Kinda Lame: Raid leader DK tank hateration. RL says he "always prefers a prot warrior to tank bosses over a DK." Really?
Hey me too!
Actually last night at Patchwerk after me MTing the place all night the RL says, OK Warrior will be taking the Hateful strikes for this. I ask why to which I get a "you always have your best tank take the Hatefuls"
At that point BOTH the warrior and I look at him and remind him of the fact that I have 5k more HP than the warrior, more Armor, and am better geared overall, the warrior just has that extra 20% to block.
I then proceed to tank the hatefuls and don't drop below 50% the entire fight. FU raid leader.

Happy:
logging in last night to apply some nice glyphs and get some more exp.
Then logging back out to eat supper with the wife.
Then logging back in in Taunka'le taking three steps and going "Hey theres a dude in an ornithopter." <mouseover> "Elite?" <click> "Rare! But I'll never reach it! I'm a paladin."
"OH wait! Judgment has worthwhile range now!"
Annoyance: He dropped a leather chestpiece of the Necromancer.
KHAAAAAAN: On a Wrath trial still, so 70.9999 is as high as I can go.
Happy: Ran 10 man Naxx last night and I got the ring off of the first spider boss.
Meh: We then went to plague wing. I knew ahead of time that I wouldn't like Heigan, and I don't. I think our best shot was getting him to 70%. Oh well. There is a reason I don't raid much.
Edit: I just remembered, funny coincidence: The MT and I looked exactly the same, except for our shoulders and hair color.
It is a decent DPS weapon, yes, but expertise does so much more for tanking. It would be replaced by something else for melee DPS, but as a DK tank, it would be impossible to replace that weapon right now.
If Betrayer drops tonight I will strangle the guy.

It's a good dps upgrade for a DPS DK, and who says he won't also tank in the future?

Yep, I used defeat to dps till I went to betrayer. Defeat is now enchanted with gargoyle enchant...
Dude, no. You don't justify taking my best in slot for a slight upgrade just because you might tank in the future. I geared up to this point doing what I am doing from the ground up. And it was a pain in the ass. In my eyes that would be rolling for offspec, which generally has to yield to main spec rolls first. I am using rep boots now, but I pass on sweet boots that have block on them that would be an upgrade over what I have, because... *gasp* ...they would better serve another player.
Was the item awarded according to your run's pre-established loot rules?
Was it a pug?
If either answer is yes, and especially if both are, I'm not sure you can really complain past the typical, 'Damn I wanted that item bad' kind of deal.

You didn't tell us what he had before, we have no idea if it's a slight upgrade. The design of that mace is certainly not focused just on tanking, plus he may not have known it was best in slot for you, plus I don't know that it matters that it's best in slot, if for example he was using the Runeblade of Demonstrable Power.
Same thing could have happened to me. It didn't, thank god. But, the last poster is correct. If the item was awarded following the loot system agreed on beforehand, you can't really complain...
With a caveat. Even if the loot rules allow you to take a piece of loot over someone whom it would help a great deal more (and benefit the raid as a whole more because of it), you should really pass to them. Thankfully my guildies are not whores, so they (2 dps that could have taken it) passed to me when ID dropped. They, of course, first pretended to bid to make me sweat.
So, complain about the person being selfish, but nothing else, I guess? Aw, fuck it. That sucks.
There are mitigating circumstances with ID, too. It's a trash drop, so who the hell knows if you'll ever see it again, and there are a multitude of weapons that drop in the place that are very close/better for DPS (jawbone, betrayer, I think even Cryptfiend's Bite in 10-man), whereas ID is at least 20% better than anything else in the game for DK tanking.
Happy: Decided to dust of my paladin and get him to 80, currently at 78. The urge to tank has gotten only stronger with time, and it's something my Mage just can't do.
Hate: Leveling up blacksmithing from scratch. Stuck in the steel/mithril levels where all the stuff on the AH is absurdly overpriced. When I find iron for less than a gold per ore/bar, it's a GOOD day
Ah it just sucks when you try to be a gent in pugs and roll with awareness as to what would help which person the best. I passed on alot of slight tank upgrades for me, because the warrior I was with was in alot of blues. This mentaility is all spoiled by people that get a boner just from looking at anything with a slightly purple coloration.
Yes pugs suck. But hey, when your guild is still small and only doing 10 mans, what can ya do? I'm not too butthurt about it, but there are just so many Death Knights that just assume that if the item is equippable, doesnt have spell power on it, is plate, has higer iLVL, then it is an upgrade. Fuck those guys. Read some shit, learn what stats are the best, and itemize for those. Keep your peen under control when purple shit drops.
I really don't see the problem here. Its a pug so I would assume its free rolls and though its not mentioned I assume the DK has either a blue or a 187 dps weapon in which case ID is a huge upgrade for him. Also the comparison to a item with block doesn't work as a DK tank won't ever use the block, the same can't be said with ID as all the stats help the dps DK.

I agree, and kudos to you for sticking to your morals. I certainly let items go to folks better suited to benefit from them. However, I don't expect it to happen in pugs, just so I'm not disappointed.
I feel better now. I just needed validation I think. The good news is the RL and the other tanks recognized that I was being a good sport about passing on stuff that would help someone else more than me, and I will probably get invited next week, the rolltard... probably not so much.
I'm not one of those people who's negative about it, but I'm pretty mercenary in pugs, especially raids. Far as I'm concerned it's free rolls and if it's an upgrade, I'm going after it.

I used to think that way until I realized no one followed the same ideas. Its a shame really, one raid I passed on 3-4 items to another dps DK since they were really a large upgrade for him.
Up comes 3-4 large upgrades to me, he wins them all. So...
Can I use it? Is it somewhat of an upgrade? /random
Ah see, it's easy to butter up the other tank guys, you only have to worry about one or two. I'm usually able to strike some kind of an I scratch your back you scratch mine type of deal. I would imagine this would be impossible if I was melee dps trying to strike ANY kind of understanding with pug melee. Most come to a raid expecting freebies, contributions to the raid are optional. If I weren't a tank I would be much more cutthroat. I don't pull punches for tokens though. It's hard enough being on a token with 3 at one time or another major FOTM classes. And mages.
Anybody that expects even the smallest amount of reason and generosity in an online game is preparing themself for a rude awakening the moment they try to pug anything, or even sometimes in their own guild. The large number of spoiled little kids that play WoW is the beginning of the problem; the ones that have never been told "no" before in their lives and expect to afk their way through a full Naxx clear and win everything. The other problem is the aholes that know that it is just an online game and there is little to no chance of any sort of backlash for their actions, and thus think nothing of other and only themselves.
People seem unable to grasp simple mathematics sometimes too. If an item drops that a few people in the raid want I'm sorry to inform you that not every single one of you can get it. Bitching in tells about it afterwards is going to put you lower on priority than the other person that sucked up the loss and just typed "grats" in raid chat. It's not like these things will never, ever drop again.
And since it is this thread:
Hope: Everything is cleared for the week so I should finally be able to finish the last 30% of level 79 on my DK tonight and start joining alt Naxx runs. I've literally gone the first 70% of this level doing nothing but Oracles/Wintergrasp/JC dailies due to a lack of time. Also I don't understand the hatred for trolls in this game; this troll DK is the most amazing looking character ever. Their two handed and dual wield stances are both awesome.
Happiness: Found a decent 25 man Naxx pug last night. Cleared 2 wings last night and going back in tonight to finish some more.
Kinda Lame: Raid leader DK tank hateration. RL says he "always prefers a prot warrior to tank bosses over a DK." Really?
Pretty cool: Inevitable Defeat dropped.
KHAAAAAAAAN: Went to a DPS DK. (I REED FORUMS DIS IS GUD DK DEEPS WEPUN RITE GUISE?)
Oh well: I have Death's Bite to hold me over until ID drops next time.
Hope: Tanking Boots and Sand-Worn Band drop tonight. I would also like Vanquisher pants and/or helm to drop so I can get 4/5.
Also Hope: Some good rolls tonight.
A good DK tank is pretty awesome, especially since we don't have to listen to him whine because someones ass is in front of the wall just slightly and COME ON GUYS CASTERRRRRRRRRRS ;_;
Hope: My guild can kill grob in naxx 10 some time before the next expansion drops...
Should be an easy fight if people can keep the clouds out of the group. Just tends to be a cockblock if you have people standing inside clouds.
Grob 10 is actually one of the tigher DPS fights in Naxx. That's not saying much for people who are well geared, but there it is. Especially if you run three healers, undergeared/underskilled dps can make that fight tough.

This is true. I think this is pretty much where all pugs that would fail do fail.
