Guitar Hero. Lots of people used to like it, not so much now. Anyway, Bashing may be fun and all, but don't do it. And don't mention that I used to do it all the time, because I won't anymore, ok? I promise.
Guitar Hero: World Tour
(the world's first COMPLETE BAND GAME)
The instruments
The Guitar
New features include a larger star power button that looks like the bridge and a touch sensitive strip that can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
1. Tapping out solos (if the notes are connected with a purple rope).
2. Slap-bass style strumming.
3. Adding effects to sustains (not clear on this one).
And lastly, the neck is still detachable, but the connection is now supposedly rock solid.
The Bass
No dedicated instrument, but the Bass hasn't been totally neglected (unlike in some OTHER game...)
There is an open note now, represented by a purple line (just like the bass pedal for drums). It functions like any other note, except you just let go of every button to hit it. It can also be a HOPO.
The Mic
No picture needed really, it looks like a regular usb mic with the GH logo on it.
Vox plays a lot like RB. Talkies are present (there's even a beginner mode that makes everything a talkie) and your streak is based on phrases. The ending percentage is based on individual words, however.
You can activate star power at any time by shaking the microphone vigorously.
Also of note are freestyle sections where you can earn points for saying things to pump up the crowd.
The Drums
As you can see, it features one pedal, 3 pads, and 2 cymbals. They're velocity sensitive and feel very bouncy, from what I've heard. You can activate star power at any time by hitting both cymbals.
But wait! If it has 5 pads, and the RB drums have 4, however will they work together?!
Well, if you play WT using the RB drums it will remove one note track and adjust accordingly.
When using Rock Band's drum controller, which has one less percussion pad than the World Tour unit ("Rock Band" has four drum pads, "World Tour" has three drum pads and two cymbal pads), two of the lanes on the "World Tour" drum board will merge, reducing the note track to four drum pads and bass pedal.
My drums are broken! Whatever will I do?!

Pages are up for World Tour (

So there you go. This thread isn't just for WT, though. Feel free to whine about how you can't beat the devil/Raining Blood or advice on how to play.

Shit. That's a pretty fabulous deal. Too bad I kinda can't stand the guitar, and I have two RB2 Strats. Now if the game itself was on sale, that'd be one thing...
I could always try to convince my mom to get it for PS3, since she loves Rock Band. *shrug*
Anywho, I keep wondering why the war between fisher price music games is almost as fierce as the console war is to many.
There is value to both games, and both do things well, and both have things they do wrong. Meh, I enjoy both of them for varying reasons. Now with controller compatibility, it shouldn't be much of an issue to own both.

Because people want to back the 'winner'. And they'll go so far as to use arbitrary and nonsensical arguments to do so. I have no problems with both existing on the market, but I do have concerns that the Activision method of game production (i.e. carpet bombing) might just salt the earth for everybody else.

As much as I have been enjoying GH: WT, I fear you are correct. It is getting to the point that adding more to the already large music genre pile can do nothing but harm the genre as a whole. And even though Harmonix is starting to do the spin off business, they have nothing on Activision, who seem to think that spin offs are what the industry is all about.
So far though, I'm not buying into the spin off game arena, as I'm content with the periodic dlc, which Harmonix supports fantastically and Activision has done really well with lately.
The Beatles may be the first time I'll take the spin-off plunge.
Oh, and yay for Old Time Rock & Roll! I love that song.

I really don't like the guitar much, other than the tactile feedback of a "click" when you strum. I much prefer the fretboard button layout that RB has. But yah, to be completely fair, there's not much "wrong" with GH, I just prefer RB far more. *shrug*
Thanks, asshole. You just convinced me to buy GH:WT.
New Slang, Drive, Hi Hi Hi, fucking Jet?!
Note span isn't nearly as bad in WT than in GH3. And you can change the backgrounds via the instrument creator in character creation, though only from selecting from different premade ones.
You must have missed this guy (spoilered due to multiple Youtube links):

It is, and IMO it's better.
Then again, I hate Oasis. But oddly enough, whenever someone covers their songs, I realize I probably just hate their singer.

I haven't heard it, but I have a good feeling you and I both can agree that the only cover of "Wonderwall" that should be put in any music game is Charlie Pace's.

Good Vibrations (you get halfway through the song then fail out )
So I bought some games and then I started up GH and tried to enter the "music store" only to be told that I couldn't do that with my current user name. Appearantly, I need to change it and try again? What am I missing here? Is it my Mii name or my band name or what? Do I need to register somewhere online? Why can I shop for games, but not music?
I would buy GH:WT for that alone.

Also, the guitar is uncomfortably heavy. It's like it's made of pure metal.

I've played it. The guitar is heavy and thick, the buttons are sticky. The presentation is terrible. The on screen still split screens even if only one person is playing, like it's DDR or something. It's just....ugh. Everything about it is awful. And I didn't even mention how bad 90% of the music is.
My big hold up of these games, meaning both GHWT and RB is the DLC. I feel like I'm missing out on a lot because I don't want to spend extra money on tracks. I have only the free tracks for GH3 and it's holding me back from enjoying the three "band" games. There's so much emphasis on something I don't want to buy that it's just a turn off.
Buuuuttt, is that 79 dollar deal from Target still going on? I just looked at their website and it was 189.99.
Here's the 360 link.
Here's the PS3 link.
The page says it's available online AND in-store, so... yay!
Hahaha, I used to play these text adventures on my old computer all the time when I was a kid.

Now to bust out the mic and boot up Born To Run again...
Kinda sucks balls in my opinion. I particularly hate how they use "Ride the Lightning" as some sort of clever reference in their press release but THE FUCKING SONG IS NOT IN THE GAME.
I put Guitar Hero III in my 360 for the first time ever tonight, and now suddenly my 2 Xplorers that have been working fine with GHII and RB suddenly don't work at all. For anything. The buttons just act like they are being mashed constantly. Even just at the dashboard. I have had them both since GHII came out, so it looks like no RMA or anything is possible.
Anyone know what's up?
