alright, what are some of the better (best?) Diablo clones on PC and any given console + handheld.
I beat Diablo 2 on normal and nightmare years ago, and now that I've been playing Titan Quest I've remembered exactly why I love these games so much. I tried playing Titan Quest with my friend via Lan, but his laptop coukdn't play it at all. It's a good enough system, but it has an integrated video chipset that simply will not run TQ no matter what you do. So we're looking to find console alternatives or other (just as good) PC alternatives.
I have both of the Champions of Norrath games and we've exhausted those 2 to great end. I know Dark Alliance 1 and 2 are available so I'm gonna look into those as well.
there anything else that's as good and comparable for console + handheld?
yeah we exhausted that as well, but we found the skill trees to be really stupid. We enjoyed the game, but most of the skills were interchangeable between characters. Most characters had the "direct damage" spell and the "melee punch" skill. There wasn't enough difference in skills to get us excited about multiple play throughs.
yeah! Sacred 2. I was just barely reading about that, I think that'll be a game I definitely pick up when it comes out as long as it doesn't suck, but from what I've heard it's good.
Sacred
Sacred 2
Titan Quest and expansion are the best ones out there.
Fate
Dungeon Runners is a free MMO/diablo2 style game from NCsoft. have to pay like 5 bucks to where the best gear and get ads taking off.
"Fate (often written FATE) is a 2005 single-player action role-playing game originally released for the PC by WildTangent. It was runner-up for "Role Playing Game of 2005" in PC Gamer magazine."

T'is already out on PC if that's your fancy. Good game.

And the demo should still be out there if you want to try it out.

And I would definitely try it out first before buying it. Sacred has a few differences (compared to Diablo) that some people don't like. A high creature respawn rate and skill upgrades are drops are but some of the differences.
Divine Divinity - While not a clone... it has lots of hacking and slashing with a random item pool. I really enjoyed it. Huge world. Pretty for the time it was made and has nice music.
Dungeons and Dragons: Heroes (X-Box) is basically a 4-player Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance/Champions of Norrath game.
Hunter: The Reckoning and all of the sequels are Diablo-like (various consoles).
Too Human (X-Box 360) is probably the most recent console Action-RPG game of a similar vein, but it has some wonky love-it-or-hate-it controls.
For the PC, Sacred 1/2, Dungeon Siege 1/2, and Titan Quest are the best options out there. Guild Wars and Dungeon Runners are Diablo-like, but they are more MMO than the Diablo Lobby/Quest system. Hellgate: London (PC) has risen from the dead (ZOMG!), and will be free-to-play.
The PSP has Alien Syndrome (sci-fi Diablo-like... you'll love the inventory management and robot pal, but you'll hate the Co-op tying you and your friend together in a small radius) and Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony (MUCH more like Diablo than Dungeon Siege, strangely enough). Phantasy Star Portable will be out for PSP US in March (?). There are other games (Valhalla Knights), but they aren't very good.
For the DS, do not, under any circumstances, buy Dungeon Explorer. The Co-op is interesting, but doesn't let you play through the game with a partner. Instead, it's more like a Puzzle/Gauntlet game that forces you to complete the levels within a time limit. The main quest single-player is, otherwise, a typical Diablo-clone except that you have a flying potato that shoots enemies for you (woot!).
EDIT: By the way, are you looking for multiplayer or single-player games? There are quite a few Diablo-like games that are Single Player only out there like the aforementioned Divine Divinity. Also, if your friend's laptop can't run Titan Quest, it won't be able to run Sacred 2 (lack of Pixel Shader 1.0/2.0/3.0 is the likely culprit).
Divine Divinity - While not a clone... it has lots of hacking and slashing with a random item pool. I really enjoyed it. Huge world. Pretty for the time it was made and has nice music.
This! A much more open world version of Diablo with a ridiculous story (it's just genuinely funny throughout, both intentionally and unintentionally), fun combat, really fantastic music, and a stupidly awesome amount of item hunting. The only downside is the final dungeon, which will murder your eyeballs.
oh yeah about that dungeon siege game for PSP, is it good? I only avoided getting it when I had the chance because I hated the Untold Legends games and thought perhaps it would be similar. Is it at least better than those 2?

DIVINE DIVINITY GET!
Said much better than me.
Very fun.
There was also a second game, "Beyond Divinity" I believe. Never played it so I don't know much about it. Passed under the radar.

Untold Legends is crap on toast with more crap. The sequel is even worse. Terrible games.
The only ding I have against Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony is the long load times. It does a lot of things right, but the long load times seriously hurt, even with UMD caching. Ideally, you'd play it off the Memory Stick, but that requires CFW (and thus it is forbidden to discuss here). I don't like how easy the game can get if you go crazy and farm out a hojillion +damage items, but if you discipline yourself and progress through the story without equipping yourself to the gills with +damage items, it's a very enjoyable game.
dungeon siege for PSP sounds like my kind of game. Is there a way to aquire it with relative ease and fair pricing? or is it one of those "oh my god it's rare, time to sell my copy on ebay for $texas and be a dick"?

Amazon.com still has it in Stock. *shrugs* You can probably find it on Goozex, too. It's not rare, AFAIK.
For those interested in finding out what Iron Lore, developers of Titan Quest, were working on (and what a new studio from the ashes of Iron Lore are currently working on) see here.

Just in case anyone was curious about this one, I own it. Being a fan of Divine Divinity, I snapped it up on realease day. Sadly there was an annoying new game mechanic I just couldn't get past. You start the game "soul bound" to this death knight guy (I forget the reasons why). Anyways he goes everywhere with you, doing less than intelligent things. If he dies in battle (which he is prone to do) you get a game over screen, which could be quite infuriating. The game no longer was one of epic adventuring and item hunting, but one of babysitting this stupid knight. I'm not sure if you can reach a point in the game where you no longer have to deal with this guy, I didn't make it that far.
The thing about Diablo clones is that there are literally NO games like it before Diablo. So that means you get very few games of the same genre to try out. I even got bored of Titan Quest personally, but I loved Shining Soul for the GBA. Lord of the Rings GBA is also pretty cool.
Instead what I recommend is to the play similar games, like RPGs. Or another alternative is to play first person hack and slash RPGs, like Lands of Lore, Arx Fatalis, Might & Magic, Wizardry etc Explore and the more great games you'll find. The diablo-clone genre is small.
Minus a ton of depth, puzzles, and intricate turnbased strategy, too.
Edit: Oh, I've seen a lot of people say that Guild Wars is essentially an unofficial Diablo 3. I'm not sure how much I believe them; have you seen how much less clicking is done? ;-)

What's even easier in Dungeon Siege is to equip yourself with health regen+ items. By halfway through a playthrough I was regenerating faster than six enemies could attack me. One of my items had reflective damage as well. I didn't need to attack melee using enemies, ever. I could just stand there and let them kill lthemselves trying to hurt me.

On a serious note, though, I do recommend Guild Wars to any fans of Diablo. It's a very story-driven type of MMO game, but instead of overloading you with skills and places and quests, it throws in a few localized quests and then allows you to explore (or not) at your leisure.
It's also nice because you can only carry 8 skills at once when you venture out of towns, so you need to have a kind of specialization in mind before you leave.
If all else fails, though, this is a game built on being able to do it at your own pace and on your own terms. Re-specing is practically free, there are NPCs to follow you in the open world. The only downside some might have with it is the level cap.
It's true, too. Diablo started as an unashamed Rogue clone. It was even turn-based. Blizzard then suggested to Condor (the devs of Diablo before they were bought in as Blizzard North) to make it realtime after the success of Warcraft II. After some hee-ing and haw-ing, they eventually retooled as a realtime experiment, found it was pretty awesome, and there you go.
Nox sp was blah, mp was the most insane fantasy deathmatch you will ever experience.
Titan Quest is Diablo 2.5, best of the lot. No contest.
Sacred 2 is so generic and boring it makes me wanna stab myself with a pen to check if I'm still awake.
Divine Divinity was awesome, even had a touch of Ultima in it. SPIDER BOTS!
Sacred 1 is pretty sweet, lots to kill, lots to explore. Plus: Dwarf with a flamethrower.
NwN 2: SoZ is the hack & slash bastard child of the franchise. Don't try it unless you know the system.

The DS (and GBA I think) has a series of Shining Soul games that are also of the top down, action RPG.
DS and PSP have a game called Dungeon Explorer (same universe but different games).
Sacred is another clone and it and its sequel are on PC. Sacred 2 is coming to Xbox360 and PS3 in a few months.
All of the above should be multiplayer.
I also recommend the Bard's Tale; it is a fantastic game for the PS2 and Xbox but is single player only.

I've seen some argue for tossing Divine Divinity and The Witcher in, too.

Freedom Force and Freedom Force Vs. The 3rd Reich!
:P
Now where's my Freedom Force 3 dagnammit?!
Not like-Diablo in terms of loot but like-Diablo in terms of clickity action.
Someone mentioned Sacred 2, checked a few reviews & it seems to be crap.
Nox is a decent Diablo clone.
Understatement of the year right there.
Also, it looks like Hellgate: London isn't going to die. It can be amusing.

Poor little warrior
I've played it. Kind of underwhelming IMO, but it's certainly unique.

Currently playing: GW2 and TSW
No way there is no connection between that and Diablo.
Besides the ones mentioned here I've had great luck with both Crystal Chronicles games.
Closer to D1 then D2 though, and even then, no real leveling up, only equipping up.

Looks like the dev team is from Bulgaria, with one game under their belt (action rpg/strategy hybrid called Dimensity).
It was for ps2, although it may have been multiplatform.
These games were some of the most fun I've ever had sitting on a couch playing a game with my friends. I want a 3rd one goddammit.
