That is what happened in the show. Sven got hurt and couldn't pilot.
He joined the renegades later to still help Voltron out. Princess Alura(?) took his place.

So after finally finishing a playthrough of Ryusei's route in OG1 (that got put aside for OG2) and getting to the bonus stage without really shooting for it (requirements turn out to be much less strict than OG2's), I started up a new game+ in OG2.

Having like 200-300 skill points on Lamia and Kyosuke along with enough money to fully upgrade the Alt and its Revolving Stake from the start makes quite a bit of difference in getting those battle masteries, along with satisfying the requirements for various secrets.

Getting those 55 kills for some of these secrets also gives a ton of skill points on top of what the pilots start with. I had like 250 more skill points sitting on Lamia after she picked up SP Regen, Focus, and Attacker that I was waiting to spend after I got ahold of the Vaisaga. After seeing that all of its attacks are considered melee attacks, I adjusted her stats accordingly. Lamia has gone from simply being really, really good in an AngelG to "Sanger on steroids with boobs" in a ninja mech that can dodge really well.

She also gets to choose from three nice choices of background music now as well.

I'm just using New Game+ as a general term. Technically, it's called a "Normal" game when you load the finished saved file. "Special" is what gets unlocked when you beat EX Hard I believe. But saying that I'm playing a Normal game would just be confusing.

Okay, but the important thing is that if I load my game that I saved after beating the story, I get to start over with a bunch of my PP and cash from the previous playthrough, yes?

    Oh and
I really really loved the last mission. The part where the head-Einst is trying to talk all big and bad at my guys, then the music changes and Kyosuke tells him where to stuff it. That was great. Nearly as good as Sanger's hero-spiel in the Earth Cradle. I mean Kyosuke had the better speech and all, but there's something way more badass about simply interupting the enemy with "Shut up!" and then proceeding to introduce yourself formally, then cleave him in twain.

Yes. You just can't always spend those points right away if the game doesn't let you access a pilot's info screen after a mission. It took a while to be able to train Sanger since he appears and disappears repeatedly a number of times.

Also, Kyosuke and Excellen's endgame theme is really great. My favorite tuns are that one and Ace Attacker W (Seolla/Arado's theme). Dammit, the bonus machines are so much harder to get in this game compared to the first game. ~_~

Lamia's bit in particular is tricky. Am I actually supposed to DESTROY Echidna and then land on her spot in the same turn, or am I supposed to simply chase her off with one character and have Lamia land in that spot in the same turn? I need clarification on this. :(

Doesn't matter if you destroy her or chase her off. What does matter is that you have Lamia land on the spot she was on before the end of the map.

I pretty much missed them all my first time through due to a lack of battle masteries.

Turn doesn't seem to matter, though doing it all in one turn can help make sure you go to the right spot. There's no indication that you've done things right or wrong during the mission itself.

I'm planning to deliberately not use Gigan-Duro whenever there aren't enough slots to deploy everyone this playthrough. Sonnovabitch was my TopAce way more than I like the first time and I had do force him into a support role for several missions to bring Ratsel and Kyosuke above him.

And while I <3 Katina too, I <3 Viletta, Ring and Ibis the most (in that order). I'm pretty sure I got Viletta's secret-gun this time through. I did what the FAQ claims I have to (and man, that mission is actually easier if you let Viletta handle all the non-Randgriths, she is such a badass), so we'll see when I get to mission 15.

I ran into the same problem with Tasuku. He kept getting too many kills. :(

Then again, my strategy always made huge use of anyone with a Chain Attack. This means that Grungust 2, in my eyes, was far superior to Grungust 1 in OG2.

I think there's a small bit about her hooking up the new communicator in the AngelG if you do it right during the dialogue after the mission. Not positive though since I've never failed to do it.
Then again, my strategy always made huge use of anyone with a Chain Attack. This means that Grungust 2, in my eyes, was far superior to Grungust 1 in OG2.

I think I have enough chain attackers on my active roster between SRX/R1, Cybuster, Koryuoh, and Kai's Gespenst (I had enough money to just go ahead and upgrade it without remorse) . . . had I the foresight to look up Vaisaga's attacks, I also could have given Lamia Chain Attack.

In any case, Grungust 1 has one big advantage though over 2 in OG2 for me though: Irm. Irm's ace bonus cuts 15 SP off the cost of Love. So he's getting the effects Strike, Valor, Alert, Gain, Spirit, etc. for a lower cost than Valor alone for some pilots. It's just a bit slow to get him those 50 skills and enough levels to learn Love when other pilots are getting machines far superior to OG1 era stuff.
I'm planning to deliberately not use Gigan-Duro whenever there aren't enough slots to deploy everyone this playthrough. Sonnovabitch was my TopAce way more than I like the first time and I had do force him into a support role for several missions to bring Ratsel and Kyosuke above him.

I never could get the hang of GanDuro in OG2 so Tasaku's always fallen behind. The loss of Sheath Thunder makes my old strategy for him useless until he got enough Will for his new ultimate. I suspect I might get better results if I tossed him into the Huckebein Boxer, but I find his spirit commands too expensive for my tastes regardless.

Kyosuke was the top ace for a long time in my first playthrough until Lamia shot past him due to what happens when she starts getting consistent activations of counters off with enough Will to use Phantom Phoenix. This time, the need to get Bullet 45 kills early on for a Shishioh Blade has made him my top ace. Getting Koryuoh has not helped others to catch up of course.
And while I Katina too, I Viletta, Ring and Ibis the most (in that order). I'm pretty sure I got Viletta's secret-gun this time through. I did what the FAQ claims I have to (and man, that mission is actually easier if you let Viletta handle all the non-Randgriths, she is such a badass), so we'll see when I get to mission 15.

There are more pilots I like than slots to deploy. I love Viletta, but could never fit her in easily since the other pilots with combination attacks or support sets became so useful towards the end of the game. While she can trigger the HTB cannon, the fact that the R-Gun Powered has TK-field, the TK Boomerang requires a psychic, and Mai gets Zeal so she can trigger it twice in a turn means I have to find another mech for Viletta to pilot if I want to use here this go around.

Ibis kind of confuses me however. I've gotten some decent results from her this playthrough as she inherited an M95 of Doom when previous owners migrated to super robots, but anyone does well with that really. But the fact that she naturally has Chain Attack when the Astelion has no Chain Attacks confuses me greatly . . .

Are you sure you're not thinking about combo attack?

I have to agree about Tasuku. The lack of a post-movement attack that has some amount of range, and the fact that he can't move anywhere in the Gigan makes him less than ideal for my usage. Irm, on the other hand, is all kinds of awesome. Unlike Tasuku, the fact that he's just such an immense badass and gets focus means that you can basically put him in anything that has melee abilities and still have him perform well.

My kills generally go from Lamia in the early game to Leona and Latooni from the mid-sections onward. They just draw attention like nobody's business.

But, man, I loves me some special mode. It's basically my little playground to just do crazy things, since with all the items and pilot points and money you get, you don't have to worry about fielding all the combination attackers(I think this last playthrough, the only combo-attackers I had were Latooni and Shine, and the final boss still only took a round, thanks to some energy draining goodness).
Messing around with mech-assignment and not feeling obligated to give everybody attacker really opens up a lot of good times. Excellen in the Wildwurger, anyone? "There's nothing I can't cut."

The thing about Tasuka in Gigan-Duro is that he's essentially indestructible, and has Accel. I would just throw him into the middle of a crowd and let him smash things, then when he got enough will to use his map weapon I'd throw him into another crowd and hit a bunch of shit with that, and by that point he usually had enough will to use Giga-Ughia on everything else until he ran out of EN. That got him way more kills than suits my opinion of who should be top ace.

With the special modes, 3 things always happened when I plays:

    1. God Cybuster - 330+ Evade Masaki, Max Mobility. I don't even bother with focus anymore, just strike. I wanted to give his kills to other pilots too, but max Cyflash + LUCK is just to profitable to pass up.

    2. God Kai - Self Explanatory... Requirement for Gespenst S forced him that way.

    3. Stunning Leona.

Other pilots and mechs's stats get thrown around a bit, but this three always hold true.
