If it wasn't for the Gate of Magus fansite, I probably never would have realized that Tasuku wears a bandana on his forehead. The portraits are quite tiny.
I kinda wish Kyosuke and Excellen didn't wear space helmets in the TV series. They are badasses, they don't need to worry about their mechs rupturing in the void of space! Least Sanger is helmetless and awesome, as always.

Bullet's hair was a surprise, as were nearly all of the uniforms. This is some kinda wierd army, I have to say.
Technically since they use ships for transport, I think this would be more of a navy. That plus much of the roster originally being test pilots for experimental stuff instead of front-line soldiers helps explain goofy uniforms.
Anyway, managed to get ahold of a copy of SRW J. While I can't understand much of it at all, seems rather interesting. As I was starting up, I chose my main character as usual, but I also got to choose my original mech to use (3 were available at the time. Two "Real"s and a "Super".). After that, they actually gave me the option to not only change my character name, but to name the mech and its attacks. Then it went on to a screen of characters, I'm guessing from the various anime placed into the game. Only got to chose three of quite a wide selection (Went with FMP, one I didn't recognize, and Dancouger).
First level starts me off at a school where Mazinkaiser and his lady friend show up to defend against these attacking alien mechs. Gotta say, the animation is twice as better as OG2. I would use a much bigger multiplyer, but the animation is a bit of a downfall as well. It seems that so much detail was put into this that the GBA was worked a little to the limit and there gets to be some occasional slowdown in the animation (So far, the most prominent slowdown is coming from animations that are smoke heavy (missile launching, destruction explosions). Outside of that, Gotta say this looks to be entertaining.
- The list of all the series was the "Favorite List". Units from a favorited series gain more XP and Credits when they destroy an enemy unit and also have lessoned limits for upgrades. Basically, a fully upgraded favorited unit is death, without exception. The money and XP boosts are lessoned for series that have a ton of units (Nadesico and Brain Powerd)
- The robots are Mecha Kaiju, created by insane scientist and main Mazinkaiser bad guy Dr. Hell. You'll never seen them in space and appear pretty much exclusively in Mazinkaiser based stages. A third type resembling a gigantic dragon appears later.
- You'll be able to select your sub-pilot later on from a group of three ladies. Each girl gives a different stat boost and has a different Spirit Command list. The one you use the most effects your upgraded unit's strongest attack. Each unit has three different ones.
- Beat the game three times using a different original for each and you unlock one of the Banbresto Original enemy units. You also get to change your difficulty setting and customize a Spirit Command list for each playthrough.

I haven't been keeping up with the thread much at all in the past couple of months, but is there any news of SRW-W coming to the US DS?
Oh shit, son. Playing SRW J and my main countered an attack by shooting down the fucking missles. Liking this game more and more
Sword Cut and Shoot Down, SRW stand-bys that have always been missing from the OG games for some bizarre reason. Basically characters with mad shooting skills can block missiles and characters with swordsmanship (or in Domon's case, martial arts) can destroy missiles or deflect melee attacks.
That Alt model isn't very hard, but it's pretty intricate. I didn't have any problems putting it together, but it's fragile as hell and it stained my sandpaper red.

Yeah, In J, If I had the Nadesico units in the right Positions, It was nearly impossibly for them to even TOUCH Mazinkaizer or Voltes V or my Original unit.
also the Line map attacks were neat. Like the Nadesico's Line MAP version of the Gravity Blaster, for example.
For Favored series, I went with Mazinger (so Kouji and Sayaka could got good Experience early on.) G Gundam (Oh yes I pimp Domon out.) and Nadesico. (I don't know about you guys, but I think the Aestevalis's are the best Real types EVER.)
I love Viletta, but could never fit her in easily since the other pilots with combination attacks or support sets became so useful towards the end of the game. While she can trigger the HTB cannon, the fact that the R-Gun Powered has TK-field, the TK Boomerang requires a psychic, and Mai gets Zeal so she can trigger it twice in a turn means I have to find another mech for Viletta to pilot if I want to use here this go around.
If you get her secret-gun, the Gespenst-R is perfect for her. All it was missing my first playthrough was a weapon of some sort of supreme nature, and now she has it.

I tend to put that on Gilliam or Leona. Since you NEED to take Gilliam one some end game missions, it helps for him to have a weapon that isn't eaten by beam coats and AB fields.
In any case though, it's not a matter of weapons to go around so much as slots in the party. Unlike in OG1, OG2 has a damn lot more pilots worth using than it does slots for them outside of the route split missions.
I've been switching between Alpha 3 and J when I could find the time. I was wondering if anyone had a site or know of anywhere to get translations for parts in @3 and J
One question: How were you able to upgrade to that much damage in R-Formation? Mine only goes up to 8166..
Are you playing OG1 or OG2 right now? Because that 8k sounds about right for OG1, but in OG2 all the weapons do more damage period so they crank it up all the way to 11k damage when you fully upgrade the R-Series.
Then again, it's been a couple of months so I may be completely misremembering things.
I do know I like spamming the ever-living goodness out of the HYPER TRONIUM BUSTER CANNON myself.

I'm on OG2, I know why Rampage Ghost isn't doing 10200 dmg, but I don't know why R-Formation isn't doing the 11093 dmg. All I fully upgraded was T-Link Knuckle, Hi Zol Launcher, and Strike Shields.

I wasted a lot of money the the R-Series. that and having SP Regen on all 3 of them helped. and this was againt low armor bosses like Atad and Ingram's basic R-gun.
But I topped myself with my 19kish TK Burst Slashes on Judecca.

Wow wow wow, they actually made variable Getter Robo, with all three combinations? Holy fudge, surely the Japanese model makers are gods among men.
