like to bring a Legend of Dragoon cosplay...it'll be way too much of a hassle to move around.
I think I'll cosplay as Talim from Soul Calibur instead DX I'm 90% done with clothes and weapon.
Probably won't finish styling her wig. Talim has EPIC hair. Mine is waaay too thin. But gotta start on dynasty warriors cosplay soon T.T Might bring yuffie again...
Anyone else doing soul calibur ??
..i'll stop rambling
I am going as Kamikirimusi from SCIV and my buddy is going as the Apprentice, both on Saturday. I think I may have seen one other person on the boards talking about a SC cosplay. Look forward to seeing you if you do dress as Talim. Are you doing the P1 or P2 costume?
I just finished planning my peach battle worn costume! It will include: bullet holes, fire burns, dirt, fake blood, scratches, ripping in the cloth and much more XD. Just today I bought the foam for my weapon, which will be very awesome!
I normally think peach is annoying but this will make her awesome! (I will post pictures of progress in spoiler warningas when I have some pics XD)

What if I cover it in foil so the blades aren't useable? Then it's just a stick covered in foil right?
Really, no.
Guess I have to use these lame ones that don't even look like one's from the movie.
