In OG1 I essentially kept everyone in their own mechs. The only character I got who didn't bring one of her own was Leona and I stuck her in the Wildschwein. Since I played the Kyosuke route, Latooni came with Wildbrautier. The only characters I ever used in OG1 were the ATX team, the SRX team, Katina, Russel, Sanger, Elzam, Leona, Latooni, Tasuka, Masaki, Gilliam, Viletta and occasionally Lune and Kai (Kai's Gespenst just couldn't move fast enough to be useful to me).
In OG2 I used a lot broader array of characters, what with all the routes and stuff. Ibis is awesome with her real mech.
Sidenote, I was looking on GameFAQs, and there was a thread about Katina's eyes, and I liked one of the explanations in it.
Russel's soul is trapped in one of them.
The battle masteries requiring you to down a boss that otherwise retreats or having to do it with a time limit is half the reason why I have every pilot on my team pick up support if they don't have it naturally. My usual method for dealing with that situation wound up being a Valored Rampage Ghost with Irm supporting with a Darkness Slash. This obviously isn't an option for you unless you happen to have 50 PP lying around for Irm.
But it's worth considering doing for future missions.
The BGM list for SRW W is out. Major shockers include the exclusion of most of the classic Nadesico themes for more specific stuff from the show and movie, the addition of SEED's first ED as a battle theme, and FMP! Fumoffu and FMP! TSR's openings making the cut as well.
On the roboty side of things, well...
The Valhawk and Valstork combine into the mighty Valguard.

Giganscudo + R-2?

If you've been upgrading Oxtongue B and Revolver Stake, Rampage Ghost does way more damage than Giga Urgano. Remember to throw Strike onto R-2 before you attack with Alt/Weiss though so that his support doesn't miss (if necessary, I don't remember what boss-Sanger's evade numbers look like).
Seriously, the Love-Love Attack is not to be underestimated. By the end of OG2, my Rampage Ghost dealt vastly more damage than everything except Sanger and Elzam's combo-attack.

I bloody well knew it! Awesome.
Is Valguard an LL size mech? If so, then I think that would make it the first Banpresto Original good guy mech of that size ever.

Ahahaha, nooo no, I meant that Valguard looks like a combination of Giganscudo and R-2.
I didn't know boosting Oxtongue B and Revolver Stake increased Rampage Ghost's damage though, that is very good to know.
Wait, GameFAQs says it's Oxtongue D that you have to upgrade, which makes sense.

I found that in the hands of Ryusei, it can be stronger than his T-link sword when upgraded some.
Of course in the Ryusei route, he'll probably spend most of his time in the SRX after a while too. In OG2, I had Kyosuke using the Boosted Hammer for a long time (eventually it went to a real robot pilot that didn't get a super weapon mech) to conserve ammo. I suspect I would have done similar had I gotten ahold of the blade in OG1.
Yeah, I gave the Shishio Blade to Kyosuke when I got it in OG1. It just made sense, given his high melee stat and the fact that the Alt is an extra weapon-equipable Real.
JJ, you could allways import it, it's Very importable because it's a DS game, I'm sure the @3 folks at GAMEFAQS will write the usuall guides. Seishin, Item/Part list, Strategy Walkthroughs, the whole thing.
I'm going to import @3 and I allready have a bunch of bookmarks ready for when I play it.
- Gai Daigoji not only survives Nadesico, but is in the Prince of Darkness section of the game as well, with a slightly older facial portrait and a brand new Aestivalis
- Beating the game unlocks a store that'll let you spend your hard earned credits to purchase enemy units you can use on your next playthrough!

Does that include boss units? that'd be pretty sweet
Also there's apparently some way to get a "true final stage". More on that as it develops.

I think I'm gonna have to abuse the system a little to get those secrets, like the 008L and the different items which require people to be at a certain level.

Graviton Launcher
I love this gun... Definitely more useful than the Shishio Blade, but it
is actually difficult to obtain. o_o; If you are using Ryusei, then Kyosuke
needs 55 kills before the end of Scenario 32. If you are using Kyosuke, then
Ryusei needs 55 kills before the end of Scenario 32.
Hero Symbol
A nice item. Armor +200, Evade +25, Accuracy +30%. You want that right?
Ryusei Route: Daitetsu (Hagane Captain) needs to be level 35 or above before
the end of Scenario 34 (you can finish leveling him up in this stage).
Huckebein 008L
Ah, one of the big secrets of the game actually.
Ryusei Route: Ingram must be at level 32 before the end of Scenario 29. Rin
will be piloting Huckebein 008L in Scenario 37 and you will receive the unit
afterwards.
Metal Soul
An item that gives +250 Armor, +30 Mobility, +35% Accuracy. You want it
right?
Ryusei Route: Lefina (Hiriyu Kai Captain... damn she's cute) needs to be
level 38 or above before the end of Scenario 37 (you can finish leveling her
up in this stage).
I think that is it.

So to get the actual final stage in OG1, you just have to be on Hard, right?

I highly doubt it. Nothing in SRW games seems to be fully understood. I've found errors in every FAQ up at gamefaqs, mainly of the type where no one really knew the exact cutoff for a certain requirement and assumed it was more lenient than it really is. Case in point, the faqs only mention kill requirements, hard mode, and blowing up a boss for the Shishio blade in OG1. There actually appears to be a minimum number of battle masteries needed in addition to hard mode and all of the above.
Damn SO are you serious, I thought that was just for what... one of the weapons...
Fuck, I've missed like 6 BMs. Is the last stage really important? Is there some neat stuff going on?
Or is it like the secret ultra boss in Digital Devil Saga where it's just a hard ass boss
If ya really wanna know...
Meteor 3 turns into a giant crystal robot that starts babbling about destroying things that pose a threat to the Balmar empire and starts mass-producing Aerogater units one after another, in waves of increasing power. You blow it up and save the world. Cue modified version of the regular ending.

Boost Darkness Slash's damage some, and I think my best bet for a supporting attack would be Valsione's Cross Smasher.

It's not sooo bad though - it's a nice weapon, but hella expensive to upgrade and so it'll eat into your funds badly.
I love, and yet hate this game. I guess I'll try for it when/if I do Kyosuke's route.

I found that in the hands of Ryusei, it can be stronger than his T-link sword when upgraded some.
You also need to have a very high chunk of the battle masteries, not just enough to be on hard. Found that out the annoying way.
Of course in the Ryusei route, he'll probably spend most of his time in the SRX after a while too. "Have a big lump of metal!"
An original unit has two upgrades in the same game!
Is this like another OG or does it have a bunch of licensed mechs to fuck us over?
The latter. Note the discussion about BGMs from anime series on the first post's quotes.
On the other hand, it doesn't have any absurdly popular licenses so at least it stands a better shot at translation than something using Gainax stuff.

I do not know yet, but as Valzaguardian is about as strong as Genesic GaoGaiGar, I doubt it's much of a choice.

Yea. I got mine on Monday. I saved a bunch of money at the begining of the game then dumped it into Voltron and some money into Sandrock.
