Help me, how do I beat orcs+warboss as a Hive Tyrant? My hormagaunts get slaughtered by his early units, and in an even fight (boss+boys vs tyrant+hormagaunts) he seems to win as well. By the time I have a warrior squad with strangler out he owns the map and outnumbers me 3 to 2.
The key is avoiding the waaagh. Slugga squads are slightly more expensive than hormagaunts, but hormagaunts backed up by warriors will beat them 1v1 if there is no waaagh.
Listen for the ability when you move in to a fight. Try to feint in to make him use it early. If you get even a little bit of distance on his sluggas, they won't be able to catch up to your hormagaunts. As soon as it wears off, jump him.
As usual for Tyranids, you're going to have to fight a hit-and-run battle in T1. Until you get adrenal warriors up, your hormagaunts will have very close fights with the orks. Which, since they gain XP and you don't, is only to your advantage if you're able to kill squads.
If you manage to get through his early-game advantage without losing too much, the game will swing in your favor. Ork T2 won't make a dent in your advantage. Loota squads are just crappy devastator/shuriken cannons with AT that won't affect you, deff dreds and wartrukks will get slaughtered by your warriors.
By the time the game hits T3, you should be controlling the game. If you aren't, the nob squad is going to hurt. Those guys don't have big AoE attacks, so I find the way to take them down is to swarm them with hormagaunts backed up by shootie mans. A couple of lictors can fuck with them too. If you do get a carnifex, give it a venom cannon and put it well behind the hormagaunts, because those clubs will turn it into biomass paste.
Fighting orks is all about surviving T1 to control T2. Avoid losing units, cost him as much req. as he costs you, and keep him from dominating the map. Remember that if you get driven off the map by a waaagh attack, you have a one-minute window (soon to be 90 seconds) where you can attack without fear. If you can bounce back and forth for the duration of T1, you'll go into T2 in a strong position.
Also, spore mines are pretty fucking douchey, but if your opponent is just massing slugga squads and attack-moving, make him pay.
Edit: Holy hell is it just me or does like 50% of the PA people posting in this thread play nids?
I think you're seeing a biased sampling, or something. 'nids have been relatively uncommon throughout the game, including in the 3v3 PA teams I've joined.
Limed for truth, he's loads of fun to use but horrible to play against.
I hate him because he looks like he should be wearing expensive sunglasses, gold jewelry, and a hawaiian shirt and driving a red Mustang convertable with the top down.

Do Tyranids have genestealers? I hope they do, I never really liked that they keep on being phased out in the fluff for more gaunt type things. Tyranids to me will always be the classic Warrior, Genestealer, Carnifex flavor.

No. You can check out the dawnofwar2.com page for full unit listings.
Would it be possible to play with you guys here despite m enot having vent, or a mic? after the 5th afk host and 3rd game that froze before it began im a little tired of trying my luck in public games:x
Can either of you give me an idea of how far along the netcode is? After researching my problem and testing, we determined the reason I can't play 6 man games is because if I try to talk using Vent, DoW2 freaks out and can't keep the packets in sync anymore. I'm guessing the other people on the beta forum that have this problem are suing Vent or TS and having a similar issue.
My connection is 768/128 (yeah the upload is kinda low but it's never been an issue before) and my Vent at the most takes up 5K/sec. I turned off the firewall, knocked all my settings down to low, and made sure the ports were forwarded. Once I stopped trying to use Vent once I guessed it might be the netcode not ebing able to stayign in sync, my ridiculous 9000 pings stayed at the normal 100-500 ranges (depending on where in the world the players are). Things worked great until I pushed my PTT key accidentally and then it all went to hell again.
So, if you can give me any sort of info on how far along the netcode is I'd appreciate it.

You don't need a mic for vent, you can still listen to what the rest of us are saying. It's really really useful for putting together games. Hop into a channel, put 'looking for a 3v' in your comment, and someone will be along before too long.
I could be the worst player in the world at this game but I think I am finally understanding the strategy of this game. I played a game today where we did lose but I was doing a lot better then i had done in the past.
I am really looking forward to the range damage nerf i am just not quick enough to follow all my units

The warlock and farseer are pretty cool dudes, even if I dont play them as much as SM. Fuck the exarch though.

That should be his final armor tier.
Actually a very good game which you guys should check out. Kudos to Astns for a very effective Tyranid play.
Have at it, lads.

Verily t'was an epic battle and well fought.
Download it for great justice
As an aside:
DoA this is an intervention, you can't deny it any longer.
You have become rather good with the Eldar.
The warp spider exarch looks like a douchebag going through a mid-life crisis. That is not awesome.
Fuck the warp spider.
And you expect anything else from a space elf?

I, on the other hand, am having a lot more fun with ladder matches now that I'm not facing a TS 30 75% of the time.
It's free, you can get it here: http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
server info is in the sticky at the top of this forum, it's the server all the way at the top
I'll take a game after Dr. Tongue. admanb on Steam, admanjb on GFWL.

I don't know if you mean that one but I mean that one.
OK, that is just weird. My sympathies.
I saw it kill an entire squad of...either Scouts or Guardians once. I think it's highly randomized.
It was a really good game too
