XBOX360 red lights of death

So, my fiancee bought me a 360 for my birthday in May. I played Oblivion non-stop for about two weeks. A month later, I played FN:3 pretty solidly for about two weeks. Then WoW took my life back, and I didn't really play it until I got GOW. I beat the game in two evenings, then I wanted to start the next difficulty two days later and got the 3 red lights of death.

I went through all the trouble-shooting on the website. No good.

I went through the same TS from a robot on the phone. No good.

I went through the -same- TS from a person on the phone. No good.

So she informs me that my 3 month warranty is expired and that I should just send them the console and $130 to have it repaired.

I'll say this now: there is no way in hell I'm sending M$ $130 six months after I bought a console that I only played for two 2-week periods. It seems to me that this is obviously a manufacturer defect, but I didn't play it enough to fit into their three month window.

My question is, is there anything I can do other than hating M$ forever, glancing worriedly at Sony, and buying a Wii?

I find it confusing that you're willing to shell out $250 for a system you have no games for, but not $130 for a system you do have games for.

Although maybe you could sell it.

There's probably nothing else you can do. If it broke right after you receieved the latest dashboard update, you could call them and take that angle...

I've never used it online, but if you're referring to the update off of the GOW CD, that could be something.

It's less about $250 for a gameless console and $130 for the one I have games for, but more another $130 for a system that should be covered under warranty. Even though I didn't play it much, it should have at least a one year warranty, if not 6 months.

So I went to Gamestop to talk to them about it. It looks like I could trade in the dead system for $60, the HD for $60, my games for $63, and get my $65 back from the Halo 3 preorder. If I bought a Wii, they would give me 20% extra trade on all but the system which would be $25. That comes to $273 which covers a Wii with tax. So, I'm looking at dump the Halo preorder and pay $65 to repair my 360. Or dump all of it, pay $50 dollars and have the Wii and a game. I'm starting to lean that way. Washing my hands of M$ doesn't sound too bad.

    Check your fiancé's credit-card agreement.

A lot of cards extend the manufacturer's warranty (I know mine doubles it). If they do, they should cover it.

Also, I know if it's because of a "known fault" then they have to repair for free (at least for Canadians) as theres laws about that shit up here.
