No Ferries in Google Maps

Is there anyway to tell Google Maps not to put ferries in your route? I am trying to map out a route from Cambridge, Ma to Montauk, New York and it has a Ferry in the middle. Problem is, Ferry's are expensive as hell.

I want to see if it's worth the Ferry $$ to save the distance driving (save gas, time, etc.,) or if I should drive down to Brooklyn, then back up LI.

I don't think there's a specific way to tell it to avoid ferries, but it's easy enough to just drag the route over to land. It's usually pretty good about molding itself to the highways once it's there.

It looks like avoiding the ferry will add an hour and 110 miles to your journey. It will also have you driving through (or at least skirting the edge of) New York City, and I don't know how bad the traffic actually is there.

Rocking, Thanks. My problem was here at work, the dynamic google maps doesn't work for some reason. Only the crappy HTML version. Thanks for checking it out for me. I'd probably just drive the whole way.

And the traffic CAN be bad around there, especially if you take the Van Wyck, but if you take the Cross Island and drive in the early morning, it's not too bad at all.

You'd probably save money by taking the ferry though?

Travel time, gas costs, etc. Wasn't sure of the cost of the ferry. I was just wondering.

I thought it'd be cheaper too. But I looked up the ferry he'd need and it looks like it's roughly $45, and I think that was only one way, so the return would be another $45. That's definitely enough that it would have me spending the extra hour driving around.

You also have to wait for the ferry, load onto the ferry, and then load off the ferry. So taking it might add a lot of travel time that's typically overlooked.

Sort of like how flying somewhere only takes a couple hours in the air, but that ignores driving to the airport, going through security, waiting, waiting, loading the plane, getting off the plane, etc. etc.
