Tasaku's high defense and Giganscudo's high defense plus ranged weapons make it ideal for sending into a pack of enemies and counterattacking all of them with Gigablaster. It's a very different super robot from most.
In my very, very limited experience, Giganscudo doesn't have enough movement range to quickly dive into a pack of enemies.
I mean, I'm not denying his giant shield potential, but he's never exactly been first into the fray. I tend to leave that sort of thing to the speedy dodgers.
I've never used Giganscudo, Tasuku, or Russel at all. Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
I only just finished SRT:OG for the GBA yesterday, so I'm not an expert.
In my opinion: not really. As long as you beat the game, you're OK. Of course, I don't much care about Battle Masteries or jumping through complicated hoops to get all the best stuff. I'm not that much of a completionist.
Personally, I mostly just used Tasuku to get the Guarlion, beat on bosses and Support defend my less sturdy giant robots and I used Russel as my repair guy, since he has some useful Spirit abilities.
I've never used Giganscudo, Tasuku, or Russel at all. Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
that reminds me, has Patlabor been in SRW yet?
Nope.
Now that would be funny, considering Patlabor is the purest Real Robot show out there. Hooray for smacking labors with the riot gun and getting scared when bullets come out.
Seriously though, upgrade Russel's Gespenst's armor, and eventually throw a Cobham Armor on him, give him some sort of decent rifle for counter-attacks, and put him next to somebody who needs defense. You won't even need Guard except against Zankantou and Kirin.
Ryoto's better than all of them. Zeal. and he gets something way better than the Gan-Duro in OG2.
Ryoto's pretty useless outside of the regular Huck 3. And frankly Leona's better. More to the point he's not capable of making other characters invincible at little to no expense. And we've already been over how Kyosuke and Excellen aren't actually worthless, you just don't like them. As stated, Rampage Ghost is the most powerful attack in either OG game, and in OG1 Kyosuke has Valor and Fury to slap on top of it, and Ms. Browning has her "Love-Power" in both, and levels easily.
But frankly the game is set up such that the characters you personally like most will almost invariably end up being your best characters. Mine usually end up being the ATX team, Ratsel and Sanger, Leona, Viletta, Irm (Ring whenever she's available, too), Masaki, SRX team, Gilliam, and either the Hiryu or the Kurogane in that order.
Edit: Also I never like Zeal enough to justify sacrificing a Valor, except with Gilliam. And to use the HTB four times, but that's more just for the sake of itself than part of any strategy I come up with. I'm generally content to wait a turn to finish things, particularly since I've got Russel and Tasuka to make any plot-target characters on my team invincible (Sanger on maps with Wodan, Kyosuke on maps with Axel, etc).

Ryoto good at pecking things. Being able to zeal and throw up both a Energy Drain and a maxed out M95 attack? yes please. it's even better in OG2, where the Gunner Frame is very good at doing decent damage while also being very difficult to hit. the Gunner Frame is one of those units that get overlooked a lot, like the Huck MK. II

Ryoto gets shot down if I let him peck at things in anything other than the Huck 3. Unless I put Russel next to him, anyway. I'd rather keep that however many thousand bucks to upgrade Revolver Stake and Oxtongue B, to build a better Rampage Ghost.
Edit: I stand by my edit. The way the game is built, your favorite characters will invariably be your best.
Well, what if you upgrade the Gunner Frame's mobility and throw on a Hyper Jammer for good measure? Hell, I make a ton of odd choices, I don't HTB spam with the SRX either. I go in close and I still use Nendoh Bakusai Ken. I let the Gunner Frame and other units do the long range shooting.
My overarching strategy is to take away as large a percent of the total enemy HP per turn as possible without losing any mechs or using SP for anything but bosses (or like, six one-shots split between Revolver Stake and Claymore during a counter-attack phase. When you one-shot people, Will climbs fast. I generally have Claymore before the second turn, and Trump Card by the third or fourth). And if I have someone fast and super-dodge with a resupply-module I can spam Rampage Ghost, though normally it kills the EN supply of both Weiss and Alt after like three shots. Of course, in OG1 at least (frankly I liked OG1 better, it was less bullshit-frustrating and more just challenging, until you learn the system anyway) only a couple bosses can take three Valored Rampage Ghosts with everyone else shooting at them at the same time.
That makes sense, I tend to do kind of the same thing, just with different units, pre-SRX I used R-Formation a LOT. and I used much of your same tatics for building will, except with the R-Seires. Ryusei could go into R-wing and pick off some weak enemies with the Revolver cannons. Rai could Beam Chakram some. and Aya could of course use Laser Cannon. this is just until they built up their slightly bigger attacks, like T-link Knuckle, Hi-Zol Launcher and Strike shields. they'd use these ti kill off strong enemies. (Ex, I used to weaker attacks for example, on stuff like megilots/Yelmechs/Michlei's while saving the bigger stuff for Zachriahs and Haubaukks.) On any Given boss, I try and set up large R-Formation chains.
After SRX I kinda do the same thing, except with Bladekick/DominionBall/Muteigiri leading u to Nendoh Bukusai Ken for bosses.
So, i was just looking at my shelf with my model and stuff on it, and saw my weiss model next to my jetfire transformer. Why have they never put transformers in a SRW game? That would kick like 10 kinds of ass
I am no expert on this topic at all.
However, my guess is it's because Japanese licensing/copyright laws are way more flexible than US ones.
Option 2 is that Transformers just aren't that popular in Japan, but I wouldn't really know about that.
Well, Takara owns the Transformers rights in Japan, while Bandai owns SRW. The two companies are big rivals(like, Coca-Cola/Pepsi-level), so that's why we'll probably never see TF in a SRW game. Also why we'll probably never see any Zoids or the older non-Gaogaigar Yuusha series, as I'm fairly certain Takara owns those ones, too
I've never used Giganscudo, Tasuku, or Russel at all. Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
that reminds me, has Patlabor been in SRW yet?
Nope.
Now that would be funny, considering Patlabor is the purest Real Robot show out there. Hooray for smacking labors with the riot gun and getting scared when bullets come out.
Genetically enhanced people aside, you forgot about VOTOMS.
Also, if it's one thing Ryoto's useful for (AND IT'S SOMETHING I ALWAYS FORGET TO BRING HIM OUT FOR), it's Mercy. Best thing to use when trying to bring someone's HP down as low as possible.
I found it funny how crucial EN Takers were in OG1, yet... In OG2, I hardly needed them at all. Team Attacks tend to ignore barriers, which is what most of my strongest moves are. Instead, my most important utility weapons were the Stun Shot and Armor Breaker. I'd position everyone around Big Bad Boss and start up with Stun Shot, then crack the bastard's shell with Armor Breaker. Naturally, I'd have Leona and Rai handle this, due to having Fury. After which, I'd blast away with everything I had, powered up to near max Will from the second turn or so via Rouse. It's really quite effective. Resupply was VERY important, along with Enable. That, along with SP Drinks, Fuel Tanks, and Hope, is how I managed to fire the HTB Cannon nearly 10 times in a turn. I should really try counting next time. I lost track. >.>
Quite a few attacks in OGS have been given a "Half-ignore barriers" modifier. To balance that, the best EN Drainers shave off 50 EN, so pretty much worthless now.
I have about 30 songs from the game, including most of the new themes. I've started uploading the package, but it's going to take some time. I'll post a link when it's done.

So, we have to use the @3 strtegy of. "Just hit bosses really really hard" I remember this one Baff Clan battleship I had to blow like everything to deal with it's shield and get enough damage to kill it. Managed to finish the job with a Hot Blood powered Goldion Hammer.
Here we go, 27 songs. Keep the link to PA only. I do think it's not against the rules to post this, though I'll take it down if it is.

Thank god for akurasu.net. The OGS Wiki section got updated with info on what the custom ammo parts do. Yes. You can create your own ammo in this. It's really nifty!
So after watching all these video's I think I need to play this. How hard is it to figure out whats doing on and get into? I've played a few imports but never a game like this.

It's actually decently simple once you figure out what all of the commands are. There's usually translation guides for that. Atlus has translated Original Generations 1 and 2 when they came out individually for the GBA so that could help you as well and are definitely suggested play regardless. Even though This PS2 game contains the same games, it's been practically rebuilt from the ground up with a few story changes.
I love the Seishin improvements. OGs has Invincible. Nuff said.
I just wish they went ahead and added Courage from @3. Love is good too, but I wanna be able to Valor, Spirit, Invincible and Fury. and some of the stuff Love gives, like Accel.
I mean it kinda sucks you have to pay it's cost on two pilots, but on the other hand, it's fucking SOUL. We could potentially see some crazy @3 numbers for damage now. HTB might actually get close to Banprieos or dare I say it, Ideon Numbers. At the least, It will enter Goldion Crusher teritory.
Ryoto isn't horrible, it's more that he's outclassed most of the time. Leona, Viletta, and a lot of other pilots are better real pilots. In OG2, Ryoto has better melee than ranged by a slight amount so the boxer suits him better, but then again Tasuku might do even better in it if you upgraded its monstrous armor (it caps out higher than Ganduro's armor).
I do like some of the gunner's weapons, but between Weissritter, AngelG/Ashsaber, the Graviton Cannon, Randgrith, Genspenst, Valsione, Aussenritter, R-Gun, and more I probably am forgetting, I think I've got sniping platforms covered without having to use two pilot slots.

It's mostly an "I like Ryoto's character from a story prespective" thing. I just really dislike Katina and a lot of those other secondary pilots, I have nothing against Leona, but she was cooler when she pimped the blue Valsion Custom. in OG1 Ryoto was one of the best pilots for the 009 once Aya gets the R-3. the 009, with it's Remote Slasher upgraded and a load of Energy Drains and also making it a resupply bot, makes the fact he has Zeal shine. so he could replen someone and then go do something else. like launch an Energy Drain or let loose his Remote Slasher. and that's what I think the Gunner excels at too, being a Support attack base and a restock node.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9VImGdjXj8 Again, putting Excellen in something other than her Weissy proves hilarious. This needs no translation.

That did indeed prove to be enough to be terribly amused by this little vid. :P
Right. That too. It basically means "Fool, idiot, stupid, etc."

"Let's pretend the enemy is Kyosuke!"
"Stupid, stupid, stupid Kyosuke!"
I believe the same or similar text showed up in OG2 for the GBA, too, when you put Excellen in the Huck Boxer...
Basically she's saying "let's pretend the enemy is Kyosuke when he's being stubborn. Stupid, stupid, stupid idiot Kyosuke!"
Another outburst over Kyosuke's lack of a basic romantic side.
Excellen at least got better translations for her puns compared to the Nadesico pilot that gave the ADV translators fits.
