Run your hand across it - does it feel smooth you can you feel a crack in it? 'Cos if you can, warranty's your best bet.
Frankly, I had a bitch of a time mailing my drumkit back just based on trying to find packaging large enough for it. Ended up grabbing 2 boxes, cutting them both up awkwardly and taping them together with a lot of packing tape.
Someone here had a really good suggestion for how to fix it though if you don't give a rats arse about warranty or if you're outside it. I'll see if I can find it.
Seriously though, the warranty process for the main body is pretty sweet. You get an extra mic, another kick pedal and 2 cymbals along with the body + the stand and another pair of drumsticks. Extra stuff = eBay bait!
Edit: Found it. W2 on the second post of Page 66 in reply to my drum problems.
Red pad can be a pretty easy fix, if you find yourself broken and out of warranty (like I did, yesterday). Just take the back off (about two dozen screws? I dunno, there's a bunch, just Philips head.) and re-solder the wires to the Piezo switch.
Ten minutes of turning screws and about five with the soldering iron and it works again, good as new.
Obviously the green pad comes under the same rules. Also try youtubeing "World Tour Drum Green Pad Repairs" or some such. There'll most likely be quite a few helpful videos.
Live update: According to my mate, 2 or so weeks for Live and the headset to arrive. On a side note, I'm also gonna grab Rock Band soon so....should I like, stab myself in the face or something as an act of repentance?
Also: two weeks? Seriously? God damnit. I Wanna Rock, already!
And really buying RB warrants a high five more than face-stabbing, unless you've put your life's savings into Activision stock or something
Indeed. Could be earlier, but I wouldn't put much faith in it. It is eBay after all.
Ok, good. I was wondering if Rock Band was shunned or something in this thread, glad to see my assumptions were proven incorrect.
Reply to the last post: A small amount of bumpiness is fine, you should be able to feel it on the other pads and tell if it's normal compared to. However, if it's cracked there should be a pretty apparent line where it seems to drop off or get higher or some such.
The main question is: Are you still inside the warranty period?
I think what is shunned in this thread is more like:
"suck it GH fanbois, HMX is my chosen deity ololololol taste the rainbow".
But yeah, there are quite a few things GH does better (music selections...well sometimes).
I think the big reason why the GH brand has rubbed me the wrong way is the whole dilution of the franchise. It has gotten so out of control that they don't have one team dedicated to the franchise any longer. That's why sporadic charting is starting to show up (Smash Hits). If it was just one team, then at least it would be consistent. Instead, it's just a giant clusterfuck.
The whole not being able to import tracks is just rubbing salt into the wound. It effectively marginalizes who you can play the game with. On top of that, the core gameplay itself isn't changing with each successive version.
At the end of the day I just hate what Activision has done with the franchise. I know why they're doing it, and I choose to not support their whoring out of their top franchise. However, I'm not stopping anyone else from enjoying the games.

Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero are allowing you to import the World Tour tracks.
No news on the other games, but it's a start. I concur though with you and pretty much everyone else about Smash Hits: It shoulda just been DLC or at LEAST forward compatible with future GH series. WTF is the point of bringing back old songs when they're just gonna be left in the dust again?
Other than that, all valid points. Still, I enjoy the games and thank you for not trying to belittle my fun.

Will Band Hero songs be importable to GH5 though?

Not a clue on this one, sorry. :?
I'm guessing not as to try and make the games more 'separate'.
Zimfan, it's a year in most cases unless you spend extra to get a 3 year warranty. I was never A: Offered the option and B: Wouldn't do it anyway, the extra long warranty is probably more expensive than it would be the buy the same guitar a year down the track. Especially the way the things are practically being given out now.
Edit: Live update, my eBayer changed his mind and I'll probably have the code by this friday. Yay! While it may not impact our Live-ing, my mate broke my warranty'd guitar, so now I have to ship that back again....Seriously, 3 weeks I had that thing before it broke!
Though to be fair, Activision's really starting to make the Hero visuals less hideous. Any hideousness in this image is largely the fault of the actual Taylor Swift.

Huh. Taylor Swift actually looks prettier in Guitar Hero than in that comparison picture. Well done Activision. *Claps*
Glithert: Um....I can't remember. I recall two people offering, I just don't remember names...ARG. Also, can I get peoples Xbox Live names so I can add you before I grab the account? I can still have friends on Silver. :P
Mine's just Schide. Glithert and I played a few days ago. I'm not really on Live all that much but I'm hovering around the boards a lot so like I told him it's probably easier to contact me via PM or something if a group gets going.
I could technically play drums but only really on medium. I'm generally more suited to guitar or bass though.

Looks like you picked the worst picture of Taylor Swift you could find. She's not the hottest woman in the world, but she certainly isn't an ugly [strike]fuck[/strike]duckling.
I have no idea if DJ Hero stuff goes here, but it bears the HERO name, so I guess this is a good a place as any.
I'm really really torn on it. I know Activision/Red Octane make a fuckton of thier products, so I definatley will be snagging it for $60 or whatever in 6 months when they're trying to move out hundereds of overstocked turntables - if I get it at all.
But Im still yet to see anyone really explain HOW this thing gets played. When I watch gameplay videos I see some arrows, and they FLY. Am I supposed to be scratching in that direction at that time? It seems impossible - but I guess GH1's expert mode did at some point too.
And as far as the mixes go, I am most dissapointed in the Bowie one. But Kotaku posted the Posion/Intergalactic one, and it's pretty damn great.

I didn't see any 'scratching' in the video from earlier, but it looks like you play with three fingers on the colour buttons and your other hand on some kind of effects switch. The switch/slider only looked like it's used to keep the bezel on the track when it slides out and back.
So far, the Beatmania controller is more complicated...
Here's the list of songs confirmed so far courtesy of Wikipedia.
"ABC" - Jackson 5
"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" - Queen
"Dirty Little Secret" - The All-American Rejects
"Just a Girl" - No Doubt
"Love Story" - Taylor Swift
"Picture to Burn" - Taylor Swift
"Take What You Take" - Lily Allen
"You Belong With Me" - Taylor Swift

With the exception of the Lily Allen song (that I haven't heard), I love every single one of those songs. That's excellent news.
Really wish people wouldn't write Taylor Swift off so quickly, her newest album is actually quite excellent (did quite well with critics too, I believe), but eh, different tastes.

I'm not gonna lie, I won't change the radio station if You Belong With Me comes on.
And after listening to the Lily Allen song, they are currently batting 1000 with me.
I'm not really surprised, the idea of an American pop-oriented band game is something I knew deep down that I've always wanted. This is also why I'm pretty excited for LEGO Rock Band as well (plus so far there's no overlap between the two, another plus).
I have predicted that there will be exactly zero songs on Band Hero that I'll like. I'll be sticking with GH5 because there are quite a few songs on there that I know I like.
Band Hero looks, from what precious little we've seen of it, to be a fine game in it's own right. It's just very clearly not for me.

Considering the tunes for most of those songs don't come to my head right off the bat, I'll reserve my judgment until the rest of the setlist if revealed before I decide whether or not Band Hero is for me.
In addition to the tracks below, songs from Avril Lavigne, Blink-182, KT Tunstall, Maroon 5, Snow Patrol, Fall Out Boy and The Killers will also be on the disc.
Oh God I hope it's "Girlfriend", I've been hoping for this on Rock Band for quite some time.

GH Arcade is basically GH3. Same songs, same charts.
also when I run my hand on it, it's bumpy.

I guess. Hopefully Rock Band gets it for DLC though. Ugh...Guitar Hero.

The thought of Taylor Swift as an "evil" boss really pleases me for some reason.
Does the article say which song(s) will be in Band Hero? At work, so can't click it.
No, but it perhaps speculates that "That One Taylor Swift Song" and "Oh Yeah, That one" might be in it.
"ABC" - Jackson 5
"Crazy Little Thing Called Love" - Queen
"Dirty Little Secret" - The All-American Rejects
"Just a Girl" - No Doubt
"Love Story" - Taylor Swift
"Picture to Burn" - Taylor Swift
"Take What You Take" - Lily Allen
